Mount Ophir ( Gunung Ledang ) Trek - Sagil Trail
Gunung Ledang ( or Mount Ophir as it is otherwise better
known ) is the most visited mountain in Malaysia. The legendary beauty
of Mount Ophir has made it one of Johor's most popular attractions for
hikers and birdwatchers. The mountain offers several nature trails to
its summit, some lovely waterfalls, and modern facilities for camping
and picnicking near its base.
Trek members need to be very
fit as we shall attempt the summit & descend down
to base camp in 1 single day. Be prepared for up to 12 hours of trekking
for this summit attempt in a single day.
Our camp will be at Elephant Pool campsite which is one-third up the
mountain ( 550-m ) on the Sagil Trail. Nearby is where you'll find the
most beautiful part of the entire Ophir waterfalls - Twin Falls. Higher
up are just trails and challenging terrain for the summit prospects
( Ophir is a favourite training ground for those with higher summit
aspirations in the higher ranges ).
You do not need to take leave for this outing. The
trip arrangement is a comfortable one: by chartered vehicle to bring
you all the way right to the foot of the mountain. For big groups, we
will engage the local ranger/mountain guide for additional safety.
Altho no technical skills are required, trekking Mount
Ophir is nevertheless a physically demanding challenge. The exertion
will be rewarded with the fun times spent at the nice waterfalls, possibly
a chance encounter with the local wildlife, and standing atop its summit.
Summit Trails: Mount Ophir can be
climbed from either the Malacca or Johor side. From Malacca,
the trail starts at the Asahan
village near the reservoir and this is more straight forward and easier
compared to the Johor side. The trail from Johor starts near Sagil village
beside a cascade of waterfall within the grounds of Gunung Ledang Resort.
Arrangement Includes: Trek leaders,
private charter transport, group camping gear, all meals except one
breakfast.
