THE HISTORY OF
The 1st "Grey Ghost"Division
III Corps
ANV
  Commanded by
Major General Trev Bramley

DATE EVENT
3 NOV 99 Entered Vicksburg Military Academy
4 DEC 99  Left Vicksburg Military Academy and joined the Army of North Virginia. Promoted to Field Lt. and took command of the 6th (Grey Ghost) Brigade, Black Labrador Cav Div, III Corps.
15 DEC 99  Entered into a training battle, Bull Run - Brawner's Farm, S1764, with Colonel Dave Goode, Cmdr Black Labrador Cavalry Division, III Corps, ANV
August 28, 1862 7 Turns ------------------[ Historical ]----------------- 6:00pm: After destroying several locomotives at Bristoe Station and merrily ransacking the Union supply depot at Manassas Junction, Jackson and his detached corps headed north toward the old Bull Run battlefield. Meanwhile John Pope, the Union commander, received false information that Jackson's men marched toward Centreville. Hoping to "bag" an isolated Jackson before he can escape, Pope orders his dispersed army to converge on Centreville. Simularly, "Stonewall" Jackson is hoping to engage some or all of John Pope's dispersed Federal army in a decisive battle before McClellan's sizable command, enroute from the Virginia penninsula, arrives in full. A fine opportunity is finally presented to Jackson shortly before dusk when King's division comes marching down the Warrenton Turnpike headed toward Centreville, totally unaware of the Rebels lurking on the wooded ridge to their left. Several shots from a Confederate battery quickly disorders the unsuspecting Federal column, throwing several regiments of Patrick's inexperienced brigade into disarray. To further compound the Yankee's problems, Rufus King, the division commander, cannot be found by any of his brigade commanders; unknown to them, he has been incapacitated by an epileptic seizure. The Second Battle of Bull Run is about to begin!
17 DEC 99  Entered into a training battle, Gettysburg - First Contact, S1768, with my brother Field Lt. Vaughan "The English Gent" Bramley, 5th (The Swamp Rats) Brigade, Black Labrador Cav Div, III Corps, Army of Northern Virginia.
July 1st, 1863 9:00am 7 Turns As the brigades of Archer and Davis, the leading elements of Heth's Division, advanced toward Gettysburg they encountered the screening force of Brig. Gen. Buford's Cavalry Division. For almost an hour they skirmished along Herr's Ridge in the drizzling rain. Outnumbered, Buford eventually pulled Brig. Gen. Gamble's troopers back to McPherson's Ridge and ordered Colonel Devin to cover his right. The question now became: could they hold this position until reinforcements arrived?
23 DEC 99  The training battle, S1764, with Colonel Dave Goode ended in a Major Victory and I was promoted to 1st Lt.
10 JAN 00  The training battle, S1768, with my brother Field Lt. Vaughan "The English Gent" Bramley ended and I gained another close Major Victory.
23 JAN 00  Entered into another training battle, Antietam - Custom scenario, S1990  with my brother, now Captain Vaughan "The English Gent" Bramley.
27 JAN 00  Entered into my first battle against the Union, Bull Run - Second Bull Run,  S2014, against Major General Brad Young, Cmdr XX Corps, Army of the Cumberland.
August 29-30, 1862 78 Turns ------------------[ Historical ]----------------- 9:40am: This full, 2-day campaign begins after Sigel's I Corps divisions have spent the first few hours of the day maneuvering closer to the Confederates. Prodded by Pope to attack at sunup, Sigel has dispersed his units over a wide arc so as to better develop then enemy's line, hopefully uncovering some weak spots or an "open" flank. Reynolds' division of Pennsylvania Reserves has arrived, and other reinforcements are hurrying toward Groveton as Pope still has high hopes of crushing Jackson before he can get away.
29 JAN 00  Started a battle, Chickamauga - Battle of Murfresboro, S2068, against 1st Lt. Mike Potts, 2nd "Snake" Brigade, III Div, XXIV Corps, Army of the James.
Dec 31, 1862 - Jan 2, 1863 135 Turns --------------------[ Historical ]--------------------- 6:00am: This is the historical full-battle scenario. Most Confederate units start "fixed" (and feature variable and staggered releases) to better reflect the uncoordinated initial Rebel assault. All units start in historical positions, with historical reinforcements entering with historical probabilities. Many Federal units start "fixed" and disordered to reflect unexpected Confederate attack. Union "fixed" units are released at variable rates.
