My Corvette came with a L-82 engine from the factory.
It would seem that all of the motors which came in Corvettes in the late
70’s lacked one very important thing: POWER! When I took position
of Samantha in August of 2002 it had already had some work done to it.
These modifications included a rebuilt bored over .40 350 4 bolt main engine.
However, whoever did this work did not take their time and it had some flaws,
the most obvious of which was under sprung valves. Because of this
she dropped a valve and I had to rebuild the motor again. This was
a blessing in disguise because I was able to rebuild it the way I wanted.
Roller tipped rockers, performance cam, preformer intake, PROPER VALVE SPRINGS,
upgraded pistons, ported heads and much more.

All of these things combined with a Holley Street
Avenger 770cfm carb proved to be a large shot of power to the car.
However, this caused another problem… the sudden shot of exhaust caused pieces
to break off inside the catalytic converter and clogged the old 70’s style
piece. It took 3 days to realize this was the problem. But due
to Colorado laws, I was able to break the inside of it out and never emissions
test again. Another power additive!

Although all this stuff is great, it is still a carbureted
system. I am hoping in the near future to be able to install a fuel
injection system to add some desperately needed reliability and fuel economy.
Also along these lines I’m looking into putting a Richmond 6 Speed tranny
into her for added performance and fuel economy.
