Saturday September 18
sometime in the cool of the evening, the Splashy!....Trippy!....Sonic!...Transvestimentally beautiful song "Cosmic Planet Rock" was heard over the airwaves emanating from CBC Radio2's super-groovy program "Radiosonic".The tune is speeding through space at 186,000 miles per second, zooming past our moon and shooting towards Mercury and Venus, Saturn and Jupiter, out toward other galaxies and the end of the Universe!
We are so PROUD!!

Farewell to our GLAM emissary...Bon Voyage!

LOCAL HEROES: TRANSVESTIMENTALS

The Goods:
Gothic-tinged,campy glam complete with some
cross-dressing members(and former members) of Coal,No Fun and cub.

Roots:
Formed two years ago by mustache-adorned Bernie Morocco
(aka Valeria Fellini, former drummer with cub and Black Markert Babies[Black Halos]).
" We give at least half of all earnings to charities-I formed the band for that reason."

Partners in crime:
Other members are Darwin Bludgeon(bass),
Miss Betta Behave(aka Nicole Steen on swamp guitar)
and stun-guitarist Polly Dolly(aka No Fun's Paul Leahy).

Perspective:
"We all cross-dress at random,a different sex each time we play," explains Morocco.
"It's everything and anything goes, until it doesn't matter anymore."

Performance:
Amazing is Dolly's ability to perform rock star kicks
while wearing stove-pipe jeans and heels more suitable for the business side of Richards Street.
Dolly's ace guitar riffs propel Morocco's minimalist-style drumming and Behave's rockin' pipes.

Sample song titles:
Drag City,Cosmic Planet Rock,Meat Boy
and Donovan's catchy Season of the Witch.

Roots,Part II:
"The first song we jammed on was Roxy Roller,to set the tone,"says Morocco,
"but we haven't played it for ages."

Discography:
The band's self-titled demo tape features 13 songs,
including signature track The Incidental Transvestimental Song.

Gigging:
Transvestimentals play a double bill with
fellow gender-bending punkers New Electric Riot,
Friday Aug. 6 at the Railway Club,579 Dunsmuir.

Transvestimentals

Delicious glam rock at its best. Why did they not play at Sleazefest this year?!
This 13-song cassette has won my heart in the most embarrassing ways.
Kind of like what Southern Culture on the Skids would be if they
all dressed as goth chicks and played glam rock.So good.
The female vocalist/guitarist is named Miss Betty Behave. Need I say more?

You can't lose with excellent garage rock songs like "Trashed by Love," "Cosmic Planet Rock" and "According to Feinstein."
They even do a cover of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" that'll put a whole new face on Donovan songs.

I want them to put out a CD...and FAST!
