Hopelessly alone. Bitterly experienced. Horribly in pain. She was all that. But not by her own desicion. Fate had made her this way, and now she had to fight to survive. Chapter 1 The smoky bar spinned around her. She saw smiling faces and drunk men trying to grab her. All was a messy blur. All she could think of was to get out. Fast. She had had one too many drinks and things didn't go so smoothly from there on. She stubled and stuttered towards the door when suddenly a strong hand grabbed hers and pulled her into a corner. She mumbled in frustration as her eyes didn't quite follow her mind. She felt a wave of cold air just before she passed out. Next morning was sheer horror. She found herself in an alley behind a stincking trashbox. She tried to stand up but yet again her body protested and she sunk to the ground moaning in pain. It felt like someone was hitting her head with a hammer over and over and over again. She gathered some strenght and stood up not giving a shit about the pain. She felt cold and noticed that her clothes were soaking wet! Great. It must've rained during the night. Stumbling she walked away crying bitter tears. Why did this always happen to her? It wasn't easy to be alone, no one looking after her. "I wish Scott was still here.." she whispered. The door squicked as she opened it slowly. "Damn! Don't you start also..!" She sweared to herself. One look around her humble appartement made the tears rise up again. Swallowing hard she threw herself on the bed. Sighing she started to change when she noticed dried blood on her thies. "Oh my.. It couldn't be. No!" Bursting into tears she finally realised what had happened. It sure would have been too lucky for her not the be taken advantage of like that. Her bad luck always drove her into horrible situations. So she had started drinking, just to ease the pain of being all alone in the world. Finally she had made it a habit in a small and dirty bar near her trashy apartement in an office building. The virus had taken everything away from her. Her parents, her whole family. Even her only friend was killed by an evil tribe roaring around the city, trying to take over completely. It was hopeless. Chapter 2 The misty forest made her scared. She had never really been a horrormovie fan so creepy places just made her chiver. She started whistling, just to pretend to be brave. Though it didn't quite work, because her lips quivered too much, so she just made an almost unhearable sound that soon disappeared into the air. It was almost morning and she had been walking all night, her heart in her throat, worrying about her safety. Her legs had been hurting almost an hour now and she was exhausted of all the walking. Sighing heavily she sunk to the grass and concentrated on staring the morning sky. It was going to be a beautiful day. If only she didn't have to worry so much. If only she wasn't alone. Giving up she opened her backbag and took out a bottle. She opened it and sipped a little. Soon the sipping turned into larger and larger amounts of booze. She cried herself to sleep as the morning dawned around her. Pride shaded his eyes with his hand as he looked around from the top of one hill. He sat on a rock, enjoying the warm sunshine and thinking. He always came here to have some peace, to clear his thoughts. Especially now, the rock had become a regular hiding, since Eagle's old tribe came to warn the Gaians. It was still uncertain, would they help them. Pride though had already made up his mind after seeing the destruction they had caused all around the city and the suburbs. Soon they would find them. It was obvious, Eagle just didn't want to listen. Scoping around the valley beneath him, he spotted something or someone in the grass. He couldn't quite figure out what it was, but as he walked closer he became certain it wasn't a person. "A bag.." He looked around, searching for it's owner but saw no one. He suddenly remembered something from his past. He recognised the bag! It was just like it. "Tina." He whispered. Troubled he stomped back to his rock and left the mountain. Chapter 3 Kneeled beside the river and washing her face, she tried to remember the morning. A thought, a feeling, anything. Frustrated, she shouted and splatted the water. "No, no! I promised! No tears.." But she couldn't help it, no matter how hard she fought, the salty tears ran down her cheeks. She took a mirror from her pocket and looked at herself. She frowned. "Eww. I look discusting!" Her red and sleepy eyes were rounded by black bags and her skin was all spotty from all the crying. Her dark hair looked dead and greasy. "Really gross... I need to wash." Suddenly she felt a sharp twist in her stomach. She felt her throat burning.. And threw up beside her on the wet sand for five minutes. The effort made her tired and she collapsed to the ground. The evening she spent hiking over the mountains and trying not to hear her stomach making loud noises. Food was a problem. She hadn't had it in days. But she had to keep the pace up, so she could reach the city by next morning. The night would be a long one, again. The next morning at the Gaian camp, Pride was yet again deep in thought. What was Tina's bag doing in the mountains. He never had seen Tina as a natureloving person, so she must have a reason to go there. A slight spark of hope made him smile. Maybe she was there for him? No. She didn't care about him. Not anymore. Pride soon realised, she didn't even had an idea where he was... Pride sighed sadly as he stood up and got ready for breakfast. Chapter 4 "Pride! Eagle! Intruder!" a Gaian girl screamed as she ran hysterically towards them. Pride looked at Eagle and said: "I'll go and see." Eagle nodded and watched silently as Pride walked away. He saw two guards holding a medium height girl who looked very sleepy, too sleepy to harm anyone. As he stomped closer, his heart beat few extra beats. He looked at the girl in awe, quite long actually because the guards were getting restless. "Pride? What should we do to her..?" the older asked. Suddenly he snapped from his gaze and said slowly: "Take her to the fire, she must be tired. Oh, and get her proper food." The guards carried the pale girl towards Eagle, who looked at Pride fiercly. "No!" she shouted and the guards stopped, confused. "She can stay until she wakes up. Then she must go and we'll move camp. Tonight." She gave Pride one last murdering look and walked upstairs to her cabin with few leaps. How dare he risk the tribe like that?! And without asking the leader? When she woke up, she thought she was still dreaming. Though she never had had this nice dreams. Always nightmares. There was Scott, right infront of her. Smiling. She too tried to twist her face into something like a grin, but failed and only produced a slight sighing sound. "Are you hungry?" he asked. She nodded and was served vegetables and fish. WARM food. Wow. She was in paradise. Scott suddenly became all serious and looked down at his feet. She became worried. Was the dream ending? Was he going to fade away and disappear into the air? But instead she started talking with that lovely voice. It always soothed her down. "Why did you come?" Not exactly what she wanted to hear but she did owe an explanation. "Dangerous. It was too dangerous and tough living there on my own." she almost whispered and the hated tears appeared again. "I wanted to get away... and you were the only one I've got left. They killed Sophie. And stole the food. And.." She was about to continue, but her throat started burning again and her stomach didn't stop twirling. She ran to the forest and kneeled behind one tree. Her throat burning and her head aching, she threw up yet again. Pale and stumbling she returned to her blanket and met Pride's eyes, staring at her, concerned. "I'm fine. It's just.. I guess the water wasn't good afterall.." She sat down and put her quivering hands on her lap. "Sorry." Pride laid a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. You're safe now." He put his arms around her and let her sob. Chapter 5 Eagle paced back and forth in her cabin. She was hurt. She didn't quite understand why Pride let the girl stay.. Did he know her? Suddenly her pacing was interrupted by a knock on the door. "Come in!" Pride stepped in, a funny embarassed look on his face. "Eagle.." he began but stopped as Eagle turned around and came towards him. "Who is she? She better be someone important, cause you let her stay like that! You didn't even concider the safety of this tribe! What about if she's a Chosen spy?! What then, Pride?" Her burst was unexpected and Pride was speechless for a short while. Then he started to explain. "She's Tina. My old.. friend." He looked up. "She means no harm, I'm sure. She's just tired of walking over the mountains from the city. From north." Eagle listened quietly and sighed. "Fine." Pride grinned widely. "I knew you'd understand!" She still didn't smile, only her eyes