Official Transformers Collectors Convention

*Botcon* - 2003

Although the convention name has changed, I still refer to this convention as *Botcon* for all intents and purposes.  It still retains the same spirit as the original Botcon conventions and many transfans no doubt will continue to visit just as I plan to.

Got Milk?

En route to Chicago on Sunday me and Blitzwing (Kyle) spotted this milk truck just ahead and though to take this amusing picture.

The Hyatt Regency Hotel, host for Botcon 2003 this year.  It is a very remarkable building, both inside and out.  Literally among the highest-ranking hotels in America for certain and worth a visit if, of course, one can afford its lodgings.
Walking inside the dealer room was like....wow!  Glittering ceiling, wide floor space, and dealers as far as the eye can see!
Fortress Maximus stands tall, watching over the convention from his post atop a high rack.  Maximus, especially one complete with a head such as this one, is a rareity among transformer toys and as a result this guy alone is literally worth HUNDREDS of dollars if not more - so in this case a picture is worth a thousand bucks!
Dinobots on parade!  From left to right one can see Snarl, Grimlock, Sludge, Slag, and in addition the Protectorbot combiner Defensor as well as Ramjet and Starscream as further treats.
The Chaos-Bringer, Unicron, is fully unveiled with a toy that truly captures his image.  I made sure to include images of both his robotic and planet form, both of which strikingly mirror his TF: The Movie image in virtually perfect detail.
The Art Room was simply spectacular.  This particular piece, "Warworld of Pain", was done in extremely exquisite detail depicting a menacing Starscream looming over G2 Megatron and Optimus Prime.  I love the mix of organic and metallic elements with Starscream's body - truly great.

Alas, my poster I worked hard on didn't make it on time for the convention and wasn't displayed.  A shame, but it was not 3H's fault but rather our so-called reliable postal services....

A well-put-together little diorama from the G1 episode "Frenzieek" that featured Megatron creating an annoying and very dangerous little energy creature that destroyed machinery.  In this scene, Megatron is bitterly experiencing the effects of his creation's mania.
It was too cute NOT to include!  The Beast Wars Maximals rendered as cute babies!  I especially like Silverbolt the Fuzor and litle Dinobot as well.  Even Black Arachnia is featured, getting pawed by a curious little Cheetor.
This is a picture of my ILS friend, Blitzwing (Kyle), ironically, holding...Blitzwing!  Couldn't resist the irony....

He managed to find a half-decent toy of his name-sake triple-changer and posed for this picture with it.

Lord Megatron himself, David Kaye, signed an autograph for me and gave me this bizarre, but amusing pose for this picture.  The shirt he's wearing also says the one line in all fandom he's famous for: "Yess....!"
In the dealer room, the three voice actors of the convention, Gary Chalk, David Kaye, and Greg Burger (from left to right respectively) gathered to judge a voice-impersonation contest.  Some fans did amazing impersonations and even a few original voices.  The two winners of the contest got to do a script reading along with the Gary, David, and Greg.
A group picture of the ILS members at OTFCC, minus Skyfire Maximus, who I wasn't able to get a picture of (sorry man!).  From left to right it's myself, Coyotek, Chee-Toy, Perceptor2, and Blitzwing.  I'm always thrilled to get at least one group picture, although I'll admit in this picture I look a little dopier than I usually do....

Altogether, *Botcon* 2003 was nice, although I must honestly admit 2002 thrilled me more so than this year.  However 3H and Hasbro seem to be taking the fans more seriously and grander plans were unveiled for 2004, the 20th Anniversary of Transformers.  Of course, the important stuff was just being there, taking pictures, and seeing my friends one more time that I consider the best part of the convention!
