The Carnivore
Here is their 'official' website for Carnivore.
The truth is not that they want to crack down on child pornography. They don't want to stop hackers. There will always be someone one up higher in that respect to the government. The FBI isn't neccesarily into the 'safety' of this 'great nation'- they want to stop billions of pages and emails of FREE SPEECH. That is, a revolution could easily be plotted via email. That is the kind of thing that our government, which the FBI is an arm of, fears the most. Keeping you in fear is the reason for the Carnivore.

The old Miriad website, before M2000 had a link to the FBI's Carnivore website. Now, when seen in tandem with products like Digital Angel, Carnivore is just the latest weapon to invade privacy. The FBI's site on Carnivore was something that the Traveller came across almost accidentally. It was immediately posted on the old site. But now it is time that it got some coverage here.
The Carnivore system monitors traffic at the facilities of
Internet service providers (ISPs) in order to intercept
information contained in the electronic mail of criminal
suspects. Carnivore can reportedly scan millions of e-mails each
second and is capable of providing law enforcement agents the
ability to intercept all of an ISP's customers' digital
communications. Serious questions have been raised in Congress,
in the media and in the privacy community concerning the
legality of Carnivore and its potential for abuse.
The system, kind of like the Digital Angel, can be turned on remotely whenever the FBI want to. You don't need to become a suspect or something. You could be considered a criminal just because they say so... so they could read your mail.
. The use of computers and the Internet is growing rapidly, paralleled by exploitation of computers, networks, and data bases to commit crimes and to harm the safety, security, and privacy of others. Criminals use computers to send child pornography to each other using anonymous, encrypted communications; hackers break into financial service companies systems and steal customer home addresses and credit card information; criminals use the Internet's inexpensive and easy communications to commit large scale fraud on victims all over the world; and terrorist bombers plan their strikes using the Internet. Investigating and deterring such wrongdoing requires tools and techniques designed to work with new evolving computers and network technologies. The systems employed must strike a reasonable balance between competing interests- the privacy interests of telecommunications users, the business interest of service providers, and the duty of government investigators to protect public safety.
But what he really means is :
We Are Big Brother.
At least, if you read between the lines, that's what he's saying. And to think that such a plan could work. Oh, but now curfew laws are secretly being put into place all over the place, to allow police to bash people over the head for congregating - even CNN reporters. Ooops, did we do that? they'll say. Well, we had to use force to repel the Truth!
WE WILL read your mail if we think you could possibly free yourself from the trap we have sprung for your hearts and minds. These terrorists and pornographers are a simple excuse for our ultimate control. We will use technology like Digital Angel to detain millions in our FEMA camps. Ha ha haha!