softened a bit. "We need to discuss the Chosen situation." She changed the subject smoothly. He nodded. "Yes. This evening." The members of the Gaian tribe sat in a circle, ready to vote. Most of them were babbling to each other, others just stood and listened. Eagle walked to the center and started talking. "We are dealing with a ruthless tribe here. Pride has seen the destruction they have caused and the people they've killed for Zoot, their 'god'.. It is obvious that they won't be defeated without help." At this point, Bray and Lex were smiling. Dal looked reliefed and was ready to say something. But.. "Unfortunately, we can't be that help. There's too much in risk.." The crown around her nodded and clapped in agreement. Bray stared at Eagle's eyes blankly. He couldn't believe it. She had changed so much.. "Amber.. How can you ignore your friends? They are slaves! Prisoners in their own home!! You can't be so feelingless.. Amber! You must.." "What? Risk the wellbeing of my tribe for you? Risk all of our lives for your tribe?! Lose our home for you?! No, Bray. I'm not stupid. And I do have a responsibility as the leader." "Aren't you supposed to vote on this?" Bray tried. "Fine. Against helping?" she looked around as people started raising their hands. Almost everyone agreed. "Happy now?!" Amber hissed and stomped back up. She left the Mall Rats standing in awe. Chapter 6 Tina sat beside the fire, still very weak. She was studying her nails deep in thought when she felt a hand on hers. Quickly she took few steps to the left and then stopped to think. She saw Pride looking at her laughing. "Oh, Scott. I didn't hear you." She sat back embarassed. "It's Pride nowadays.. I changed it when I ..left." He explained. Tina looked at him sadly. She didn't want to memorize that event. It wasn't a plesant day.. Scott, or Pride, left her and took off towards the mountains only leaving a simple note saying: I'm sorry Tina, but I can't stay. Love, S. She never saw him again, until now. It had already been a year and she had gotten over him. Mostly. "Why?" she asked her voice breaking. She felt ackward and depressed. Pride kept his eyes on the ground and cleared his throat. "I.. I had to get away. My dad had just died and I had no one.." "You had me. Or wasn't I enough? You needed a tribe leader. An Eagle." Tina said bitterly and was beginning to leave. "I'm sorry. Tina? Tina! I am!" It was no use, she had gone. Tina ran. She ran away. Ran as fast as she could. She ran until she was out of breath. The path she ran got thinner and thinner until she was in the middle of nowhere. She couldn't possibly get back! Such embarassing exit.. What was she thinking? Running off like that? "Shit!" She sat on a rock to think. Everything was a mess. She, her heart.. even her tummy. She was scared. The night she didn't remember anything about. That was exactly the problem. She didn't remember. Pride thought for five seconds and then ran after her. He couldn't let her run like he did. What if she didn't return? You could expect anything from her. Pride followed her footsteps on the path. He saw her sitting on a rock behind a bush. She cried. It broke his heart everytime she cried that hopelessly. Last time was when her parents had died. The her brother. Then she cried almost daily. Now she sobbed her face on her hands, obviously depressed. Because of him? Tina jumped as she heard a noise in the bushes. She quickly wiped the tears from her face and stopped to listen. Someone was coming towards her. She stood up and walked to the bush. This was so not like her, which alone proved she wasn't herself. She screamed a little when Pride suddenly stepped out. "Hey! Don't do that!" she looked at him with a startled look. "You were crying.." he started. Tina conveniently changed the subject. "You really, really shouldn't. You could frighten someone seriously. I mean, people like me can't deal with it like strong and tough people. Like you for example.." She was blabbing, and realized it herself, but couldn't stop. It was uncomfortable, him standing so close. She could do anything to just hug him for a moment. She couldn't even dream about anything else, it was too far fetched. She thought her heart was going to stop as he put his hand on her shoulder to quiet her. "Tina.. Stop blabbing." he said laughing. She tried to fake a smile. Obviously she failed. "Why? Is something wrong?" "I'm scared.. Something could get wrong. I'm just not the type." she said before realising, he might figure the situation out. "Natureliving I mean.." Too late. He had his suspiciouslook again. "I don't think that was your reason for crying." He took her face in his hands and made her look into his eyes. Tina thought she would faint. "Tell me." She tried to pull off, but it was no use. She sighed and started telling her voice breaking. "It happened a while ago. I can't remember, but I'm sure it was it. And.. I'm late." she blushed and felt really uncomfortable. She kept looking down at her feet swearing in her thoughts. This wasn't the things you talk to your ex. Not at all. "You mean.. you're pregnant?!?" He let her out of his grip and stepped back. He was thinking a while, but then gathered the courage to ask one important question. "So.. Who's the father..?" He too looked down. If someone would have walked past they would have thought they've dropped something. Tina whispered, tears in her eyes. "I don't know. I was passed out.." She saw Pride's eyes change as he got angrier. "Don't know? But.. did he rape you?!" His voice got loud and his eyes were darker than usual. Tina bursted into tears and fell in his arms. She couldn't stand it. She hated herself, she hated the baby, and especially the world! Chapter 7 After a long and sad night full of desperate thoughts, Tina finally got some sleep. Pride had carried her back to the camp and layed her on his bed. Now he watched her sleep, she looked so peaceful. What he didn't know that her dreams weren't so nice afterall.. She ran through the dark alley hearing footsteps and screams behind her. She ran faster and faster towards the narrow light in front of her. But when she got closer the light moved away.. She cried in pain when she fell on the freezing street. She saw blood pouring from her arms unstoppably. She felt weak and the last thing she saw was a faceless figure holding a knife on her throat before she passed out... Tina woke up screaming. She jumped up from the bed and couldn't stop. She was shaking and couldn't stand properly. Pride had slept on the floor beside her and had been frightened by the noise she caused. "What's wrong?" he tried to calm her down as she tried desperately to steady her breath. "Leave me alone! Just.. let me be." she cried. She wanted to embrace the darkness, to disappear for good. She couldn't take it anymore. She grabbed her clothes and ran out to the chilly woods. This was it. The nightmares had to stop. The knife shone spookily in the midday sun. A teardrop fell on the blade as Tina watched the weapon in her trembling hand. Shouting to the empty valley she threw the knife as far as she could.. which wasn't that far she couldn't see it anymore. The temptation was terrible. To end the phyical and mental pain once and for all. The pressure was enourmous. Everything was piling up on her shoulders, and there was no one to help her. Except for Pride, but being near him made her hurt even more. He was the so called forbitten fruit, something she could never have and it was killing her.. Literally. Finally giving up to desperation, she picked up the knife from the grass. She shred the one last tear and pressed the blade on her wrist. Slash! And it was over.. Before this, Pride was at his rock, yet again. Thinking. He felt sorry for Tina, she had been through too much bad things in her short life. She was only 16, 15 when her whole family died around her. No one survived. And being the only child had only made her sorrow deeper. He had taken care of her, until she had taken drugs. That was the final step towards the rockbottom. She had started drinking and was the total opposite of her pre-virus self. Pride sighed sadly as he went through all this again. Then his thoughts were interrupted by a shout. Somewhere near by. He followed it because it might just be Tina, in trouble. He hadn't seen her since the morning when she had ran again. She always ran. Pride tried to look for Tine from the river. No one. The he saw something near the small bunch of trees on the other side. Tina lay on the ground, blood pouring from her wrists. "Oh my god.." he whispered and rushed to help her. Pressing the wound he mumbled to himself: "No, don't die. Tina, you cannot die! Please, don't.." Her white and lifeless skin didn't promise anything good. Pride lifted her and started to hurry towards the Gaian camp. Was it too late? Chapter 9 As the Gaians were getting ready to go to the city, Pride couldn't even think leaving Tina. Eagle knew this, and