29 JAN 00  My brother and I joined forces and started a battle, Bull Run - Look Out for Your Left, S2069A, against 1st Lt. Mike Potts, 2nd "Snake" Brigade, III Div, XXIV Corps, Army of the James.
July 21, 1861 40 Turns ------------------[ What If ]---------------- 7:00am: McDowell's plans for the morning of July 21 were plagued by delays from the very start. Hunter and Heintzelman's divisions were forced to wait as Tyler's division crawled westward along the Warrenton Turnpike. Once clear of Tyler's division, the flanking column faced further delays when the guide leading the column sent them on an alternate route rather than risk detection by the enemy. This scenario supposes that McDowell allowed Hunter and Heintzelman to march before Tyler, and although the flanking column still takes the alternate route, their chance of an earlier arrival at Sudley Ford are better. Meanwhile, the Creole has a plan of his own for the Federal left. The catch for both sides are random entry and release times.
12 FEB 00  Promoted to Captain, drinks all round in the Mess.
15 FEB 00  The Tennessee River Campaign has started and I have volunteered my brigade for the honour of the Confederacy.
16 FEB 00  My brigade has entered into the Tennessee River Campaign and will fight two battles, the first will be Bull Run - T2K#27, against 1st Lt. Lee Gast, 3rd Green Mountain Brigade, 2nd Div "Kings Own", XIV Corps, Army of the Cumberland and the second Antietam - T2K#108 against 1st Lt. W. Glanker, 2nd "Boston Backbay Blues" Brigade, 1st "Orange Blossoms" Div, XXV Corps, Army of the James.
8 APR 00  My battle, S2068, with 1st Lt. Mike Potts, ended in a draw. We attacked all out and gained lots of victories but as the battle went on, more and more Union reinforcements kept arriving and by the second day my men were exhausted. We had no alternative but to fight a delaying action while the army left the field. It was a lucky day for us.
9 APR 00  1st Lt. Mike Potts was promoted to a Major and was out for revenge, he challenged me to another battle, Antietam - Battle of Antietam, S2348.
September 17, 1862 45 Turns ------------------[ Historical ]----------------- 5am: Early on the morning of 17 September, 1862, Joseph Hooker's I Corps of the Army of the Potomac stepped off through the thick early-morning mist blanketing the quiet Maryland countryside. Its initial objective was the Dunker Church, barely visible in the distance. Positioned near the church, however, was most of Robert E. Lee's II Corps, under the able command of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. The previous evening McClellan had unwittingly signaled his intention to attack with his right when he sent the Federal I and XII Corps over Antietam Creek to take up positions near "The North Woods" on the Confederate left. Over the past few days, McClellan's repeated hesitations and over-cautiousness had already allowed Lee the opportunity to regroup most of his once far-flung Army of Northern Virginia around Sharpsburg. Yet to arrive, however, were the commands of Lafayette McLaws and A.P. Hill, still approaching from the direction of Harpers Ferry. Nevertheless, the ever-prudent Union commander, laboring under false reports that the Rebels outnumbered his men by at least two to one, decided to feed his corps into the upcoming battle piecemeal, all the while retaining a large reserve for an expected counterattack.

9 APR 00 My brother and I worked well together and our battle, S2069A, against Major Potts ended in a Confederate Major Victory. The General Staff were pleased with our victory and I was promoted to Major.
10 APR 00  The training battle, S1990, ended with another Major Victory for me. Lucky again! The General Staff must have had too much to drink because they then saw fit to promote me to Lt. Col.
11 APR 00  Discovered my father had signed up with the Union Army, and two brothers try desperately to convince him to join the South. He declines and a continues to train at West point.
15 APR 00  Received news of my father, he has passed out of West point and is now 1st Lt A.W.Bramley, C.O 2nd Brigade, 27th Regt U.S Coloured Troops (Black Scorpions), 2nd Division,  XX111 Corps, Army of Ohio.
 18 APR 00  My Father, 1st Lt.A.W.Bramley challenged me to a battle, Gettysburg - Culp's Hill, Bloody Hill, S2384.
July 3rd, 1863 4:00am 20 Turns With reinforcements in hand, Johnson prepared to renew his assault on Culp's Hill at first light. Meanwhile, the commander of the Union XII Corps' 1st Division, Brig. Gen. Williams, whose trenches Johnson's men had occupied the night before, was eager to recapture them and made ready to do so at daybreak. Both sides attacked at the same time and fought at close range in the thickly wooded, rocky terrain. After the failure of the initial Confederate assault, the battle devolved into a series of small-unit encounters with nearly continuous firing on both sides. Around 11am, stiff resistance and a steady stream of reinforcements on the Federal side finally convinced Johnson, his division now in tatters, to call off his attack.
