Populous: The People

This is what I like to call the "People Menu." It shows you what people you have, what they are doing, and gives you the ability to select people based on these criteria.
From left to right it shows the different types of people:
- Total people
- Braves
- Warriors
- Fire Warriors
- Preachers
- Spies
From top to bottom it shows what they are doing:
- Number of people currently selected
- Idle people (I call them lazy people)
- People in huts
- Working people
Above the people there is a picture of your Shaman. It shows you which direction she is facing and what she is doing. To go to the Shaman, you simply need to right click on the picture of her.
To the left of the shaman is a blue button. This button controls who is displayed in the "People Menu". Its default is to show all of your people on the world, but if you click on it, it will only show the people currently visible on the screen. Simply click on it again to go back to showing all of your people.
To the right of the Shaman are the buttons of the other tribes. When one of these buttons is flashing, it tells you that that tribe is attacking you. Also, these buttons are used for making your spies turn their color. The names of the other tribes are:
- Red= Dakini
- Yellow= Chumara
- Green= Matak
You are the Blue tribe throughout the entire game. The only way to be one of the other tribes is to play online. Or you can download a hex editor and change the colors, but this is complicated and I wouldn't suggest it.
Now I'll give you a more in depth explanation of each type of person you can have in your tribe. Each different person has different abilities to give you a diverse population of skilled warriors. The people that you can have in your tribe are:(click on the person to view their traits)

Shaman

The Shaman is easily the most important person in the game, she is the head of the tribe. She is the only person in the tribe that can cast spells. When the Shaman is killed, she is reincarnated in the reincarnation site (hence the name). She can also enter huts and ride in boats and balloons. When worst comes to worst, she can also fight in hand to hand combat.
- Standing
- Walking
- Casting a spell
- Fighting

Braves

Braves are the "meat and potatoes" of the tribe. Braves are born in huts. They are the people that build huts, cut down trees, build vehicles, and go into training huts to become specialized warriors. They can also ride in balloons and boats, and enter huts to create more mana. The only thing they are poor at is fighting, the only person they will beat in a fight is a spy. Without braves though, your tribe would be lost, that is why it is never a good idea to change all of your braves into warriors. If your base is destroyed, there is always hope as long as you have one brave left; you can always rebuild.
- Jumping
- Picking his bum
- Working
- Praying
- Getting hit
- Carrying wood

Warriors

Warriors exist for the sole purpose of hand to hand combat. Warriors are created by sending someone into a warrior training hut. They have a sword and a shield and beat any other person in a fight; with the exception of a preacher. Preachers will convert them into their people. Also, they would beat fire warriors in a fight, but fire warriors will be shooting the warriors as they run up to them, so the warriors will be mostly, if not all the way, dead before they can reach the fire warrior. They can also ride in boats and balloons, and can enter huts. They can be changed into other types of warriors by entering a type of training hut other than a warrior training hut. All of the types of people have this ability to change into a different type of specialized warrior.
- Fighting
- Cheering
- Praying
- Sitting to listen to a Preacher
- Rolling
- Running from a swarm
- Pushing someone

Fire Warriors

Fire warriors are created by sending someone into a fire warrior training hut. Fire warriors are people that work extremely well at keeping the high ground or working from a guard tower or vehicle. The reason is they shoot fire from their hands. They have the ability to kill the enemy before the enemy even reaches them. In hand to hand combat they are poor though. Also, preachers can run up to them and convert them if the fire warrior hasn't completely killed the preacher yet. So it is a wise idea to to have a big group of fire warriors, or a preacher near the fire warrior to fight the enemy preachers.
- Jumping (cheering)
- Flying through the air
- Shooting someone
- Praying
- Punching

Preachers

Preachers are created by sending someone into a temple. Preachers are good people to have because they can convert the enemy's people into your own, permanently (unlike the hypnotise spell, which is only temporary). Obviously they can't convert other preachers or the shaman, but everyone else is fair game. Their preaching range increases as they are higher above ground. Therefore it is good to put them in guard towers because it increases thier range. If you don't have any preachers and the enemy attacks with them, you have a hard time fighting them off unless you have a lot of fire warriors that can hit them at long range, or if you just use the shaman to fend them off with spells. It's not a wise idea to not have any preachers.
- Preaching
- Punching
- Preaching, a little differently
- Flying through the air
- Praying

Spies

Spies are created by sending someone into a spy training hut. Spies are sneaky little characters. You can change your spies to the color of the enemy by having the spy selected and right clicking on the enemy's color button. You can then send your spies into their village and have them burn down their buildings. Your spies can be spotted by other spies, or if thier shaman realizes that they aren't one of thier people. If you are being attacked by a spy, just right click on him and he will turn his original color and your people will attack it.
- Running from a swarm
- Setting fire to a building
- Juggling, (I have never seen this)
- Flying through the air

Wildmen
Wildmen are the least complicated people on the entire game. They aren't a part of your tribe and they aren't a part of an enemy tribe. They are just neutral people that are...well...wild. All they do is eat and drink and run around. You can convert them into your people by using the, you guessed it, convert spell. This permanently changes them into braves for your tribe. WOOHOO! FREE PEOPLE!