still wanted them to go fight the Chosen. What was she thinking? Maybe that Pride would stop thinking about Tina while they were in the city. He sighed. It was all so complicated. Tina had appeared in his life, just when he was beginning to forget and get a gripp on his life again. He had Eagle, a place where he could live in peace. Then she wandered back and opened all the wounds. Now they would never heal. He looked at her. Angel, that's what she looked like. Innocent, yet so fragile. He was worried about her future. She had tried to kill herself, because of the baby. The baby she hated. The same baby that had made her life untolerable. If only he could ease her pain. Well, now it wasn't necessary. Not anymore. Pride was wondering if she could remember, if she was having dreams. Or was she completely in the dark. He took her small hand in his and stroke her black hair. It was so soft. Unlike other people, she hadn't started putting huge amounts of make-up on her face after the virus. She didn't believe in warpaint. She had been more like a hippie chick. Pure and innocent. Though the last months hadn't been so innocent.. Pride felt so sorry for her. Endless circle of booze and drugs, just because the world had turned against her. He kissed her on the forehead and walked off slowly, head down. Sorrow was a powerful enemy. As Pride stepped out of the room, there was a big thump, right behind him. He turned, not sure what to think. On the floor lay Tina, curled up in a lump. She was in obvious pain. "Help me.." she breathed. Pride snapped from his shock and ran to help her back to the bed. She had just woke up from a coma, and there it was! Another problem to deal with. She sure wasn't the luckiest person around... Tina looked like she was in serious pain. She tossed and turned her eyes tightly closed. "Can you tell me what it is? Tina? Say something..?" he was lost again. He didn't know what to do when her, and his, savior came bursting in. "Pride, I heard... Tina?" Eagle stood just as amazed as Pride had been awhile ago. "She's.. she.." Eagle stuttered and pointed at Tina. Then she realized that everything wasn't ok. "What's wrong?" "I think it might be the ba.." he suddenly stopped, remembering a promise. He couldn't tell anyone.. Now he had to let her down again. What was wrong with these situations?! "The baby." he finished. Eagle was obviously really confused, but reacted immediately. "Go get Fox! I'll stay with her.." she looked at Pride. Then said: "It's a miscarriage." Pride nodded and stormed out, looking for Fox, their medical expert. The Gaians were very quiet that night. They worried, because Pride, usually so calm and strong, was pacing back and forth. He didn't stop unless someone would come out of the room. Then he would jump, looking both excited and scared. This was a new side of him that the Gaians witnessed. Finally somewhere around midnight: "Pride.." Eagle said as she stepped out of the room. "She's fine. A little rest couldn't hurt though.. She's had a rough couple of weeks." She smiled a little, happy on her recovery, but secretly little low on Pride dismissing her. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, but he'd get over it. Soon.. Tina lay still on the huge and comfy bed, looking nothing like her old self. Her skin was white and tired. he looked like far beyond her years. Her appearence didn't give out anything she was thinking. Pobably about the baby though. Pride stepped closer, careful not to do anything too happy, afteral she as quite vulnrable and sensitive right now. Atleast he thought so.. Quietly he sat down and waited. Tina's mind was a mess. The thoughts twirled around her head so quickly she couldn't catch a single one.. It was frustrating. What was she supposed to think, that she didn't know. She was left out from her own mind. The calm and simple little things kept pushing her away so she couldn't hang on to anything. All she could do was fight her own inner war and let the outer shell lie still. Chapter 10 A week passed by slowly. Everyone stayed basicly to themselves and even the Gaians stopped talking. The camp was just as quiet as in the night. Tina kept staring at her seiling and slept all the time. Eagle spent most of her time with the Mall Rats and some other Gaians as they planned the attack against the Chosen. When she stepped her foor on the camp, she didn't speak and hardly even looked anyone in the eyes. She was not like herself at all. Pride spent more and more of his time at his rock and stared forward. Lately he hadn't even come home for the night. He could be gone for several nights and then come back, sulking of course. Weird things were happening in the woods.. Tina's mind hadn't stopped twirling. She had tried to sleep the confusion over, but surprise! It was no use. The other side in her had adjusted to the new situation, but the strong and stubborn side hadn't. That side kept fighting back, over and over again. So, the twirling went on and on. Finally she got frustrated, when there wasn't anything decent to think. She shouted and stormed out, dropping pillows all over the floor. Some Gaians that had gathered around the fire, turned in amaze. This was the first time there was any action lately. Tina threw a murdering look at them and headed towards the woods, and the city. Her city. It had been too long, too long she had stayed with Pride. It was getting to her. The grass was wet from the raining last night. Tina's eyes didn't keep open and she yawned, exhausted. It had been almost six hours since she last stopped for some rest. She wasn't really a person to keep track of time without a watch so she basicly had no idea what time it was.. Somewhere around 9 in the evening perhaps? She stumbled and fell almost on fer face.. Loud four-lettered words echoed in the empty valley. She couldn't even get up before falling peacefully to sleep. The next morning was dawning as she found herself still face down on the grass. She let out a little giggle. This was kinda funny! And definately unusual.. Laughing to herself she got up and got going. This was gonna be the last day she was wandering in the mountains. She had to get back, no matter what obstacles Mother Nature happened to put on her way. She had made a promise and that was going to keep. Maybe? The city had no lights. The creepy, dark alleys were probably filled with murderers and psychopaths, she was quite sure about that. But determined to reach her appartement alive, she kept going. Finally! There it was. A small door on one of the alleys. She tried the handle and was quite surprised to find it open. She must of left it open.. Or not. Luckily she was alone this time. Some of the stuff had been throwed to the floor and some of the blankets and pillowes were gone.. but it was ok. She was safe.. home. Away from all the pressure and pain. Chapter 11 Eagle was furious! Tina had left and no one bothered to inform her in days! What was this? Didn't the Gaians care about their safety and secrecy?! She snapped, if anyone tried to talk to her. All she could think of was, how stupid she had been.. Letting her stay like that, letting her be like she wanted. Just letting her come and ruin everything.. She was going soft. Pride had got his part of her rage as he told her the facts. He had been miserable anyway and she had just made him feel more guilty. Now she regretted her behavior.. but was glad she hadn't given up. Glad she was finally gone, but worried. All the mixed feelings went around in her head. Pride held a cup of food in his hands. He had barely eaten anything in days. He just sulked and sat by himself in corners. A new side in him, indeed. He understood why Tina had left.. It was probably for the same reason he had once. He had needed to find some peace of mind in the middle of chaos. The city had been so messed up and dangerous, he couldn't even walk on the street without being captured or beaten up. Now she was going back there.. Back to the hellhole. Their city was so different from the city the Mall Rats lived in.. There was some order and people knew who was their enemy. Tina wasn't safe. Not if she stayed there alone.. Chapter 12 Tina walked along the very familiar path, across a field filled with garbage and rusty cars. She headed towards the same old bar she went to every night. And this wasn't any different. Everything was back to normal. She would probably end up sleeping in the street but atleast she could forget. Scott was gone. Completely. From her thoughts, from her heart. Still, thinking about the happy times made a tear run across her cheek. Tonight she had put makeup, usually she didn't, but now it was all so different. She had to hide her true self. Hide the truth. She reached the alley where the bar was. The same door opened slowly as she rang the bell. The smoke was again something else than only from cigarettes. The bartender nodded at her and started prepairing her usual.. It was all so familiar. It