BOOKS
ON THE LOST RHOADS MINE
AND SYMBOLS
There have been a lot of books written on the subject
of the lost Rhoads mines, spanish symbols, waybills
and rock monuments and their meanings. But as much as
I enjoy reading these books, I personally do not go
out looking for the sites that the books talk about
unless I have personal knowledge of the area and the
treasure that they are talking about. I have found
enough spanish treasure sites that are not known
about to keep me busy for the rest of my life.
That said, it doesn't mean that I don't like nor
enjoy reading these books. I'm the first one in line
to buy them when they come out and I can't put them
down until I am done reading them.
Here is a list of them. I do recommend reading them.
If you are looking to buy some of them and can't find
them, e-mail me and I will see what I can do.
THE GOLD OF CARRE-SHINOB
By: Kerry Ross Boren
This is the newest and latest book out there dealing
with the lost Rhoads mine. Kerry is an historian and
can back up most of his claims with facts. There is
some never before heard stories and some interesting
twists to some of the old stories. Kerry claims to
have received some journals and maps that told him
how to find Carre-Shinob. With this information he
gained access into the Indian sacred mine and tells
the reader what he saw.
LOST GOLD OF THE UINTAH
THE REST OF THE STORY
BY: GALE R RHOADS
This is the last book that Gale wrote about the lost
Rhoads mine before he died of a heart attack. He
never had the opportunity to see it published because
he passed away before its publication. Lucky for us
the reader, he already had most of his manuscript
into his publisher or this book might never have been
written.
While he was lying up on the mountian dying, someone
rifled through his truck and later broke into his
apartment and stole all his notes and research. They
never got it all though, rumor has it that he left
his important notes with someone in Arizona. Maybe
some day it will turn up. This book has over 100 maps
and interesting stories to go along with them. There
are some stories and maps that are in this book that
I wish were not there because they are the stories
and maps to some first hand account leads I was
working on, but oh well.
FADED FOOTPRINTS
THE LOST RHOADS MINE
and Other Hidden Treasures of the Uintahs
BY: George A. Thompson
George wrote quite a few books on treasure hunting,
the Spaniards and the lost Rhoads mines. This is his
last book before he passed away from an automobile
accident. It has a lot of good stories and pictues in
it and is excellent reading. The other books that
George wrote and are interesting reading, but might
be hard to come by are as follows:
Some Dreams Die
(Utah's Ghost Towns and LostTreasures)
Lost Treasures on the old Spanish Trail
Faded Footprints the Lost Rhoads Mines
(and other hidden treasures of Utah's killer mountains)
Throw down the Box
(Treasure tales from the Gilmer &
Salisbury the western Stagecoach King)
Treasure Mountain Home
(Park City revisited)
#1-Treasure Signs, Symbols, Shadows & Sun Signs
#2-Spanish Monuments & Trailmarkers to Treasure
#3-Death Traps to Treasure
#4-Treasure Secrets of the Lost Dutchman
#5-Unfound Treasures of Mexico
These 5 books were all written
By: Charles A. Kenworthy
In 1974 Charles (Chuck) Kenworthy began going through
the archives in France, Spain, the Vatican and Mexico
City. In 1983 he ran across a 116 page letter
relating to the king of Spain's rules and regulations
on mining and exploring in the new world. Included
were 34 pages of coded signs and symbols to be used
in documents and on maps and there meanings. Also
included were drawings of trail markers that Spain
required to be constructed along all treasure and
mine trails. These 5 books are the result of those
documents. If the Spanish symbols you are tracking
down were part of a legal expedition, then you need
these books. The book on monuments alone has opened
up a whole new world of treasure hunting for me. Even
though books #4 and #5 are about the Lost Dutchman
mine and about treasure hunting in Mexico and don't
deal with Utah, they do have a few insights on how to
read symbols and monuments. I suggest any Spanish
treasure hunter ought to have all of these books in
his library. Chuck has passed on now so I don't know
how much longer these books will be in print.
DE RE METALLICA
This book was first published in 1556 and was
translated into English in 1950 by Herbert Hoover
(where have you heard that name before) this book was
the Spanish bible when it came to mining. It covers
everything that has to deal with mining. From tricks
on what to look for when you are out prospecting and
looking for that vein of gold to how to take care of
your slave miners. This book is tough reading but it
has some very good information in it. It's amazing
the technology the Spaniards had way back then. If
you want to know what the Spaniards were thinking
when it came to searching and mining for gold, then
this book is a must.
