Getting to City of Hope
Once again, the California curse has struck. I didn't know exactly how I was going to get to the airport when I left for work this morning, so I decided to drive rather than take the bus. During the day, a co-worker told me of a shuttle service available to get from campus to the airport, so I chose that route rather than driving (pain in the ass plus expensive to park) or getting a cab (expensive). My shuttle showed up a little bit late and traffic was bad, so I was worried about getting to the airport on time. I got there on time. This was my first time to fly Southwest Airlines. I wasn't aware of the open seating policy, so getting on the plane was an adventure (not really, but whatever). My flight stopped in Oakland on the way to Ontario. After most people left the plane, the captain notified us that if our destination was Ontario that we should also get off the plane since the winds were too strong to land in Ontario. There was a bit of confusion and difficulty in getting a plan together, but I was able to fly to LAX and got to the City of Hope at about 12:30am. |

It's been a month
Bryan's been in the hospital for about a month now and he's not too happy about it. He's obviously ready to leave, but he needs to be eating and off the IV bags first. We snuck outside for a little while this morning. When we headed to the elevators, a nurse's assistant came out of the elevator and excitedly said, 'There you are!' The nurses were unhappy with us because the doctor had come by and Bryan wasn't there. We were lectured that if we left the room, we needed to tell the nurses we were leaving and that we should never leave before the doctor made his rounds in the morning. I was surprised that they didn't care we went outside. It seems that his immune system is doing okay. |

Time to hang out and talk
The girls (Bryan's step-mom, sister, wife, and step-sister) all went to LA today. So we spent the day just hanging out and talking. Bryan started feeling quite a bit better today. Dana brought in a movie and we watched that before bedtime. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Uhhh... what's going on?
Aliens have taken over Bryan's body and doing odd things with it. First thing this morning he went for an hour long walk in the rose garden near the hospital. Then he decided to sit in a chair rather than the bed. Then he decided he wanted to lose to me twice in a row playing Madden on the XBox. Then, to top it all off, he ordered actual food and ate it. It really sucks that I have to leave today when he's starting to feel so much better, but its nice to see that he's finally feeling better. The doc also said that he may be able to move to The Village (on campus housing) within the next week. Things are looking up. |
