So what've I done recently? Relaxing couple of days: after going clubbing on Friday till about 6, headed with Bobby (same Balinese chap - despite the name - who's elected himself my tourguide while he's on vacation from college) to watch sunup with a coachload of Javanese tourists. I offered to take photos for them, but they decided they wanted pictures of me with them instead, so I have some immortality in 500 holiday snaps on Java.
Went swimming later on Kuta - the beach is better for surfing, I think: massive waves & strong undertow don't make for the most relaxing swim. Later went with Bobby to Tanah Lot - a little village on the coast, with a tiny peninsular rocky island-cum-temple: pagan dogs like myself not allowed in, of course, but a beautiful sight. I did nip into a tiny cave to touch the holy snake to get good luck - something black and white striped, python of some sort, about 4 inches thick, since it was curled up in an alcove you couln't tell how long it was. Still not sure why it's holy - apparently because it's been there a long time? Just shows what can happen if you don't keep moving: lots of irritating tourists prodding you while you try to sleep.
Nothing planned for today: might go surfing in a while - it's the first time I've been up for a full day (woke at 4am, to be exact. The all-night clubbing thing really isn't helping me to get in synch with the country.) Or there are a lot of trips to do white water rafting which looks like fun. Decisions...