had become a routine. Eagle watched as Bray and the others had a fierce conversation on the other side of the room. She didn't hear exactly what it was all about but she could guess. Lex wanted to attack and beat everyone up, and Bray wanted to wait for the right moment and make a surprise attack. Ebony was murderous. Eagle sighed loudly and turned to look out of the dirty window. She wondered what Pride was doing. Who was he thinking about? Stupid question.. Tina of course. But what was he thinking about..? Maybe that he loved her, or that he had made a mistake? She concidered all the options, though there weren't many, it was all too obvious. Pride must think she was only a friend. But she felt more. Seeing Bray had proved that.. She couldn't think of Bray as her lover anymore. It was gone, all those past feelings. She had found a new love.. only he didn't love her back. And it hurt. She had to go for a walk. Eagle jumped up and ran through tha fighting Mall Rats, leaving them watching after her, puzzled. The cold breeze made her hands shiver but she couldn't go back. Not yet. She had to cool off first. To let all the feelings fly away.. far away. Suddenly she realized where exactly she was. It was a narrow road leading to the city. She quickly glanced back where she had come from and then smiling bitterly decided to go. The city was calling for her. It had been a long time.. Again she had to crawl. The room spinned and she had lost all sense of directions. The door seemed to be on her left, but when she turned it was on the right. She had to give out a little giggle. It was all so funny, atleast when you were drunk. Her knees were sore and she stopped to rest for a while. She looked up, eyes hardly open. So many people were like her, looking for comfort and some peace of mind from the bottle. It was pathetic, she was aware of that, but it was the only solution she saw. Then she couldn't keep her eyes open anymore. She slumped to the floor. She didn't see that a figure walked over to her and picked her up, carrying the poor girl to the door.. The figure was smiling. Chapter 13 She lied on a blanket, sleeping. Suddenly she started mumbling words. "No.. Don't. Scott.. Where?" She jumped up looking very scared. She rubbed her eyes and then stopped to think. Where was she? She didn't see any furniture, the windows were shut and covered with black curtains. Fortunately there was a door and she tried it. Of course. Locked. "Just great.." She sat on the corner. This was becoming a habit. She tried to get some sleep again. Maybe they would let her out soon. All she could do is wait. Hours passed by and Tina was still sitting on her corner. She kept glancing to the door every once in a while, just in case. Then, it opened. Not slowly, like in horror films, building up the excitement.. but suddenly, crashing to the wall. She watched mouth open, as a figure stepped in. He was tall and was carrying a foodtray. As she saw it she couldn't help but smile. Then realizing it wasn't the right reaction. "What am I doing here?!" she asked. Getting up, she continued to ask questions. "And why? Why did you bring me here? Who are you..?!" she was confused. The figure kept quiet andlooked down. He stepped back and was about to close the door again, when he whispered: "I've been waiting.. and now it's my turn." The door closed and Tina could hear him locking it. This was pointless. She was stuck. And no one knew where, not even herself. She sighed and decided to stay alive atleast. She stuttered towards the tray and sat down to eat. Tears started filling her eyes.. and one dropped on the plate. Pride covered his face in his hands. He had been thinking all night what Tina must be doing.. If she was asleep, or maybe in trouble? It was killing him.. Not knowing and worrying got to his spirit and gave him a horrible migraine.. The pain made his eyes hurt, eventually his back and neck. It drove him crazy and he couldn't take it. Throwing himself on the bed, he took a tiny silver ring out from his pocket. it was Tina's. He actually stole it when she was asleep a few weeks ago.. To have something that would remind him of her. That ring gave him inspiration and he had an idea. He would go back.. Back to the city where it all started. He knew Tina wouldn't be really happy if he just showed up, but it was a risk he was willing to take. This was it. He was going to tell her. Quickly writing a note and packing his bag, he left the area. Like a shadow into the forest. Chapter 14 Few hours later at the Mall, things are getting dangerous. The Rebels were fighting at the entrance, trying desperately to get in, or even hurt the Chosen a bit. But it was no use.. There were hundreds of them, and they were all ready to fight till death. Bray looked around in the chaos. Where was Amber? He didn't see her anymore, even though she was just around one bunch of Chosen. As she fought a young Chosen guard, or whatever, right at the doors, she didn't notice an older boy creeping behind her back. She looked up only to see a a shining blade and a wicked smile on his face. Then SLASH! Her world was moving in slow motion.. The boy twisted the blade in her guts once and then ran away with the weapon. Eagle put her shivering hands on the wound, desperately trying to stop the bleeding. She gasped for breath and let out a little, barely hearable, cry of pain. Immidiately Bray turned in horror, only to see the kneeled and defeated Eagle, reaching for him. Her eyes looked at him blankly as she collapsed on the ground. Bray emerged the Gaians to keep the Chosen away from the area.. Then he couldn't see anything else anymore. He couldn't care less about the Chosen, as he saw his Amber like that. All was lost. Amber was dying.. He took her head on his hands and kissed her forehead gently. Blood was spurting out from her mouth and she took a deep breath ready to say something. Bray quickly whispered to her: "I love you.. Amber. I always have, you know that.. Don't leave me. Not again!" Eagle didn't see him. She moved her lips and whispered slowly, through the blood. "Mhh.. P-pride.. No!" Then one last twist and silence. Her hand stopped squeezing Bray's shoulder and her head fell to the side. The green eyes were now like glass. She couldn't see anymore. There was no Amber, nor Eagle to reply to the crying Bray calling her name and shaking her limp body. She was gone. The Gaians stood in a circle. They couldn't believe this. They've lost two leaders during the same lousy week. This was a day of complete chaos. They couldn't even think of living normally after this. Bray didn't hear their whispers. He looked defeated, not knowing what to do next. He stood up and lifted Eagle's body. "We.. we should barry her in the mountains." After those simple words, he left leading a queue of Gaians towards the forest, and then the mountains. Some Chosen guards stood watching this tragedy and turned away quickly when a Gaian glanced at them. Chapter 15 Bray and the Gaians walked slowly, their heads down. Few of them cried, few only sulked and looked at their feet, tears filling their eyes. Bray and three other guys carried Eagles limp body in their arms. Bray had trouble walking steadily because his vision was blurred. He sobbed and whispered gentle words in Eagles ears. They reached a hill that had a beatiful view, showing the ocean behind the mountains ahead. It was a perfect place.. "Let's put her here. Who'll dig the grave?" Bray asked quietly, not looking up, just staring at Eagle's pale face and her closed eyes. He sniffed and walked few steps back, letting some Gaians start digging. He sighed. Why did he always lose her? Eagle Mountain, now. Now he would never see her again.. Pride had reached the suburbs of the city. It was big. Much bigger than the Mall Rats' city. Memories filled his head. Bitter and sweet. The river where he saw Tina for the first time. She was there reading a book and enjoying the warm summer sun. She looked so beautiful, and a lot older than she really was. He had loved her ever since they spoke to each other for the first time.. It was an ackward conversation. They talked about school, of course. Even though they didn't go to same school. Afterall Pride was three years older. The moment was broken by a scream from the city. Pride thought it must be the new tribe that was ruling the city having another prisoner. He continued walking down the road. He must find her. There were things to tell her. Let her know the truth. Tina pounded the door furiously. She had to get out. It had been three days already without food. The creep had given her only water, but no food of anykind. Her stomach was making furious noises and it drove her wild.. She was ready to do anything, if she only got some food. "Open! Come on..! Tell me what you want?!" she had been yelling to the door for an hour and her voice was breaking already. Then her effort was rewarded. She heard a key turn in the lock and the boy