Traditions - PUMPKINS: Cliff is quite proud of his pumpkin carving achievement but Clair insists that it go in the corner so Vanessa's party will seem more mature. Cliff: "Now this is a serious pumpkin. Look at that face, hunh...Got a smile with just a hint of tragedy. Inside-hollow, yet deep."

Traditions - DECORATING: Clair and Cliff decorate for Vanessa's Halloween party, around the house you see pumpkins, corn, gourds, spiders, garland, a Happy Halloween banner, vampire, scarecrows, a ghost, bats and skeletons.

Traditions - PARTY: Now that she's too old for trick or treating, Vanessa throws a Halloween party for her 7th grade classmates. Clair: "Vanessa doesn't want this to be a kids party, you know, I really think she wants it to look more adult." Cliff (regarding his carved pumpkin): "Well why don't I take it upstairs and put a suit and hat on it."

Costumes - Costumes - Rudy dresses as a big orange pumpkin.

Quip - Cliff: "Whoa, where are you going, to a wedding!!??" Rudy: "No. Trick or Treating!!" Cliff: "Trick or Treating? What's that?" Rudy: "It's when you dress up and you get a lot of candy!" Cliff: "Oh! When did they start this?" Rudy: "When I was three!!"

Traditions - TRICK OR TREATING: Cliff is the designated grown up to take Rudy and her friends trick or treating, something he didn't have a problem with until Rudy picked out his costume. Clair: "Cliff why can't you get into the spirit of this thing-this is very important to Rudy. You might even like trick or treating." Cliff: "Trick or treating?" Clair: "Yes." Cliff: "Why don't you just call it what it is-begging. You get the little children all dressed up and by the time they get to the 10th house they don't even put the bag out anymore-they just say 'just give me what you have' and thats it and they're gone."

Quip - Clair: "I remember a boy that was still trick or treating when he was 15. All the other kids were half your size, you'd get to the door, reach right over them and put your bag up front. And the day after Halloween had the nerve to go around the neighborhood knocking on each door begging 'what have you got left?'" Cliff: "And that's when your parents gave me you."

Costumes - Katie dresses up like a construction worker.

Costumes - Peter is a pirate with a bird on his shoulder.

Costumes - Vanessa wears a traditional African dress.

Costumes - Rudy dresses Cliff as the wicked witch of the clowns. Clair: "You are such a (kisses him) sport for wearing this! Cliff: "I'd be a bigger sport if I see you wearing that later tonight."

Quip - Rudy, Peter and Katie (singing): "Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat! If you don't, I don't care, I pull down your underwear!" Cliff: "I don't think that's an appropriate song."

Costumes - Robert dresses as a phantom/vampire guy.

Costumes - Scott dresses as a saloon bartender(?)

Costumes - Denise dresses as Cleopatra.

Costumes - Theo dresses as a leopard super hero guy(?)

Quip - Cliff: "We've decided to move the party up to this room here. You mom's going to put on the music for you and you can all hang out here and party. But I don't want anybody on any of these beds in the horizontal position."

Other costumes seen through the episode include - Since most of the kids are dressed in 80's fashions, I am guessing they are famous singers so, Maddonna, Cindy Lauper, Boy George, Bruce Springstien and Michael Jackson then there is an Indian, a karate kid and a baseball player.

| | Dialogue To Die For | |

Vanessa: "Can you believe that my mom wanted me to bring Robert Foreman punch? If I did that, he might think I like him!"
Janet:"But you do!"

Vanessa: "Yes, but, I don't want him to know that unless I know that he likes me first."

Clair: "I remember when she wouldn't even let a boy get next to her."
Cliff: "And now-that's my job."

| | Pop! Goes the Culture | |

Character: Clair's Costume - Tina Turner
Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock 11/26/1939) is a singer who is best known for her overpowering stage presence: long legs, big hair and a powerful voice. She performed with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue through the 1960s and much of the 1970s but left when Ike whom she was married to became increasingly abusive. In the mid 1980s she made a remarkable comeback as a solo artist with her biggest hit, 'What's Love Got to Do With It'.

Character: Denise's Costume - Cleopatra
Cleopatra VII Philopator was the queen of ancient Egypt and the last member of the Macedonian Ptolemaic dynasty to rule Egypt. She is famous for her romances with Julius Caesar with whom she had one child and Mark Anthony with whom she had three. The name Cleopatra is Greek for 'father's glory'.

| | Goofs, Gaffes and Nitpicks | |

It's not really a goof, but poor little Keshia kept falling over in her big bulky costume.

When Robert grabs Scott's shirt, Scott hits the wall and it moves backwards about an inch.

Lisa Bonet stared as Justine in the 1985 Tales from the Darkside episode, 'The Satanic Piano'.
