WALKTHROUGH

Here is a complete walkthrough for the game of Zelda. Be warned that it may contain spoilers, so if you haven't won and you want to figure things out yourself, click here. Also, this walkthrough is under construction, so it is not entirely finished.

KOKIRI FOREST

When you start the game, leave your house and head for the Kokiri Training Ground – this is the place in Kokiri Forest with a small hole, a couple of rocks, and some bushes. Go in front of the hole and press A. Now, go through the hole. Follow the path, while avoiding the boulder, until you reach a treasure chest. Open it to obtain the Kokiri Sword.

Now, go out into Kokiri Forest. Get as many rupees as possible by chopping plants, chucking rocks, jumping across the stumps in the pond, opening the chests in Mido’s house, running through thick grass – anything you can to get 40 rupees. Then go to the Kokiri Shop (just across the stumps in the pond) and buy a Deku Shield.

Now, with your sword and shield, go to Mido, who is blocking the path to the Great Deku Tree. However, with your sword and shield, he will let you pass. Now follow the path. There will be some Deku Babas – slash them with your sword to get deku sticks. At the end of the path is the Great Deku Tree. After talking to him, he will open his mouth. Now enter.

INSIDE THE DEKU TREE

Once you have entered the Deku Tree entrance, climb the ladder in front of you and to the left. Now follow in a clockwise direction until you find a large treasure chest. Open it to get the map.

Now, continue along the path until you get to a door. Open it and defeat the Deku Shrub by bouncing back his seeds with your shield. After he has given you advice, go through the door in front of you. Now, jump across to the hanging platform and then over to land before it falls – but if you are too slow, just climb up the vines on the wall. Now, climb up and get up and open the treasure chest to get the fairy slingshot. Now, equip your slingshot, and aim it at the ladder to knock it down.

Now, exit the room and go back to where you got the map. Shoot all the skullwalltullas on the vines and then climb up to the top and go around to one side and then drop down. Now, walk around the circle until you find a door. Go through. Now, step on the switch in front of you. This will temporarily lift the platforms in front of you. Now jump across them until you reach the other side, with a treasure chest. Open it to get the compass.

Now, go back to the beginning of the room by climbing up the vines. You can press the switch again and use the platforms to go to the left for a gold skulltulla. Then, at the beginning of the room, take out a deku stick and light it by holding over the flames on the lit brazier. Then, take the lit deku stick over to the other brazier. This will open the door to get back out. Now, kill one of the skulltullas guarding a platform. You can kill skulltullas by slashing them when they turn around. Then step up to the platform. Jump off it, so that you land on the web down below. This will break the web, and you’ll fall right through.

Facing away from the vine wall, go to your right and press the switch. This will light a brazier, burning away the cobwebs covering it. Now, pull out a deku stick and light it. Now, run across the shallow water to the southern platform. Using the deku stick to burn the web, go through the door.

Defeat the deku shrub, and then use your slingshot to shoot the eye above the locked door. This will take away the bars. Go through the door. In the next room, go to the left side of the water, and you will see an underwater switch. Dive down and press it to lower the water level. Now, swim back to the land and jump onto the platform. With the water level lowered, the platform will float past the spikes low enough for you to fit. Now jump off at the other side. Now, kill the skulltulla and push the block over so you can jump onto it and then up to the door. Now go to the next room.

In this room, make sure you have a deku stick – there are deku babas. Now, pull out a deku stick and light it with the lit brazier. Now run and light the other two braziers to open the locked door. Go through it to the next room.

In the next room, kill the skulltulla. Then lit your deku stick from the lit brazier. Use your deku stick to burn the web at the eastern end of the room. Then crawl through the tunnel behind the web. Now you will be back in the room where you fell to after diving down through the web – except you’ll be on the other side of the room. Push the block off the edge, then jump across, light your deku stick from a brazier, run back to the other island, and hit the web with your lit deku stick. You will fall through.

Now, go to the land and defeat the deku shrubs (by bouncing back their nuts with your shield) in this order: the middle one, then the one on your right, then the one on your left. Now run up and talk to the left one. After you’ve talked, the door will open. Go through to face the boss.

