Skyfire
(Robots in Disguise)
I stumbled across Tow-line/Skyfire at K-Mart, and just had to pick them up. And I tell you, I really like Skyfire. I don't think I've stopped fiddling with him since I took him out of the packet. So I thought I'd do a review. Jet mode: Skyfire is a grey, purple and black Rafale fighter. (The Rafale is a French jet, made by Dassault.) The cockpit is a transparent orange. He measures approximately 12cm in length, 8cm in wingspan, and 4cm in height with landing gear extended. Basically it is a delta wing aircraft with small canards. He is somewhat laden down with robot kibble on the underside, but with a toy this small, that is probably to be expected. The undercarriage consists of a long nosewheel which folds up into the nose, and two small wheels which fold into what become his robot legs. I actually like the look of this mode, including the colour combination. Because this is a jet, posability is limited, apart from the retracting undercarriage. Transformation: The packaging lists these two (Tow-line and Skyfire) as level 3 (Advanced) transformations. I think that means it is 1.5 each. Skyfire's transformation pretty much consists of flipping the nose down. The legs will snap down into place, and he's in robot mode. All that is required is posing. Also, his gun can split in two, and placed in hollows in his legs. Transforming to jet mode consists of flipping the nose back up, and replacing the legs. Robot Mode: Skyfire is a grey, purple, black and orange (duh) robot. He stands approximately 10cm tall. His head is mainly purple, with an orange visor, and yellow mouthpiece highlights. Also, the back of his head is orange. Skyfire suffers from the typical transforming jet syndrome, in having having the wings and fin hanging of his back. But I feel the impact is minimal. His gun is grey, and made out of two pieces, as if it had a silencer on it. The gun can be held in either hand. Posability is good. He has ariticulation in his shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. This allows for a lot of posability for a small toy. A pity his head doesn't swivel though.
Overall: To be honest, I think this is one of the favourite toys that I have right now, simply for the play value. With a nicely poseable robot mode, and simple transformation, I could fiddle with this guy for hours. Hell, I have fiddled with this guy for hours. I'd buy him just on his own, but when you put him with another toy that's similar value, the pack is a must have. He's definitely an Excellent (8/10) toy. |
