Buddhism teaches Bushido the concept of Nirvana. Through the idea of a higher level of thought, an enlightenment beyond description, Samurai learn not to fear death or pain. The assurance of Buddhist reincarnation allows Samurai to live life without the fear of danger.
Confucianist teachings contribute the idea of duty and honor. They learn the importance of the qualities between each of these relationships: master and servant, father and son, husband and wife, older and younger brother, and friend and friend. These five relationships are representative of the Bushido ideas of respect and responsibility.