20 APR 00  One of the battles in the Tennessee River Campaign has ended, T2K#108, in a Minor Defeat. It was a good battle and Butch Glanker was a tough opponent.
21 APR 00 Received a Tennessee River Campaign Medal Ribbon for the above battle.
23 APR 00  The battle between Brad Young and myself has come to a conclusion. It ended in a Major Defeat. Brad Young is an excellent tactician and knows his stuff, I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his advice and guidance, he would make an excellent Confederate Officer, if only we could lure him over.
25 APR 00  Once more my brother and I join forces and start a battle, Shiloh - Wilson's Creek, S2406B, against Major Mike Potts, 2nd "Snake" Brigade, III Div, XXIV Corps, Army of the James.
August 10, 1861 18 Turns ---------------------[ Historical ]--------------------- 5:20 AM: As the Civil War began, the state of Missouri was split in its loyalties to the North and South. General Nathaniel Lyon, commanding the Union Army, held Springfield, Missouri with a small force, hoping to keep the Confederates from gaining control of the state. However, Confederate forces under General Ben McCulloch were marching to join the Confederate Missouri State Guard led by General Sterling "Old Pap" Price. Fearing that the combined Confederate forces would be too much to defend against, Lyon decides to make a surprise attack against the Confederate camp. General Sigel convinces Lyon to let him attack separately from the main Union force in an attempt to surround the Confederates, hopefully cutting off their retreat. Just as the Confederates are making final preparations for their own advance against Springfield, Lyon and Sigel launch their dawn attack.
12 MAY 00  Started another battle, Bull Run - Drive the Dogs Back, S2453x, against Major General Brad Young, Cmdr XX Corps, Army of the Cumberland.
July 18, 1861 21 Turns ------------------[ What If ]---------------- 9:00am: Suppose that Brigadier General Daniel Tyler, spoiling for a fight and the celebrated distinction that an early and decisive victory would bring, had decided to ignore McDowell's orders and advance on Blackburn's Ford with his entire division. This scenario has variable entry and release times.
17 MAY 00  My last Tennessee River Campaign came to a close, T2K#27. It ended in a Draw. Lee Gast had me on the run for most of the game but in the final few turns we managed to dig our heals in and counter attack.
18 MAY 00 Received a Tennessee River Campaign Medal Ribbon for the above battle.
18 MAY 00  My battle, S2348, against Major Mike Potts has finally ended in a Major Victory. It was swinging both ways throughout the battle and could have gone either way.
19 MAY 00  Things must be going right, they promoted me to Colonel. Another drunken night in the mess.
19 MAY 00 Lt.Col. Mike Potts has challenged me to another battle. S2518 - BGS - Wallace takes the Shunpike. I know this is going to be a hard fight.
April 6-7, 1862 91 Turns -----------------------[ What If ]----------------------- * The Campaign Game-- with a twist! * 6 AM, 6 April: Historically, Lew Wallace's 3rd Division, encamped about four miles north of Pittsburg Landing, did not arrive on the Shiloh battlefield until after 7 PM - long after it was expected - due mostly to a misunderstanding as to which route Grant wanted him to take. General Wallace was most familiar with the route to Shiloh along the "Shunpike", which crossed Snake Creek just west of Sherman's camps. It was upon this route that he originally started, but then had to backtrack and approach from the north along the "River Road", causing considerable delay. What if Lew Wallace had stayed on the Shunpike? Will his command be isolated when it arrives - or smash into the Confederate left flank?
25 MAY 00  The battle, S2384, against my father has finished. To say he thrashed me would be an understatement! Another Major Defeat. A word to you all, be wary of fighting someone who taught you how to fight!
29 MAY 00  Another battle, Gettysburg - Decisions, Decisions A, has started between my father, 1st Lt A.W.Bramley, C.O 2nd Brigade, 27th Regt U.S Coloured Troops (Black Scorpions), 2nd Division,  XX111 Corps, Army of Ohio.and myself.