came in. He didn't look happy. "What are you doing Tina? What are you trying to accomplish? This will get you nowhere." he said. She stared at his calm eyes. There was no frustration, no confusion, not even anger. He was like a robot. "Just tell me what do you want!!" she snapped. He stared at her and remained calm. And also quiet. So they stared for a while before Tina got bored and frustrated. Then she realized something. "How do you know my name..?" she asked cautiously. She had been way too busy being angry to notice details like that before. "Oh Tina.. You don't recognise me, do you? Well, I cannot blame you. Afterall, it's been quite a while.." he said, mainly to himself. Tina stirred her eyes, thinking. There was indeed something familiar about him, but she just couldn't place it. Then he slowly removed his weird hat, showing black shiny hair with silver streaks. His eyes had lots of eyeliner and he had two silver earrings in his left ear.. Tina gasped in horror. "Lollipop?!" she whispered, still trying to steady her racing heart. This was her best friend from summercamp five years ago. They had been unseparatable for the summer and a few months afterwards. He wasn't really called Lollipop, it was only a nickname.. He was actually called Oscar, but he didn't like the name. So to most people he was Oz, and to his best friend from camp, Lollipop. After Christmas five years ago, he had disappeared mysteriously. His parents had thought he was dead, but Tina never bought it. But soon she forgot all about him.. And now he was back. Changed a whole lot! He was very slim and actually quite handsome.. Not at all like the cute and childish Lollipop she used to play with. "Yep. Alive and kicking.." he smiled sarcastically. His eyes were still very light and calm. He was frightening Tina a bit, even though she knew he wouldn't hurt her.. Maybe. "But what happened..? Why?" she asked, stuttering. She was nervously pacing back and forth, while Lollipop stood quietly and observed her. He sighed and said: "I guess you should know.." He took off his black cloak and planted it on the chair outside the room. Then he sat down on the floor, leaning against the wall. He was obviously more comfortable now. This soothed Tina too and she slowly sat down. "I was visiting my dad at his job. I accidently heard him talking on the phone with someone.. They were talking about my mom and me. Dad said that he would be leaving us soon, because some man was after him. And that our lives were in danger. He said that maybe that creep would leave us alone if he got what he wanted. Him. So I ran away. It was too much for a kid my age.. I was nine! And there I was, hopelessly trying to figure out why I was about to be whiped out. Because of my dad and his mistakes. I ran away to ease the confusion. On the way I met this wanderer that told me about stuff. We became friends and I became a wanderer in the process too." He looked at Tina, his eyes a little softer now. She had been listening quietly, but now she spoke. "I'm sorry." They sat there, staring at each other, without a word. The ice was broken. Chapter 16 Tina and Lollipop talked a lot after the little episode. One day Tina had had enough of the cautious small-talk they had been having. She had to ask. "Lol, where am I?" The question didn't come as a surprise to him. He knew she would ask someday. He knew her too well, even after all this time. And it wasn't hard even without any kind of past.. Every prisoner would ask that. He looked down and murmured. "I shouldn't tell you.. Mainly cause this is a secret place." He stopped for a while, looking at Tina. Sighing, he continued. "Ok. You are in Hell." Tina's jaw dropped. The famous Executioners' HQ! The place where no one was supposed to return alive or with bodyparts still attached to their bodies. This frightened Tina a little.. Afterall, she didn't have a clue were they only rumors. Executioners were famous for their brutality and cruelty. They were ten times as bad as the Chosen in that departement.. She didn't believe Lollipop actually had something, anything, to do with them. "So what on earth are you doing here?! Are you captured too?" she tried to understand the news. He laughed a little, obviously humored. "Captured? Oh, they wouldn't dare.. I mean, capture their vicious leader would be kinda dangerous, don't you think?" he said, like it was nothing. Tina's jaw dropped and seemed to be falling off. She tried to find the words but failed. Leader? Leader of the Executioners?!? She definately didn't see that one coming.. But it also calmed her down, to know that their leader was her old friend.. She felt like she could breathe freely again. After a long time. Tina woke up early the next morning. She had to freshen up before their daily meeting with Lollipop. Or Silver Hawk, as his gang knew him. Tina couldn't help the giggle. From Lollipop to Silver Hawk.. Quite a change! But no matter what he had become, he would always be her dear Lollipop. In her heart he would always stay the same. The suddenly her little nostalgiamoment was interrupted. The door opened and the serious and robot-like Lollipop stepped in. As he came in and no one could see a grin came to his pretty face. "Good morning, my lady." He hugged Tina and kissed her on the cheek. Tina hadn't seen it coming, so she just stood in the middle of the room, surprised. He hadn't changed a bit, not in the inside atleast. "Lol! You're early today!" He suddenly turned serious. Uh oh. Bad news coming.. She knew it. And was right. "My invincible troops captured yet another innocent soul on their way.." he joked about it. Tina hoped it was all, but oh no! "And in the process he got wounded." Lollipop looked down. Inside his hard and cruel shell there was a gentle and kind person, who regretted the incident. He felt sorry for the prisoner. So did Tina. He hugged Lollipop gently and whispered: "Now you'll just have to cure him. Do your best atleast.. He deserves it." she stated firmly, yet kindly. That was her speciality. Lollipop looked sadly in her eyes. He nodded quietly. "I better figure something out, to disguise my helping hand.. Gotta live up to my reputition." He smiled a little. Tina squeezed his hand and was happy. Lollipop hadn't changed into some murderer who enjoyed to watch people die. He was just lost, that's all. That's what she told herself.. She had to keep optimistic. Lollipop gave a quick peck on her cheek before stomping off. He waved at her and disappeared to the dark hallway again. Tina fell to the floor sighing. If only she could help him and get him out of this thing. Out of this whole picture.. It didn't suit him. Chapter 17 Days rolled by extremely slowly. Tina was frustrated, hot and tired of sitting in one place all the time. Last night was especially uncomfortable cause some of the guards took her blanket and matresse out of the cell just to tease her. It pissed her off bad, and for hours she just screamed and banged the door. And now it was morning. She had slept less than three hours and it showed. Then she heard footsteps. She was too tired to stand up though.. Fighting or escaping wasn't an option at the moment. "Get up." A girl came in with heavy looking chains and waved them infront of her. Slowly she managed to stand up and stay up. The girl smiled wickedly and said: "Now don't do anything stupid or you'll be punished." The smile was gone and she took a knife from her belt and showed it as a warning. She put it back and started to adjust a heavy metal collar on her. A chain was attached to it so there was no way she could escape. The girl put the small key to her pocket and took the chain. "Come on now. And remember.. don't try anything stupid." She handed the chain to a guard who lead Tina to a little yard. The went through a dark corridor that had a wooden door at the end. She hadn't seen light in a long time. It had been hard to know what time of the day it was in the tiny cell. She noticed many other prisoners that had collars just like hers. They were all hooked up to a wall. The guard said something and pointed at a corner infront of her. She went there and cautiously sat down. Her chain was hooked up to the wall as the other prisoners'. She sighed. Was this how her life would be after.. two years? What about after 10? It was hopeless. She looked around.. All the others looked as miserable as she was. She spotted a blond girl with white clothes in a corner opposite to her. It was her old neighbour! Could she yell? Would the guards mind..? And most importantly.. would she be punished?! She had to get her attention.. Somehow she had to get the girl notice her. Tina tried to think.. Then she started coughing. First a few times, then a little louder. But the girl remained still and her head down. This was pointless.. Tina sighed and decided to give up. What would she even do? Smile? Or maybe wave at her..? She most surtainely wouldn't get away with that. Pride stared at the