Being a recast is difficult enough. Now imagine that the new hire is portraying the character as he attempts to conceal his true identity. Oh, and he just happens to be playing his alter ego's evil "twin" brother, too.

Confusing, yes, but Trevor St. John aptly distinguished between Walker, who's really Todd, as well as Flynn, who pretended to be Walker (got that?), and portrayed Walker's desperation as he struggled to keep Todd in check.

As more people learned of Walker's identity, St. John let glimmers of Todd shine through. We could see Todd when Walker lowered his eyes while holding back from telling his sister, Viki; with fiancee Blair, Walker's gaze was always shifting, making sure nothing could clue her in to his secret. When Kevin and Kelly did figure him out, Walker reverted to his old self; threatening Kev and glowering at Kelly, insisting, "Todd is dead."

Later, the flamboyant Flynn tricked Blair into thinking that he was Walker. This time, St. John exaggerated the "new" traits Walker has affected -- the self-assured strut and an overuse of affection (Blair wondered why Flynn kept calling her "baby"). But when Flynn and Walker eventually faced off, both guys broke down; Walker was pure Todd, sneering at Flynn as he held him at gunpoint. The cowardly Flynn wimpered as he begged Walker not to hurt him.

Even during the showdown, Walker was determined to stay a changed man. "I don't want your death on my conscience," he said, standing tall and staring into Flynn's eyes. "I have [a conscience]."

Because we believe that Walker believes that he has become someone else, we're on board with St. John, whomever he's playing.