July 2nd, 1863 4:00am 51 Turns {alternative A/I} Early on the morning of the 2nd, Gen. Lee had Hill's and Ewell's corps in place, and Longstreet's - minus Pickett's Division - would be arriving soon. The question on his mind was how to best utilize his strength to land a decisive blow. The Federal position was a strong one, and being reinforced continually. The plan he eventually decided on would entail attacking both Union flanks in an attempt to roll them up and thus envelop the entire enemy army. In the event, both attacks failed, leaving the majority of Lee's army spent. Can you do better? Can you find a way to do what Lee couldn't?
30 MAY 00  The battle, S2453x, between Brad Young and myself ended in a Major Defeat. This Officer is good and should be teaching tactics at Vicksburg.
10 JUN 00  Received news from the North that my father has been promoted to Captain. Well done dad.
12 JUN 00  The battle, S2406B, against Major, now Lt.Col. Mike Potts ended in a Major Victory for my brother and myself. I don't think it will be long before this Yankee comes back for revenge.
27 JUN 00 Today my brother, commander of the 5th "Swamp Rats" Brigade, was promoted to Colonel. Looks like a long night in the Swamp Tavern.
5 JUL 00  Lt.Col. Mike Potts, 2nd "Snake" Brigade, III Div, XXIV Corps, Army of the James, has returned for revenge and has challenged my brother and myself to a battle, S2680, BGBR, All the Kings Men.
August 30, 1862 33 Turns -------------------[ What If ]--------------------- 9:20am: Robert E. Lee's army has now been fully assembled on the field of battle, even though John Pope, the Union commander, still refuses to believe that Longstreet's corps has arrived. In fact, Pope has convinced himself that the Confederate army is instead withdrawing! With that in mind, Pope has issued orders for his army to prepare for "pursuit" of the foe. Reinforced with two fresh divisions of Porter's corps, can the Federal's smash Jackson's battered corps before Lee unleashes his "Right Wing"? This scenario features variable releases for most Union divisions - as well as Longstreet's corps.
14 SEP 00 The Grey Ghost have just achieved a Major Victory. The battle was BGS 05. Wallace takes the Shunpike against Lt.Col. Mike Potts. As was expected it was a hard battle and he gave no quarter, in the end we held a hill behind fortifications and just slugged it out.
20 SEP 00  Lt.Col. Mike Potts is back for revenge and we have started a new battle, S3115, BGG, Decisions, Decisions!
July 2nd, 1863 4:00am 51 Turns. Early on the morning of the 2nd, Gen. Lee had Hill's and Ewell's corps in place, and Longstreet's - minus Pickett's Division - would be arriving soon. 7 OCT 00 News from the North
Have just found out that my father has been promoted and is now Lt.Col. A.W.Bramley. Congratulations
15 OCT 00 Have just started a new battle with Lt.Col. Mike Potts. Its the full battle of Chickamauga, so 90 turns of cat and mouse. With all those trees there's going to be a lot of skirmishing.  Game ID Dec1000 Game Key 1000 1249
September 19-20, 1863 90 Turns --------------------[ Historical ]--------------------- ** The Full Two-Day Battle ** 8:00am: Braxton Bragg has been trying to avenge the loss of Chattanooga to William Rosecrans' Army of the Cumberland for several weeks now. After several attempts to trap and strike portions of the Army of the Cumberland southeast of Chattanooga, Bragg finally gets his Army of the Tennessee to move upon the enemy. With half of James Longstreet's 1st Corps already off their trains from Virginia, and the other half expected before sunrise tomorrow, the Confederates will have the unique opportunity to meet the Federals at equal or greater strength. Thinking that the Union army is still spread out south of Lee and Gordon's Mill, Bragg orders Walker's corps and Bushrod Johnson's division to cross over Chickamauga Creek at several bridges north of the Union army and then drive south down the LaFayette road. Bragg hopes to push the Federals back into McLemore's Cove where they can be destroyed, thereby giving him control of Chattanooga and eastern Tennessee. However, unbeknownst to the Rebels, the Union army is finishing an overnight march up the LaFayette road.
15 NOV 00 Lt.Col. Mike Potts is throwing every last man at the South. Another battle has started, BGG Stuart Arrives! 193 turns. Game ID Feb1386 Game Key 13861204.
