Zoot/Martin Zoot is (was) the leader of the evil Locusts. Younger brother to the "wonderful" Bray, he turned into Zoot when he realised that Trudy had only slept with him to get back at Bray. Already upset by the death of his parents, Trudy's betrayal was the last straw. He started his Tribe, The Locusts, along with Ebony, whom he had also known at school. He coined the phrase "Power and Chaos", and this became first the Locos motto and then that of the Chosen. Zoot was a brilliant leader and an inspired visionary but sadly his reign over the city was brief. (His vision was also a bit dubious) He had somewhat strange ways of keeping friends, as Ebony found out when he locked her in the cupboard. He was confused, hurt and bitter, but he was not entirely bad and if he had stayed with Trudy in the Mall he might have turned back into Martin. Then again considering Trudy's behaviour where Bray was concerned he might not have done. His Tribe really looked up to him, and they would not do anything without his consent. The most common sight in the city in those days was of Zoot and the Locusts going through the streets in their police car.
Martin was another kettle of fish altogether. He was a nice, gentle, innocent boy. His only vice was that he hated Bray. He seemed to think that Bray always got there first, and did it better. That was why when Trudy, the girl of his dreams, turned him down for Bray, he snapped. Together with Ebony, (incidentally Bray's old girlfriend) he started up the Locos and they pillaged the city, terrorising its inhabitants. The Locos were feared by all, and the train yards where they had their base was avoided by the faint-hearted. Actually it was avoided by everyone except Bray, who sometimes went there to see Zoot. It was here that Bray told him that Trudy had had his baby, and Zoot agreed to go to the Mall with him one night to see her. |

In the middle of the night Bray lead him to the Mall and there Bray put Brady in his arms and informed him that she was his daughter. At first Zoot was doubtful that he was the father but Trudy persuaded him that he was, and she and Bray begged him to stay with Brady. While he hesitated, Lex came on the scene and saw him there. Handing Brady back, Zoot ran for the stairs persued by Lex and Bray. When they lost him, Lex turned on Bray but when he started to beat him up Zoot emerged, saying, "Leave him be! You want a fight, fight me!" (This proves that he was still Martin deep down inside and that he had his good side) As Zoot rushed at Lex, Lex ducked and Zoot went flying over the banister, falling to his death. He was given a warrior's funeral, sent out to sea on a burning boat. The following quotes on Zoot and Martin were taken from Tribeworld: "Martin is virtually a completely different person to Zoot/Martin is much more innocent and definitely less streetwise than Zoot." "Zoot was definitely a dreamer as he believed that one day he would rule the world. He was far from innocent though and always distrustful" Zoot does not in any way believe in democracy and I think he is the kind of person that would say "mate, it's my way, or the highway" I think that even though Zoot was a bad boy people knew that he had a vulnerable side too and that he was just on the wrong side of the track. But at least he was fighting for what he believed in! ZOOT...twisted, confused, convincing, angry, rebellious. |
