CHOCOLATE FRIED PIES

(From the Kitchen of Evonne B. Phillips)

Dough:
2 cups self-rising flour
1 egg
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk or water

Filling for each pie:
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cocoa
1 teaspoon butter
1/3 tsp. vanilla
1/8 teaspoon of salt

Mix all dough ingredients well.
Pinch off egg-size or larger piece of dough
and roll out (on a floured surface to about 1/8" thickness).
Use a saucer or something round of a similar size
to use as a guide to cut the circle
from the dough for the pie.

Mix dry ingredients of filling well and sprinkle
on the rolled-out dough.
Put butter and vanilla on the dry ingredients.
Fold over, seal with fingers or press down
with tines of a fork.
Fry in about 1" of hot oil, turning to brown both sides.
