Langtang Trekking in Nepal This is a combination of three beautiful treks taking us straight into some of the wildest and most picturesque areas of Nepal. Starting from the lovely hill town of Syabrubensi our trek winds through beautiful rhododendron and conifer forests through the Lang tang National Park on the way to the higher slopes. Our route then leads up to the high alpine yak pastures, glaciers and moraines around Kyangin. Along this route you will have an opportunity to cross the Ganja La Pass if possible (subject to weather conditions) from Lang tang Valley. The trail enters the rhododendron forest and climbs up to alpine yak pastures at Ngegang(4404 m). From Ngegang we make an assent of Ganja La Pass (5122m). This area is sometimes called Kelaung or Kelchung and can be reached from another series of huts at Dukpu (4023m). Next we head southwest, descending past Gekye Gompa to reach Tarke Ghyang. Otherwise we take a detour and another special features of this trek is trekking past the sacred Hindu lakes of Gosainkund (4380 m) crossing into Helambu via the Laurebina Pass (4610 m) to Ghopte (3430 m) and further to Trake Gyang. Along this route you will have an opportunity to experience the whole range of Himalayan topography as the trailheads south through a lush green valley before turning to Kathmandu. (1) Gosaikunda Trek (Teahouse and camping)(2) Helambu Trek (Teahouse and camping) (3) Langtang trek (Teahouse and camping) (4) Lang tang, Gosainkund and Helambu trek Gosaikunda Trek: For many hundred's of years pilgrims worldwide have trekked to this region to pay religious respect at many of the 100 glacial fed lakes of Lord Shiva and other Deities. The lakes are situated at about 4400m. It is said that Lord Shiva, after drinking the poisons of the world, drove this three pronged fork into the earth to drink pure water to quench his thirst. Helambu Trek: The Sherpa villages of Helambu due north of Kathmandu valley presents an easy getaway. This area because of its low elevation and the Sherpa villages make it an interesting 6 day loop. Starting with a short drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal the trail to Helambu climbs on to the Shivapuri ridge from where there are sweeping views of the central Himalayas. Following a ridgline the trek heads north to Thare Pati before turning east toMelemchi Gaon and Tarke Gyang the principle villages of this area. From here we visit Shermathang before descending to the Melamchi river to end our trek with a drive Melamchi Bazaar back to Kathmandu.Moderate trekking between altitudes of 1,370m/4,500ft to 3,490m/11,500ft.Accommodation in comfortable lodges run by local families. The trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu and includes all meals, services of experienced trek guide and porters to carry luggage. Clients carry a day-pack only and walk at their own pace. Langtang Trek: Called the valley of glaciers. Here mountains rise soaring towards the sky Grade 4 maximum altitude 5486mDeparts daily from October to May for 2 persons. The Langtang valley is aptly called the valley of glaciers. Here mountains rise soaring towards the sky. The valley offers pine forest, swift mountain streams, rugged rock and snow-capped peaks, grassy downs and meadows strewn with daisies and wild primulas. In the upper part of the valley there are snow ridges spanning angry torrents, high passes enveloped in mist, tiny lakes of crystalline brightness and glaciated mountain giants. This region is one of the most attractive Himalayan destinations in terms of scenic beauty and easy accessibility from Kathmandu. We commence our trek from Dhunche, on the well defined trail to Langtang valley. The view of the Langtang Himal crowned by Langtang Lirung (7545m) is rewarding. Trek highlights are Kyanjin Gompa, Yala Peak and Gosainkund lake. Lang tang, Gosainkund and Helambu trek: Look at above the information of Langtang sector.Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) Also known as Altitude Sickness, AMS is the effect of altitude on those who ascend too rapidly to elevations above 3,600m. Early symptoms include headache, loss of appetite, lethargy, and sleeplessness. Do not ignore these warnings as serious symptoms can cause death within a few hours. Being young, strong and fit does not help. Medicine is no substitute for descent. If a doctor is available, he may give medicine and oxygen. The patient must go down, however, even if given treatment. If you are traveling in Khumbu region and Manang, you can contact Khunde, Pheriche & Manag respectively for altitude sickness information.Hospitals are there with good doctors. To avoid altitude sickness you should walk slowly. If you feel exhausted, you have moved too fast or too high. Take time to acclimatize to each gaining altitude and give yourself rest days. If you start to feel unwell, retreat to a lower altitude immediately. It may save your life. The only cure for AMS is to descend immediately to a lower elevation.
