Bread Mixture*--Mix all ingredients of bread mixture. Pour 1 cup chili into casserole. Over this, spread thin layer of corn meal mixture. Place in 450-degree oven. When cornbread mixture is done, but not brown, remove from oven. Pour over another cup chili; spread another layer of cornbread mixture. Let cook. Repeat procedure until casserole dish is filled. Sprinkle with grated cheese. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
NOTE: Fritos or taco chips may be substituted for the bread mixture, but it won't taste like Mama's.