boy. He looked at him viciously and took one step closer. He waved his hand an a quite large boy came from behind him and walked towards Pride. Oh no. They weren't just some usual bullyboys, they ment it. Pride quickly turned around and ran. He heard yells from behind and ran as fast as he could. If he could get to the next alley, he would be safe.. There were lots of places to hide, or get through. He crossed the street, the gang following closely. He looked back and saw all of them running and the leader grinned wickedly. He obviously wasn't a couch potato.. unfortunately for Pride. The alley was near.. Only few metres and he would be safe for a while. He tried the door of a restaurant kitchen. Closed. The next door was just around the corner, but he wasn't sure if he could run that far, because the gang was catching up. Then someone grabbed his shoulder and jumped on him. This was it. He was finished.. The gang chained him up and knocked him out. There was nothing to do anymore. What Pride didn't see, was a pair of really sad eyes peeking around the corner. Then the figure quickly ran back to the other side of the street. Chapter 18 The first thing Pride noticed when he woke up, was that he was locked up. He heard faint sounds behind the door. Screaming and then silence again. What was this? Some kind of concentrationcamp?! He was chained and hooked to the wall, so he couldn't get to the door.. or even stand up! Suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his head. He moved his hand, hoping they weren't chained.. Damn. No luck. He was trapped and there wasn't any exits. Then someone was opening the lock. He heard a girl's voice saying something but he couldn't hear her exact words. "Hawk is getting .. The gang is falling apart .. I can't just .. Get .. Tell the others." Then Pride saw her come in. She was quite tall and had jeans and a long leatherjacket. She would be pretty, if she hadn't so mean look on her face. She stared at Pride and laughed a little. "How did you end up here?" she asked not looking at him anymore. She took a bag from outside the cell and seemed to be searching for something. "Shit! Where is it..?" she sweared to herself. Then grinning she took a key from a little pocket. "Now we can go out.. and play!" she smiled sarcastically. Pride just stared at her with a murdering look. "Fine. And don't try anything.." she warned him, the same way she warned Tina a while ago. Pulling Pride behind her, she headed towards the small yard. Tina had been sitting on the same corner for ages. This was no better than sitting in a tiny cell.. It was almost worse. And the Executioner-gang knew it. It was their way of killing all hope.. And it was working. Tina sighed for the fiftieth time and looked around. Everyone were in the same little spots. And they were bringing more prisoners. She watched as the door opened and almost screamed. She felt her heart stop and then beat extra. Pride! As prisoner, just as hopeless as she was.. Probably locked in one of those horrible cells as she was.. She felt as tears ran on her cheeks and her vision blurred. She wanted to yell, wanted to say something. She needed him beside her. Days had been sheer horror as she had been thinking about him so often. She longed to be with him. And now she had the chance.. Though not in a way she had wished for. Pride kept his head down and walked calmly to the wall. The same girl who had brought Tina out, was now hooking him to the grey wall. Pride still didn't look up, but obviously sensed someone staring at him. He looked up and was just as terrified and surprised as Tina had been a while ago. His eyes were sad and he couldn't smile. He just stared, and Tina stared back. She couldn't take it and soon bursted into tears. Pride also looked down. They had no hope. Not anymore as the Executioners had taken the only thing they had away from them. Chapter 19 Lollipop paced back and forth in his private room. The walls were painted black and just about everything else in the room was also black or silver. In dim candlelight he sighed and sat down. He was startled as the door swung open and the same "chaingirl" stomped in. "Katie? What are you doing here?" he asked a little angry for the non-existent respect for his privacy. He stood up and faced the girl. Although he wasn't that much taller, she backed off a bit. "Hawk, there's a problem at the Corridor." "Has someone tried to escape?" "No. There's just a problem.." she avoided. "Well can't you even tell me what is it?! After invading here like you own the fucking place!" he snapped at her. trying to hold her temper, she whispered that a guard had tried to rape one prisoner and was holding a knife to her throat at the moment. Lollipop rolled his eyes, frustrated and left the room. Katie stood in the same spot, smiling wickedly. Soon she turned around and hurried after him. Lollipop entered the Corridor, puzzeled. There was nothing going on. He scratched his head and the suspicion started to build up. He turned as he heard faint footsteps. "What is this? Why am I here for nothing?!" he snapped and grabbed Katie's arm. She bursted into a wild laughter that reminded Lollipop of a madman. She whitled and the narrow hallway was filled with young men and women, all part of the gang. Lollipop was still lost and couldn't find the words.. "What the..?" he mumbled. Katie didn't wait anymore. "Kay, Rob and Terri. Cuff him." Lollipop now got the point and quickly slipped a knife from his belt. He stared at the guards and moved the knife around protectively. He didn't see any point on fighting, but there was no way he would just give in. No fucking chance! He had to run. Fortunately he knew a lot more about the building than Katie or anyone else. Then a thought came up. Tina! They would kill her.. She must be saved as there wasn't anything else to be done. He threw the knife towards the guards and it hit one guy on the shoulder. He moaned in pain, but no one stayed around to help the poor thing. Some even pushed him cruelly aside as they made their way after their ex-leader. Lollipop ran like the wind, he quickly got to Tina's celldoor. He yelled at her: "Tina! Get up! We're out!" Tina woke up rapidly and was in an awe. What the hell was going on? Why were they going? And where? She hadn't any objections on taking a hike from the place though, but it just made her wonder. Soon Lollipop's head peeked from the door and he pulled Tina with her. And they ran! Tina was soon out of breath, since she hadn't moved around lately. She stumbled but Lollipop kept dragging her with him. Wait.. If they were going, shouldn't they save the others also? Then it hit her! Pride! Oh no.. Where was he..? She accidently scratched Lollipop's hand quite badly and as he looked back, he saw Tina's desperate face. He shouted as he ran: "Is something wrong? I know it's tough but you can't stay.. You'd die!" They both alomst fell as a staircase suddenly appeared right infront of them. Lollipop got safely down with only few leaps, but Tina had a hard time keeping up. She fell and hurt her ankle. "Augh!!" she yelled. Lollipop heard this but couldn't stop. He hated himself for that, but he had to get out. It was a matter of survival, a right to live. He spotted an axe and a pistol laying on the bed of one of the soldiers rooms. He smiled relieved and picked them up. Then he stormed back to help Tina, this time ready to kill. He saw some soldiers or guards taking Tina away. He amed the gun and fired. Immidiately one of them lumped to the floor, leaving the other one lost and scared. Tina took in advantage of the situation and kicked the soldier between his legs. She limped towards Lollipop who was smiling. "Way to go.." he laughed. Tina still looked scared and desperate. "Pride.. I cannot.. Save him." she stuttered. Lollipop tried to understand what she was talking about but didn't quite get it. "Who? A prisoner, here?" "Here.. Somewhere." Lollipop thought hard but was just as lost as Tina. "I don't deal with the prisoners, Katie does.. I'm sorry. We must go! NOW!" He dragged the crying Tina away. They stormed from a fire exit at the end of one hallway. Tina stirred her eyes because the bright sunlight shone right towards her. She was still limping, crying and holding on to Lollipop tightly. She couldn't believe it. She finally got out, but on the process lost Pride.. Probably for good. Katie and her new gang would maybe torture or even kill the prisoners. It was a deadend. And she couldn't turn back and start over. Chapter 20 Pride heard noises from the corridor. There was a chaos going on, and there was no stop to it. He heard someone yell Tina. He immediately shot up and emerged to the door. Fortunately the chains and cuffs were gone, but still there was the damn metaldoor. He had tried to get it open, but it was a mission impossible without a key.. First someone ran past his cell, then a whole bunch of people. Knifes scratched the walls and some