Some of you know the reason we got our puppy Kasey was because she had a heart defect and her owner was unable to keep her.  On Jan. 5, 2001 we had a duct in her heart closed up, without this surgery she wouldn't have lived much over a year old. It was doing permanent damage to her heart and she had a very bad "washing machine" heart murmer. Since the operation she is 100% cured and very active.
Kasey the night we brought her home, she was knocked out pretty well.
Kasey the first night we brought her home. She was in so much pain when she woke up at night. She would try to move and then scream in pain. It was horrible. I slept on the floor with her for 3 nights, so she wasn't alone and we didn't want her on anything high like a bed in case she fell off.  The first night was truly terrible, but by the second night she was amazingly better. By the third day she was up and walking around a bit. By the end of the week she was running around and if her hair wasn't shaved you would never know she had just had major surgery.
Kasey on the third day after heart surgery. He cath. is out and she is feeling much better.  We tend to forget how tiny she is (she is now 4 lbs and 9 months old 3/14/01), but the bowl you see here is a normal sized cereal bowl.
Kasey and Vallie rarely play together, but we did capture them playing tug-of-war one day with a sock. Sometimes they play on the bed by barking at each other when Kasey jumps on Vallie (which I'm sure our neighbor loves). This is about one month after Kasey's surgery.
We really have four great animals. They all love each other (or tolerate each other, depends on the day) and they are all loving and kind hearted.  Lola (our Siamese) and Kasey chase each other all around the house and Kasey tries to play with everyone, but the older animals can't handle too much of her puppy excitement. Both dogs love to cuddle up and sit with you or sleep on the bed at night.
