I attended Gympie
Central State School from the ages of 5 years to 12 years. The only memory
that springs to mind is of Mrs Sedgeman(???), whom I recall was nick-named
The Sledgehammer. I can also remember being "Bell Monitor" for a while,
back in GradeTwo.
I fondly remember the daily supplies of milk that were meted out
to us all. It was an intelligent person who came up with the idea
of 'flavoured straws' for our own choice of colours. Of course then the
Milk Company got that idea too, and the 'flavoured straws' disappeared.

Besides being a Primary
School, Central was twice used for Secondary education also. Some buildings
originally housed High School pupils until the new High School has built
on Cootharaba Road in 1917. It subsequently burned down in 1955, and Central
was again used for Secondary education until the new High School was rebuilt.
