La Paz

The temperature and sun in La Paz soon became more than John could bear, so after Paul left we moved to Marina Costa Baha where they have electrical power to run our sewing machine and make a sun awning. The marina is a few miles North of La Paz but has free buses into town several times a day. We've spent many days in the city and really enjoy it. La Paz is sometimes described as a 'black hole' - one of those heavenly places with an irresistable attraction that makes it very difficult to leave. More on the city later.

This is a picture of the marina from the hills just behind it. La Paz is in the distance above the circular area in the marina. You can just make out the El Mogote peninsula above the outer basin of the marina. The anchorage and marinas are between the city and El Mogote.

This is a palapa on the hillside where we took the marina photograph. It had a very attractive roof structure and concrete benches and a concrete bar which remained quite cool in the heat of the day. I think it was built there to show off the view for a new housing development.

The vegetation was rather novel for us. Knots of cactus everywhere, some of them even flowering. There were also bushes but few had any signs of leaves. Most are probably dormant for the hot summer months.

Rays seem to abound and one of our neighbors was even injured by a stingray in the water off the marina beach. It seems to be a part of life around here. These two were performing some elegant aquabatics, probably courting. The video may take a while to load, but it is charming.