June 30, 1863 11:00am 193 Turns. Historically, in search of Lee's right flank Stuart rode north from Westminster to Hanover on June 30th. There he encountered Kilpatrick's division of Union cavalry and fought him for most of the day. This scenario assumes that Stuart instead moves northwest to Gettysburg, reaching the town by late morning. With Kilpatrick only a few hours behind him, Stuart moves in to scout the town. There he encounters Buford approaching from the south. Oblivious to the cavalry, Pettigrew's brigade of Heth's division is marching on the town to look for shoes. Will history be forever changed?
18 NOV 00 The Battle, All the King's Men has come to an end. I held the centre while my brother controlled the flanks. Col. Mike Potts fought well and almost turned our left flank but time was against him. After a bitter fight we managed a Confederate Minor Victory.
20 NOV 00 The Battle Decisions, Decisions between my father, Lt.Col. A.W.Bramley and myself after 51 action packed turns has ended in a Major Confederate Victory. At last I got one back <VBG>
30 JAN 01 The South has just started a new Campaign, Southerner against Southerner. The Army of Northern Virginia is setting two of its Corps against one another, Longstreet's Corps (II) against the Swamp Legion (III). The scenario is Horse Play, cavalry against cavalry. I have been instructed to fight Lt.William Green, Green's Richmond Zouaves, Hood's Division, II Corps, ANV. Game ID Feb1385 Game Key 13851201
04 MAR 01 The II Corps V III Corps battle has been called to a halt and a draw has been awarded. The Commanders decided the battle was too one-sided and a new scenario is going to be decided soon. This was good news for me as Lt. Green was carving up my troops, a good tactician and I look forward to our next battle.
05 MAR 01 Once more a battle has begun between my father, Lt.Col A.W.Bramley  2nd Brigade, 27th Regt U.S Coloured Troops (Black Scorpions), 2nd Division,  XX111 Corps, Army of Ohio and myself. We are fighting the Battle of Antietam, 45 turns and I know I may be in for some tough fighting. Game ID MAR 1628, GAME KEY 16281204

06 MAR 01 Today my brother, Col. Vaughan "The English Gent" was promoted to Maj.Gen.(bvt) and has taken command of II Corps (Jackson's Corps) ANV.
Congratulations Brother.
10 MAR 01 The Battle, Decisions, Decisions! between Col. Mike Potts and myself has concluded. We had built a strong defense around Culp's Hill and every attack was strongly repulsed. In the end the Yanks cleverly cut our supply lines and Culps Hill defenders had no choice but surrender. The battle ended in a Major Victory for the Union.
17 MAR 01 As my brother has taken over command of II Corps, I have taken over the role as Adjutant General for the Army of Northern Virginia. I just hope I can do as good a job as he did. To start my new role I decided to develope a new seal. The final one is shown on the right.
20 MAR 01 I have been accepted as an Instructor at the Vicksburg Military Institute.
22 MAR 01  I have been allocated Cadet Mickael Smith CSAMS647 to train. The battle will be Antietam and the scenario will be Supply Problems! The game number is TB03221A.
In early 1862, a Union supply trian from the AOP I Corps with a cavalry escort was ambushed by Confederate cavalry and elements of Longstreet's I Corps in southern Maryland. The forces are about even in strength. Can you, as the Union commander beat your way through the Rebel force and get the supplies through? Or as the Southern commander, can you capture all the Union wagons and send the supporting troops running?

25 MAR 01 A new battle has begun between Lt.Col.B.G.Schlueter, NJ Independant Cavalry, 1st Brigade, II Division, XIX Corps, Army of Shenandoah and the Grey Ghosts. Antietam's Bloody Lane. Game ID MAR1781 Game Key 17811223
September 17, 1862 12 Turns ------------------[ Historical ]------------------ 9am: Following in the footsteps of Sedgwick's division, William French originally intended to move his division in on Sedgwick's right. Events conspired against this, however, as French's Federals encountered advance units of D.H. Hill; and the axis of his advance moved him southward, directly toward Hill's men waiting behind crude breastworks along a sunken farm lane. This scenario has French's Third Division of Sumner's II Corps ready for its initial assault on the entrenched Rebels of D.H. Hill's Division in the Sunken Road. Israel Richardson's 1st Division of the II Corps, behind French, will enter the fray soon. Also on the way are Confederate reinforcements of R.H. Anderson's division, rushed to the new "hotspot" by General Lee.
