My grandmother on Mom's side was Muriel (Smith) Hager. Her husband was Thurman (Buddy)Hager. She was the daughter of Albert and Violet (Shope) Smith.
Our Smith family was said to have arrived in Scioto county, Ohio by traveling down the Ohio River from Pennsylvania on a cattleboat.
On the following pages I'll have more information on the Smiths and other members of the family.
Muriel Pauline (Smith) Hager
Albert and Violet (Shope)Smith
George W. Smith- It's said that George Smith was a passenger on a cattleboat from Pennsylvania. We don't know if he came alone or with his folks. I found him and his wife Hanna Culp in the 1850 Madison Twp. Scioto County Census with their two male children, Jefferson,
aged four, and Alexander, aged two. George was 31 years old, Hanna was 3?. In the 1860 Census of the same township Hanna was head of the household with Jefferson, Alexander, Madison, Emiline, Leander and Matilda listed as her children.
Alexander was the father to Charles Smith, Charles was the father to Albert Smith and Albert was the father to my grandmother, Muriel Pauline Smith.
