Tree Attack

On Saturday March 9th 2002, the month started out as a lion.  The lion came in the form of a 70 foot oak tree that broke off and land on our new garage and house.

This was our chimney.  Our gas grill is in there too.

Our  new garage is toast!!!

Here is the other side of the garage.

How both of our cars survived, I'll never know...

Well after all is said and done, Nationwide Insurance paid out $33,851.40 for damages caused by the tree.  It's a good thing this doesn't happen every day, because home owner's insurance would cost a whole lot more.

Half of the money went to the garage, and half went to the house.  The garage was already new so that was a wash.  The money put into the house was nice.  We did have to downgrade from aluminum to vinyl siding, but now the garage and the house match.  The new shingles on roof were completely paid for.  We put $9,000 into the addition part, so that's a nice $24,000 in new labor & materials on the house.
