Just Japan

Japan flag
This page offers links to living and working in Japan. It was originally designed as a tool for those applying for the JET program, but can be used by anyone interested in teaching, living, travelling or working in this group of islands

THE BLURB
From reading tales from former teachers in Japan, the schools seem to be split into two camps. Firstly, there is the JET program where the ALTs work fewer hours than they expected, recieve excellent pay and perks, but have to deal with the frustration/blessing of having little more to do than agree with the Japanese teachers they are with. Of course, the conditions vary from school to school but many seem to feel that they are a bit of a decoration and don't get a chance to use their hard-earned TEFL skills. All the same, none complain when they get the fat paycheck and gifts from their employers.
Then there are the other English teaching companies who again offer very good conditions. However, working for a large corporation, you will be expected to put in the hard graft, so although you do not require a certificate, you will find yourself giving more than the JET ALTs.
Either option is a good one though to replenish exhausted funds, but remember that you can spend more than you earn in Japan, so do consider trying one of the more rural places rather than Tokyo or Osaka. You will have a fantastic range of options from one of the sub-tropical locations to the ski slopes of the North of Japan. Whatever you decide to go for, do your research and most importantly...enjoy!
