Freedom of Speech guarantees the right to communicate information and ideas. It protects all forms of communication: speeches, books, art, newspaper, television, radio, and other media. The Constitution protects not only the person making the communication but also the person receiving it. Therefore, the First Amendment includes a right to hear, see, read, and in general be exposed to different points of view.

Freedom of Speech is one of the most important things citizens care about. It gives you freedom to speek what you are thinking, except if its a threat of coarse. Also the essential, core purpose of the First Amendment is self-governance:enabling people to obtain information from a diversity or sources, make decisions, and communicate these decesions to the government. In this sense, the First Amendment is the heart of open, democratic society.

Remember that the First Amendment was designed to ensure a free marketplace of ideas; even unpopular ideas. Freedom of Speech protects every one, even people who criticize the government or express unconventional views. In some instances, the First Amendment even provides people with a right not to speak and not to associate with otheers who propose a different message.
