The once beautiful land of Hyrule has been desolated, as the dark prince Ganon tightens his group on the land. The people of Hyrule have taken to living in caves to escape the evil monsters that roam around. Ganon has managed to steal a piece of the Triforce, the Triforce of Courage. Worrying that Ganon might obtain the entire Triforce, Princess Zelda broke her piece of the Triforce, the Triforce of Wisdom, into eight pieces. She is barely able to do this before she is captured by Ganon. Her guardian, Impa, races off in search of a brave hero to rescue the Princess, until one day she finds herself surrounded by monsters. A brave young lad comes to the rescue, and fights the monsters off.

Impa tells this youth, whose name is Link, what has happened. Link vows that he will rescue the princess and defeat the evil Ganon. He sets out on his quest, going deep into dungeons full of evil monsters, in his quest to save Hyrule.
