+Fight Club+

I loved the way this film was shot...it was unique and eye catching! I loved the way Edward Norton was portrayed, the way he narrarated the story, the dark humor in it, the many underlying messages that seemed to be a part of the movie. I would have to see it all over again just to pick up everything, because there was just so much in it.

The Fight Club is a satirical film that is dark, surreal, and fast paced.  So much occurs that you don't have time to catch everything that is happening or the real underlying messages hidden within the film...it almost feels subliminal...it reminds me of the way a lot of commercials use subliminal messages...

The main character played by Edward Norton seems to be stuck in a dead end life.  He is a compulsive shopper and becomes addicted to support groups in order to deal with his insomnia. Once he meets Tyler Durden, his whole life changes and reality seems to become darkly distorted. The two of them are brought together and that is when the Fight Club is formed.

The Fight Club is formed as a means of therapy, as another kind of support group, a place where men can release their aggressions of everyday life. It is also a place where men come to bond where they become reborn, in some sense. As the Fight Club expands into this huge underground organization, it becomes almost cult like where everyone is following the leader and there is the underlying feeling of mind control.

Basically, one of the main ideas in the film seems to be about breaking the hold that money and materialistic things have over you.  The film is anti-consumerism and anti-commercialism.  The strong message conveyed in Fight Club is that material things do not make you who you are. The main idea: Money controls you. Let go of materialism.