people fell or were ran over. What were these people? Then a loud noise cut through the air. Someone must have fired a gun. He hoped that Tina was still okay.. Then someone started opening his door. Slowly it opened.. Pride found himself staring into a girl's eyes. She was a little frightened, but remained calm. She gave Pride a little smile before running off. Pride's jaw dropped. This was too easy. It must be a trap.. Though the girl looked sincere. He carefully took few steps. He was out. Just like that.. Oh, what the heck. He might just as well make the best of it. So he quietly, tiptoeing made his way towards a door. He wasn't going to miss this chance. Tina barely felt her legs anymore and her shoes were soaking wet. It had started raining a minute after they sprung to freedom from Hell. Lollipop seemed to know where he was heading but still Tina sensed a doubt in his actions as he stopped every once in a while to look around. She didn't even mind anymore. Pride was in serious danger. She couldn't just enjoy life and jump around like a child.. She kept wondering why had he come to this city. He was supposed to cuddle with Eagle and fight the Chosen together, Tina thought sarcastically and sighed as Lollipop stopped again. "You have no idea don't you?" she said. He smiled ackwardly and embarrassed. "..No." They looked at each other, both trying to make the other feel better, but only didn't know how. Tina settled for a barely noticable smile, which looked more like a frown. She scoped the area and noticed a familiar building a few houses from them. She jerked his sleeve and pointed at the building. Lollipop didn't quite follow and stared at it in awe, as a big questionmark. She runned towards it laughing. "The library! I know it! I know where we are!" she yelled to him. "Well come on..!" she exclaimed turning to face him. They both smiled and Tina started running in the street in circles, happy to have succes at least in something. She had planned that they could crash at her old school. It was the only place where people wouldn't go so anxiously. Then a dark cloud reached her head again. She thought about Pride, where he was at the moment and was he alright. The nightmare continued.. Pride walked slowly at the street. It was dusk and he still was wandering. He didn't know these parts of the city and couldn't just buy a map or take a bus or anything. It was difficult to navigate when everything was so different, changed for the worse. Houses were unrecogniseble, shops robbed and buses turned up side down. He headed towards the suburbs, hoping to find a quiet place to sleep in. The streets were wet and water was flowing in tiny streems downhill. Actually this was a beautiful day, besides that he had lost Tina and was on a run from the gang. He turned to a little park on his left. The path was muddy and his boots stuck to it. As he turned away from the path to walk on the grass, he noticed footsteps in the mud. Small and huge. Joy filled his mind and thoughts. It must be Tina and the gangleader! He smiled to himself and followed the steps feeling much better and finding the hope again. Tiptoeing across the almost empty classroom, Tina opened the door, desperately trying not to wake Lollipop. She quietly made her way to the mainentrance and opened it. Cold air brushed her face and made her shiver slightly. The night was beautiful with a fullmoon and everything. She looked at the stars and smiled. It was so peaceful and quiet.. She could almost feel the moonlight and the mist around her. It was wonderful. Snapping from her trance she closed the door, cautiosly. She took an old bike which was leaning to the wall near by. It was the fastest transport there was.. Quickly she got on it and drove away to the night. Chapter 21 Leaning on her palm she lazyly looked around. The same dark and heavily smoky room had now been dublicated after ten or so drinks. Smiling a little as the bartender gave her yet another vodkashot, she took literally the expression 'bottoms up'. She frowned as the strong liquid went down her throat. Playing with her lipring, she looked around again. She saw a tall and muscular boy grin at her. Her instinct said to grin back so she did, not knowing the consequences.. The guy grabbed around her waist and dragged her outside. Tina, who was really drunk, didn't see anything bad or suspicious about this.. so she happily went along. "Wh..(hic) where are whe.. (hic) going?" she stuttered hiccuping the same time. The guy put his hand on her mouth and said between his teeth. "Not a word, okay? Just, not a single word." he dragged her along the street. Tina was obviously starting to sober up, and the suspicion built inside her quickly. "Come on.. let me go! Let go..!" She was struggling out of his firm grip. But unfortunately he was way too strong. They turned left and she was taken to a little room behind one locked door. She started screaming desperately, fearing history would repeat itself but the boy slapped her on the face. Pain in her cheek was enourmous but she kept screaming and struggling. Got to get out, got to get out! She was fighting and scratching the boy's face and arms. She bit his wrist so hard as she could, soon tasting the blood in her mouth. She let go, the sudden injury had got the boy's attention, so she managed to get off from the bed he had pushed her into. She made her way towards the door, when the boy grabbed her shoulder and threw her to the corner as she was some leaf. She must of hit her head to the stonewall, because her vision blurred and she couldn't hear accurately anymore. She drifted into a peaceful world, where nothing bad could happen.. "NOOOOO!!!" Screaming as loud as her lungs let her, she jumped up. Soon the pain started to have it's affect, making her lump back on the ground. She saw that her clothes were ripped and her black stockings were all around the floor. She whispered words of unbelief. Dried blood was all over her thies and knees, she also saw wounds in her legs.. Her headache was nothing compared to the pain she had in her soul. The feeling of despair and horror. It burned her from inside, leaving nasty scars. How could she ever trust? How could she ever be close to anyone? This was much scarier than the nightmare she had had. Tears streaming down her cheeks, she picked her boots and ripped stockings up from the floor and stood up. She slowly walked towards the door and tried the handle. Locked?! No, this couldn't be happening.. Wildly banging the door and kicking it, she suddenly noticed a window on the side. Her heart kept beating hard and she opened the small window. It was covered with spiderwebs that kept sticking to her face. She quickly swept them off, fighting to get out of the window. She fell to the hard ground under, hitting her head again. The pain wasn't important in that situation so she didn't mind and ran away.. Crying and crying, she ran and could almost feel someone's hot breath on her neck. The fear filled her mind and she ran even faster. She ran for her life. Chapter 22 [Lollipop's POV] Well, I was worried sick for her, but when I saw her running across the yard out of breath and crying.. It was like I had been abused and raped aswell. I ached just as she did, cried quietly when she wasn't looking and searched for comfort in her as she did in me.. She wept against my shoulder and I felt like hell when she told what happened. The fights I fought as an Executioner were nothing compared to the will to have revenge and kill the son of a bitch! I had always been a fierce nature but now I was boiling and my guts were burning of hate. Tina suddenly struggeled from me and ran towards the bathroom. She must of been drinking and the creep took advantage of her situation.. I had to bite my lip, so I wouldn't scream. Tina couldn't even remember if the lame excuse for a man had used a rubber, so it looked even worse! I walked to the toilet when I heard that she had stopped throwing up. Her skin was pale and she had black pags under her tired eyes. Her top had been ripped so she was shivering. I wrapped my arm around her and tried to comfort her as she cried her heart out, but how could I? I was on the edge of bursting to bitter tears myself.. I was in condition to make someone else feel better. --- At the same time, elsewhere.. In the Gaian camp, the members of the tribe were quiet. They had just lost their leader and also Pride, who kept them together. They were frightened, didn't have a clue, what the future might bring. They were also frightened of Bray, who had completely lost it. He had stopped talking. Almost completely, the only words he said were 'Amber' and 'Danni'. The Gaians didn't know who the other person was, so it got even more frustrating to be around him. Soon, Bray locked himself up in Eagle's cabin for days. When he got out, his skin was completely white.. The Gaians didn't know if it was make-up or just paleness. Strange.. Again he locked himself up