Our family owns two horses. Both are kept at our
house in a barn we built last summer. Trevor, my horse, is huge; about
16.5 hands. We believe he's about half Appaloosa, half American Quarter
Horse. He is a chestnut color with white freckles on his nose which is so
adorable! Trevor is a great trail horse. He rides very smoothly and,
with the tap of a crop every now and then, listens well also.
This is Trevor!!!
Playboy is my mom's horse. He is a Rocky Mountain
Horse from Kentucky. The Rocky's have a very comfortable 4-beat gait which
makes the rider sway back and forth without ever bouncing. We bought him
last year from Fun-e-Farm in Skippack. He is very sweet, and sometimes a
little shy around objects that move fast. This is because he was a
previously abused horse who was rescued. He is a chocolate colored pony
with a tiny white blaze and a very long blonde mane and tail. He is so
beautiful!!!
This is Playboy!!!
Trevor and Playboy have become best friends. This
has been a little of a problem though. Being that they are the only two
horses in the barn, they are used to having the other there at all times.
When we go to ride one horse, but leave the other behind, the other horse will
be so loud and obnoxious!!! They can't stand to be apart. Trevor is
the worst about this. He even would not cross the road one afternoon until
we brought Playboy out so he could follow him across. Finally, after a
long time of trying, we got Trevor to cross alone, but it was a
battle.
Except for the few times when riding a horse is more of a
challenge than you expected on tackling, horseback-riding is one of the most,
exciting and one of the happiest parts of my life. I still don't mind
getting up before the sun before getting ready for school to feed the horses in
the morning. I love saying Trevor's name and seeing his head look up from
wherever he is at me, then giving him a peppermint which he loves.
Riding horses and taking care of the ones I have is one of my passions in
life. Riding him lets me forget about everything going wrong in my life
and in the world and has made me a better person.
