The Tulloch trailer carriages entered service during 1964 and 1965. As the 120 carriages were built, the small air vents on the side were moved inwards. This was probably done to improve the airflow within the carriages.

The Tulloch trailers that still remain in service are due to be withdrawn after the new
Millennium trains enter service in 2001.

T4801 has been preserved by State Rail. It was restored by Historic Electric Traction during late 1999. It ran on a number of tours as part of set W3.
