2nd General Meeting Minutes

A. Purpose, Dues, Requirements, Special Members
· Information regarding dues, membership and requirements were addressed at meeting.

· Reminder that membership forms are due next week, please make sure Chang (treasurer) or Marilyn (secretary) gets them.

B. Community service
· If you have not signed up for community service this month, you can do so by visiting our website or contacting our coordinators Grace or Rochelle. (Remember that every member is required to fulfill 6 hours of community service per semester.

C. Events
· Medical School Seminars
Taking place on 9/26/01 at USF
· Mentor Night
Taking Place on Thursday, October 18, 2001, McLaren 252 at 6pm
Space is limited, please register at CO 227 with Charlene Lobo or call at 422-6841, to be assured a seat.
· Dental School Seminar
Taking place on Wednesday 9/26/01m, 6-7:30pm
· Breast Cancer Walk-a-thon
Taking place on Sunday, 10/28/01 at Golden Gate Park

D. Team Updates
· Fundraising Team: Possibly designing pumpkins; making Hawaiian shirts; making cookies and selling them; Crispy Cream?
· Main Event Team: Nov. 12-Exploring Careers in Biology (inviting doctors, and other related professionals); Asking professionals if BBB students can shadowing them for a whole day, anyone know of any people that can speak at this event; Dinner?
· Network Team: There is a dentistry opportunity for those that are interested, (check bulletin); UCSF applications for community service will be available next meeting.
· Mentor Team: Study session for Bio 106; possibly bringing in tutors from the writing center; passing out a signup sheet to see what exams are coming up and students can get together according to their schedules.
· Social /Community service Team: Brainstorm on Bowling, Ice skating, costume party combined with talent show; for X-mas possibly go out into the community as Santa Clauses and giving out gifts; BBB secret Santa gift exchange.

E. Did you Know?
· Did you know that the life expectancy of males is about 75 years and that of women is 78. If research with stem cells goes well, life expectancy for our generation, females and males will increase to possibly 110 years or more.

F. Misc.
· If you are interested in buying sweatshirts, please contact our president or Chang. ($50 we only have medium size left)

G. Next BBB Meeting
· 3rd Gen meeting will be on Oct 8th, place TBA, also keep an eye out for our posters.