26 MAR 01  Strange things have been happening within the ANV, I Corps has become II Corps and II Corps is now the I Corps! So our Corps Challenge which was against II Corps is now against I Corps. The battle that has been chosen is Gettysburg, Little Round Top Unleashed! (no fixed units). Lt.William Green, Green's Richmond Zouaves, Hood's Division, I Corps, ANV, will once again be my opponent. Game ID MAR1806 Game Key 18061257.
July 2nd, 1863 3:40pm 12 Turns. Gen. Longstreet's two divisions were finally getting into position to attack the Union left flank on Cemetery Ridge. However, when Gen. Sickles heard that Rebels had been spotted west of the Emmitsburg Road he decided, without Gen. Meade's knowledge, to move his entire III Corps forward off the ridge. His 10,000 men advanced to the slightly higher ground along the road, with its left flank running through what would later be called the Peach Orchard, the Wheatfield and Devil's Den. This put the corps in an isolated position a half mile ahead of the rest of the army, and left Little Round Top - a key vantage point overlooking the Federal lines - undefended. Longstreet proceeded to launch a ferocious attack on Sickles from the west and south. However, Gen. Hood, disobeying Longstreet's order to attack head-on, veered east toward Little Round Top. On the crest of the hill at the time was Maj. Gen. Gouverneur K. Warren of Meade's staff, who promptly rushed

03 APR 01  NEWS FROM THE NORTH

07 APR 01 A courier from Lt.Col.B.G.Schlueter arrived with a surrender order. The battle of Bloody Lane is over and the Rebels achieved a major victory. The Yankees fought well and nearly had us at one stage, but the centre held beyond all expections and the battle was won.
10 APR 01
The battle Chickamauga, between Col.Mike Potts and myself has finally come to an end. After a lot of strategic movement and probing attacks in the woods, we managed a Minor Victory.
21 APR 01 The Battle at Wilson's Creek between my father and the Grey Ghosts ended up as a draw with both sides running in opposite directions.
22 APR 01 Another battle has started at Shiloh, Yankees Resurgent. My father is back, he won't settle for a draw this time I'm sure. Game ID APR1990 Game Key 19901246
April 7, 1862 28 Turns ---------------------[ Historical ]--------------------- 8:40 AM: The stormy night of 6-7 April found the Confederates in possession of most of the battlefield ...and both sides thoroughly exhausted. The Confederates, believing they'd won a decisive victory, went to sleep confident of finishing off Grant's demoralized army in the morning. Thus little effort was made that night to resupply and reorganize Beauregard's troops; most simply fell fast asleep where they last fought. Unbeknownst to all, however, Cheatham's division, minus the 7th Kentucky, had withdrawn to their campground of the previous night. At daybreak, however, the Rebels awoke to find a fresh host of Yankees: Buell's Army of the Ohio had arrived in force! Even though skirmishing across Jones Field and Wicker Field began about daybreak, it was not until after 8 a.m. that Buell's troops began a general advance.
28 APR 01 The first round of I Corps V III Corps has finished and I managed a Major Victory. In round two I have to don the blue suit and not looking forward to it.
30 APR 01 Cadet Mike Smith has now graduated from VMI and is now Fld.Lt.Smith, 1st Brigade "Swamp Crusaders", 4th Division "Black Labrador", III Corps, ANV.
01 MAY 01 I have just been informed by General Carver, Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, that I am now a Brigadier General. Its going to be a long night in the Swamp Tavern.
09 MAY 01 The Second Round of the I Corps V III Corps Tourney has now started and now I have to hold off Captain Bill Green while wearing the blue suit. Game ID APR 1851 Game Key 18511241
12 MAY 01 Have started a training battle with Fld.Lt.Smith. The battle will be 02a. Out of the Mist. I will be wearing the dreaded blue suit. Game ID MAY 2115 Game Key 21151215.
July 1st, 1863 9:00am 35 Turns. Confederate Maj. Gen. Henry Heth, granted permission by Lt. Gen. A.P. Hill to retrieve a reported stockpile of shoes in Gettysburg, ordered two of his brigades, those of Archer and Davis, to march to the town. His other two brigades, those of Pettigrew and Brockenbrough, were to follow in reserve. In his way stood Maj. Gen. John Buford who, alerted by his scouts that the Rebels were converging on the town, decided to deploy his lightly armed cavalrymen to fight a delaying action. Knowing that the hills southeast of Gettysburg would be an ideal defensive position for the Union Army, he wished to deny them to the Confederates as long as possible.