BOSS: Queen Gohma

To defeat Queen Gohma, stun her by chucking a deku nut at her eye (or using a slingshot), and then slash at her eye until she gets up. If she gets up on the roof, knock her down with your slingshot, or she’ll drop down eggs which will hatch into gohma babies. After enough hits, she will die. Now get the heart container and step into the blue light.

HYRULE CASTLE

After all the cut scenes, leave Kokiri Forest (the Kokiri guy will no longer stop you). On the bridge past the doorway, Saria will give you a fairy ocarina. Now, you will be in Hyrule Field. After talking to Kaepora Gaebora (the owl), follow the path north to Hyrule Castle gates. At night, the gates will close, and skullkids will come out. Two slashes of the sword will deal with them. When it reaches daytime, enter the gates. Now, in the market there are lots of games and stuff, and you should buy a Hylian Shield for 80 rupees at the Bazaar (or get one in Kakariko Village Graveyard). When you’ve had enough fun with them, go through the entrance to Hyrule Castle – it’s straight ahead after you enter. First, let yourself get caught by a guard. Now, at the entrance, Malon will appear. Talk to her and get the egg. Now, climb the vines to your right, jump over the gate, go off the path between the two sets of soldiers, and go forward until you get to some vines. Climb up them and jump into the moat. Swim up the moat until you get to a raised bit of land at the corner where you can climb up. Now wait until your egg hatches and then use it to wake Malon, who is in the way. He will wake up and run off. Now push the blocks over the edge and climb up. Jump across to the little hole, but before you go in, make sure it is daytime or you won’t be able to progress any further. Once you’re through, you must get to Princess Zelda by avoiding the guards. It shouldn’t be too hard, the guards are pretty stupid, but I’d advise you don’t go for the rupees at the hedge.

When you get through, talk to Princess Zelda. When you’re finished, try to exit. Impa will take you outside, and teach you Zelda’s Lullaby.

Now, go to the Lon Lon Ranch and talk to Malon repeatedly until she talks about how her mother wrote this song. Then pull out your ocarina and she will teach you Epona’s Song (you will need this song to get Epona as an adult).

LOST WOODS

Now go to the Lost Woods, back at Kokiri Forest. Follow the path to the Sacred Forest Meadow by going through the door where you can clearly hear the Lost Woods music. Eventually you will get to the Sacred Forest Meadow.

SACRED FOREST MEADOW

Ahead of you is a gate. You won’t be able to go through it until you beat the Wolfos. Hold your shield up when he strikes and then hit him with your sword. Now, go through the gate. Get to the end – the deku shrubs are a cinch, just return their shots with your shield and then chase them and kill them with your sword. When you get through, you will see Saria sitting on a log. She will teach you Saria’s Song.

DEATH MOUNTAIN

Now, go to Kakariko Village (Impa showed you the direction – just cross the bridge and go up the stairs). Go left from the tree, up the stairs, and ahead to the guard who is blocking the gate to Death Mountain. Show him Zelda’s letter and he’ll let you through. Now, go up the mountain, until you get to a door. It will lead into Goron City. Go Through the door and you will be in Goron City.

Once you’re in, get to the bottom floor, either by jumping down, or by taking the stairs. When you’re at the bottom, go up to the door that has a mat in front of it with a triforce symbol. Stand on the mat and play Zelda’s Lullaby. The door will now open, so go through until you’re standing in front of King Darunia. Now pull out your ocarina and play Saria’s Song. King Darunia will start dancing like crazy, and then after he’s finished talking to you, he’ll give you the Goron Bracelet.

Now that you have the Goron’s Bracelet, exit Goron City. Once you have exited, take the first right and go up to where a Goron is minding a bomb flower. Go up and pick up the bomb flower (you can pick them up now that you have the Goron Bracelet), and then chuck it off the edge. It should land near the big boulder blocking the entrance to Dodongo Cavern, and will blow it up. Now jump down and enter.

DODONGO’S CAVERN

In the first room there will be a bombable door ahead of you, and bomb flowers on either side. Pick up a bomb flower and put it next to the door. When it explodes, the door will be blown up, and you can go through.

