HISTORY
The USS CALYPSO-B
was built at Earth Station McKinley (an ancillary construction yard.) After
passing final inspection from Branch Admiral Marcus Zimmerman, she was
commissioned on SD???? by Fleet Admiral Jack Sullivan. After a forty day 'trial
run' with a skeleton crew the CALYSO arrived at DS3 to receive their first
orders and pick up the remaining crew of the the USS Calypso NCC-5276, Diogenes
Class at the present under repair. Under orders by Admiral William Jackson the
CALYSO-B left DS3 under the command of Captain Brant Reed.

~ Intrepid Idea Tidbits ~
* Most commonly known is it has the the ability to land on the surface of a planet. The structural strain of landing the ship is absorbed by the structural integrity system, and the ground hover footpad system. This is a set of four stabilization pads that allow the ship to hover over the ground; they gently cushion the landing without damaging the hull.
* Built to carry enough fuel (antimatter and deuterium) for three years of continious use, it utilizes an antimatter generator, but the small quantum charge reversal device cannont provide enough antimatter for a long mission.
* Direct beaming to another location (Sickbay, for example) consumes nearly twice the powerand is only used in emergencies.
* The power used in the Holodeck is incompatible with that required for ship's other operations; therefore, the Holodeck can be used for training or recreation as needed without regard to the energy used.
* The Intrepid-class ships are not designed for families and the replicators are not the most reliable.
* With advanced technology the Intepid-class was designed for tactical missions and is highly maneuverable
* Warp Engines raise when going to warp because in that formation, there is no damage done to subspace
* The gel packs are susceptable to biological viruses and "infections" which can cause equipment failure until the packs are replaced
* The primary unit of measure in known space is the SECTOR. Each sector is about 20-light years across and typically contains a half-dozen solar systems. A starship traveling at Warp Six takes about 19 days to cross a sector. At maximum warp (9.9) it takes about 4 days.
* The quantum torpedo is the first Starfleet follow-on weapon to replace the standard photon torpedo first developed in 2268, and deployed throughout the fleet in 2371.(Voyager missed this upgrade) The secret power of the quantum torpedo, however, lies not in the torpedo itself, but instead its ability to unlock finite amounts of energy from the zero point of the space in it's surrounding area. It is this new feature of quantum torpedo design that allows these explosives easily surpass the destructive output of their total conversion predecessors.
* Quantum torepedos are often launched by electromagnetic or gravity railguns and are small enough to be relatively difficult to target by even FTL computer tracking systems