15 MAY 01 Have just been allocated my 2nd Cadet for training. CSAHV672 Cadet Henri van Kerckhoven, from Belgium. The game allocation number will be TB05141a. The training battle will be Chickamauga, 13. A Belly Full O' Fighting.
September 19, 1863 10 Turns--[ Historical ]--- 3:30pm: Confederate Major General John Hood launches the last attack of the afternoon on the southern half of the battlefield against elements of various divisions from all three Union Corps. At several points along the line the Confederates achieve breakthroughs but are stopped by either massed artillery (near the Poe house) or withering fire from Spencer repeaters (west Viniard field). A straggler from Gregg's brigade to the 4th Texas as they moved up: "You fellers'll catch hell in thar! Them fellers out thar... ain't none of the blue-bellied, white-livered Yanks an' forrin hirelin's you have in Virginny that'll run at the snap of a cap - they are Western fellers, an' they'll mighty quick give you a bellyful o' fightin'"

11 SEP 01 At last, after 193 turns of fighting the battle Stuart Arrives! has come to a conclusion. It started on the first day we some minor actions then as night approached reinforcements arrived. As both sides reinfocements started getting into position during the night they accidentally collided and the battle raged all night. The next morning both sides pulled apart and took a breather but soon were locked once more in battle. Later in the day the Rebels started pulling back to prepared defensive positions hotly persued by the bluecoats. Night fell and turned out to be quieter than the previous one. More reinforcements arrived and when morning broke the Rebels saw the whole ridge across from their position was wall to wall artillery. What followed was an artillery barrage that burst the eardrums and made strong men keep their heads down. The Yankees made attack after attack on the Rebel position but with General Lee riding up and down the line engouraging the men the line held and finally the battle ended in a Major Confederate Victory. You could here the Rebel Yell in Richmond.
12 SEP 01 Another battle has started with Colonel Potts, Antietam, Loose Cannons, Norris mod.

-------------------[ What If ]--------------------- 5am: Assume that McClellan has told each of his corps commanders to attack at first light. Assume that each Union corps commander has motivated himself and his men to do just that. Assume that the Confederates are going to have a *very* bad day! This full day scenario has no units fixed on either side, plus variable reinforcements. As a small compensation for the Rebs, Thomas' brigade (A.P. Hill's Division) is assumed to accompany its parent unit to the battlefield instead of remaining behind in Harpers Ferry. For the Union, the arrival of Franklin's VI corps is less than certain. This scenario incorporates the Norris Style Mod - Tom Linquanti. Game ID SEP2733 Game Key 27331241
18 SEP 01 The Battle of Antietam has finally ended. My father managed to push my left flank back and also captured Jeb Stuart who was trying desperately to rally the men. Luckily reinforcements arrived and steadied the flank. The centre was attacked repeatedly but held. Finally the Yankees ran out of steam and the Grey Ghost Division and the South claimed a Major Victory.
23 SEP 01 Have just started a training battle with my brother. Its the two day battle of Fredericksburg 101 turns.
On November 14, Burnside, now in command of the Army of the Potomac, sent a corps to occupy the vicinity of Falmouth near Fredericksburg. The rest of the army soon followed. Lee reacted by entrenching his army on the heights behind the town. On December 11, Union engineers laid five pontoon bridges across the Rappahannock under fire. On the 12th, the Federal army crossed over, and on December 13, Burnside mounted a series of futile frontal assaults on Prospect Hill and Marye’s Heights that resulted in staggering casualties. Meade’s division, on the Union left flank, briefly penetrated Jackson’s line but was driven back by a counterattack. Union generals C. Feger Jackson and George Bayard, and Confederate generals Thomas R.R. Cobb and Maxey Gregg were killed. On December 15, Burnside called off the offensive and recrossed the river, ending the campaign. Burnside initiated a new offensive in January 1863, which quickly bogged down in the winter mud. The abortive “Mud March” and other failures led to Burnside’s replacement by Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker in January 1863.

25 SEP 01 My father has come back for more blood and has challenged me to BGG/Decisions, Decisions!
July 2nd, 1863 4:00am 51 Turns {Historical} Early on the morning of the 2nd, Gen.

12 OCT 01 The battle between Colonel Potts and myself has come to a conclusion. After drawing a line, both sides stood toe to toe, neither giving ground. To save lives at Antietam both sides decided to call a halt to the fighting resulting in a draw.
