New Tribes Bible Institute
Waukesha, WI
1996-1998
New Tribes Mission's training program includes 3 phases. The Bible Institute is the first and consists of two solid years of essential Bible truth. NTBI was founded to provide a biblical foundation for missionary candidates in a setting that stresses the heartbeat of God for the world. Within these two years, every book of the Bible is offered for verse by verse study. In addition, other classes include: Choir, Bible Introduction and Interpretation, evangelism, Homiletics, Family and N.T. Church Principles.
New Tribes Missions Institute
Jersey Shore, PA
1998-1999
The second phase of training is called Missions Institute. This phase covers the practical application of biblical truth in actual life, equipping the candidate for missionary service. Here the candidates receive training in tribal church planting from a New Testament perspective, guidelines to understanding another culture and language, and tools to communicate God's Word effectively in that culture. One of the tools we use is called the chronological teaching method. Starting in Genesis, then working through the Old Testament, students are taught how to prepare the people they are teaching to properly understand and receive the message of the gospel. Other training includes practical skills such as carpentry, small engine repair, electrical wiring and living in remote, isolated conditions.
New Tribes Language Institute
Camdenton, MO
1999-2000
The final phase of training is called Language Institute. This phase covers the technical aspects of linguistics, language study and Bible translation. Candidates will engage in courses related to phonetics and phonemics, literacy and translation, and various other classes related to missionary life. Six weeks of their time here is spent in a live language simulation utilizing all previously acquired skills to learn a new culture and language.
This may appear to be an inordinate amount of training and possibly a squandering of valuable time. However, Kim and I are convinced that God has called us to take the Gospel to an unreached people group and we know that in order to accomplish this task He would desire that we be as thoroughly furnished to meet the task as we possibly can.