there, after walking in the woods for some minutes, then rushing back. He kept repeating the words: 'Amber, Amber, dead.. no no no.. Alive. She must be alive. Amber' It was getting weirder and weirder all the time. The Gaians even concidered throwing him out but thought Eagle wouldn't approve it, so the plan was thrown away with the garbage. After some silent hours, Bray shocked everyone. He slowly opened the cabin's door and stepped out. The Gaians who were close, turned to see and most of their eyes almost popped out. Bray was wearing Zulu-knots and feathers! He had obviously been crying and his eyes were red as a tomato. His eyes kept staring forward and he stepped out and took his bag from the floor. Silently walking towards the woods, he left the camp.. leaving everyone puzzled and quite amused. Bray walked through the bushes and saw the grave. He kneeled down to the headstone and buried his face on his hands.. "Amber.." The silence was broken by a faint thump, and then nothing moved. The next morning Tina woke up even before sunrise. She tossed and turned in her sleepingbag, but couldn't sleep anymore. frustrated, she got up and put her clothes on. She sat on a chair by the window looking out. It was going to be misty and cold that day. Summer was ending.. She opened the large window and lit a cigarette. She stared at the sky and listened as it started raining. Suddenly there was a noise that came just around the corner. She stretched out of the window but didn't see or hear anything. Then she heard footsteps. This wasn't her imagination anymore! She could feel her heart racing as the steps got closer.. Tina took a knife from her bag. Lollipop had given it to her, for protection. Still hanging out of the window she stared the corner anxiously. At the same time she was scared that it was someone she didn't want to see.. Someone that would hurt her. All these fears were brushed away as she saw Pride walking from the woods carrying a large bag. She felt tears burning her eyes and her heart almost stopped beating. Dropping her cigarette and climbing out of the window, not minding whether she was wearing footwear or not, she shouted over the heavy rain: "Pride?!" Startled by someone calling him, he looked at Tina. He hadn't noticed her before, so the surprise was kinda big. He smiled and ran to her, taking her in his arms. She cried, this time out of happiness. She hadn't done that in a long time. Ever since the virus, she hadn't had anything to be glad about. And now they just stood there, happy that the other was there for them. Finally.. Chapter 23 [Lollipop's POV] There they were. Sitting opposite to each other, smiling. I had to get away from there.. It had been going on for days and whatever they did, they had to kept gazing. I was going nuts hanging around them, so I took off. Not for long, I mean I just couldn't leave them by themselves. Fortunately food wasn't an issue at the mo, because the guy, Pride, had brought a bag full of tins and all other stuff. But after seeing them sitting his arms around her I didn't think it was that good afterall. Now I had no excuse to leave.. My feelings kept pulling me back there though. I had fell in love. God, I was becoming soft.. Though I didn't mind. It was better than fighting all the time and giving orders. Tina had pulled me away from all that shit. She had understood, not once did she ask why.. She knew already. Afterall, we had been best friends for a long time. Inseparatable even. Now, I couldn't even look at her without feeling uneasy. And lonely. I had grown to hate their love. --- Silence. Complete silence. No one spoke, or even moved. Lollipop felt sad and desperate. He couldn't keep watching them. It was too damn hard.. He stood up and broke the silence. "I'll take off now. Take care." He forced a smile and grabbed his leatherjacket from a chair and walked away. After the door was closed, Tina realized what just had happened. She quickly stood up and looked lost. What should she do? What was going on? She ran to the door and opened it fiercly. The hallway was empty. She called his name but only the echo answered. She ran to the door of his room. It was open. Tina pushed it aside only to find an empty and dark room. He had moved everything back to their places. She looked out of the window and saw a figure walking away through the bushes. Quickly she ran after him, hoping she could stop him and make him come back. The wind brushed through her long hair when she ran. She felt cold, but couldn't give a damn. Tina exclaimed desperately: "Lollipop! Please! Don't go.." She was out of breath and had to stop. He turned around and she could see his eyes fill with tears. Tina watched in amazement as the first drop rolled down his cheek. He was the last person she would expect to cry. She stepped closer and tried to hug him, but he pushed her away. "Don't." he said firmly. She was even more surprised. "Don't do this. It won't do any good.. I'll leave if I want to. There's no way you're gonna get me turn back. Get me back to being a meaningless piece of the landscape in your pretty little dreamworld. I don't do dreamworlds. They're fluffy.. So just let go!" "You're my best friend.. I can't just let go! And you're not meaningless!!" she exclaimed back. "Oh, don't be naive Tina. It doesn't suit you.." He continued. "And even if I did stay, you'd forget all of this in a second. That's what that Pride does to you. You lose all sense reality. The moment you look at him you're already heading for the dreamworld." he said coldly. At this point tears were streaming down Tina's cheeks. "I love him.. I always have. And I almost lost him. Can't I be happy for a change?! Is it so wrong to feel happy? For God's sake Lollipop!! You can't say I'm not allowed to be happy if you're not! After all I've been through, I'm not allowed to love? To feel some joy?! You aren't the same Lollipop I used to know.. You've changed. And I can't say for the better!" she yelled. She was hurting inside. All the bad memories came to her again and she started to cry uncontrollably. He watched her barry her face in her hands. It hurt him too, but he couldn't give in now. He must get rid of the feelings. Otherwise he would be as good as dead. They made him soft and dreamy. Those feature's weren't actually necessary for survival.. He left Tina crying on the cold ground and walked off, fighting not to cry. Chapter 24 Tina must have fallen asleep. She felt a hand on her shoulder and immidiately woke up ready to fight. Her frightened eyes stared at the figure infront of her. "Pride.." she sighed, reliefed. He smiled and helped her up. "You want to tell me what happened?" he asked. Tina looked down and sniffed. "He left. For good. I can't believe it.." she explained. They walked towards the school again, Tina feeling down and betrayed. She didn't know what to do, it was a too sudden move. And she was left in awe. She went to her room and changed her clothes and shoes. But when she opened her bag, she saw a little white piece of paper. A note.. From Lollipop? Anxiously she started to read.. Dear Tina, I know you don't get it, but I promise it's nothing personal. Well, actually it is, but not your fault. Not at all. You brought me to the light again, you helped me out of the darkness of my own mind. I'm sorry I have to confuse and even hurt you, but this must be done. I just had to go. You see, you didn't only help me, you stole my heart. And as you might know, my heart has always stayed in the same place, and this sudden love for you just messed me up. I had no choice but to leave and ease my confusion. I truly am sorry. -Lollipop. She stared at the note. He loved her? And he found no other way but to leave..? This was horrible. How could she go on, knowing he was hurting. Because of her. "Oh God.." she sighed and sat down on the floor. Couldn't her life ever settle down? Pride knocked on her door and opened it. She lived in a small and dark classroom that was well hidden in a corner. She looked up and smiled. He had brought her food. "I'm not really hungry.." she tried to convince him. He just smiled and gave her an apple. "You're not fooling me.. Eat." Rolling her eyes, she took a bite. Oh God, how she loved him. The forest was misty and he could barely see. The trees' branches reached for him, as trying to stop him and turn him around. Lollipop kept going, no matter how uneasy he felt. Soon he would reach the coast and could camp there. He rubbed his eyes tiredly. It had been a too long day. Hours went by and he kept going. Finally he pushed the final branch aside and saw the ocean glimmer far ahead. It could only get better from here, he told himself, desperately trying to be convinced. He stomped towards the cliff. The view was awesome. Quietly he sat down and smiled to the sunset. His destiny was somewhere overthere. Somewhere waiting. Ad he would find it and be happy. The sun went down leaving the sky purple and blue. The End. |