Now, when you get to the main room, go across the bridge onto the middle platform, and go left to the piece of land on the side. On the middle platform and in other areas, there will be Beamos – Beamos are metal dudes with a head with an eyeball that shoot lasers. To kill them, hit their eyeball with a bomb or bomb flower (you’ll have to settle for bomb flowers at the moment). Now, use a bomb flower to blow up the bombable door. Inside it will be a map. Now, go across to the right hand side and use the bomb flower to blow up the two bombable doors. In one of them is a gossip stone. In the other is a passageway with Dodongo Larva. When you hit one of these, it falls over and explodes, so after you hit it, keep your distance.

At the end of the passage is a doorway with bars over it, a blue switch, and a statue looking like an Armos. Unlike normal switches, blue switches only stay down as long as there’s an object keeping them down. So what you have to do is push the Armos statue onto the blue switch, and then you can go through the door.

Once you’re through the door, you’ll be in a small passageway with two keese. Shoot the keese with your slingshot and then go through the door at the end. In the next room there are two Lizalfos, both on different platforms. These guys are easy to beat. First equip your Hylian Shield. They only come at you one at a time, and when one retreats to his platform, the other one comes forward. To beat these guys, target them and put your Hylian Shield above you. As soon as the Lizalfos strikes, get up and hit it. Repeat this until they’re both dead and go through the door on the platform ahead of you to your left.

In the next room there are some fire-breathing Dodongos. When they open their mouths to breathe fire, pick up a bomb flower and chuck it in their mouth. When they die, they explode, just like their larva. To open the door at the end of the room, light your deku stick from the lit brazier and use it to light all the other braziers. Then go to the next room.

The next room will be back in the main room, but on the raised part that you can’t reach. Step on the switch, and then jump down and go across to the other side of the room where a door was unlocked

After you’ve gone through the doorway, go up and bomb the bombable door on the left and go through. It looks like there are three Armos statues guarding a treasure chest, but the one at the front is a real Armos. To defeat him, pick up a bomb flower and put it down next to him (don’t chuck it at him). Just before it explodes, hit him with your sword and run. The Armos will start chasing you, but the bomb flower will explode. The Armos will spin around, flashing red, until he explodes. Now open the treasure chest to get the compass and leave the room.

Now you will see a giant staircase with bomb flowers surrounding it except for a gap at the front – however, the bottom step is too high for you to reach. Pick up a bomb flower and put it down at the gap. When it explodes, a chain reaction will occur, and the staircase will lower. Go up the stairs. Now, follow the path (choose either path, they go round in a circle round the wall and meet up at the other side of the room). On the vines is a skullwalltulla and a gold skulltulla. After you get the gold skulltulla, go through the door set into the wall.

In the next room, you can kill the fire keese with your slingshot (make sure you have your Hylian Shield on, if fire touches your Deku Shield it burns and you have to get a new one). Surrounding a platform in the middle are three Armos and a statue. The statue is the one covering a ladder. Move the statue and climb up. Now press the switch at the top to unlock the next door. Go through.

Now, go across the bridge, watching out for the fire keese and the two holes in the bridge where you’ll have to jump, and get to the next room. In this room, there are lots of spiky things, so be careful when you go through. At the south east end (straight ahead, basically), there is a silver block. Climb up it and then up the ladder, and then jump across to the platform with a treasure chest and a bomb flower. There are twenty rupees inside the treasure chest. Pick up a bomb flower and chuck it so that it gets stuck behind the top part of the ladder (or time your throw so that the bomb reaches the door as it explodes mid-air), so that the bombable door explodes. Now go through.

In the next room is some platforms, with the middle one on fire. Use your slingshot to shoot the eye of Horus up on the wall and then continue on. In the next room you will have to face more Lizalfos. After you beat them, go through the next door.

In the next room, there are two fiery platforms. The first one can be doused by shooting theeye of horus up on the wall. Then, jump across to that platform and on your left is a little alcove with another eye of horus. Shoot it to douse the next flame and go across to the next room. In this room, jump across the gap and on your right climb up. There will be a treasure chest. Open it to get the bombs, and then go through the door.

Now, step on the switch to make the platform down below go up to the top floor. Now, go to your right and onto the bridge. At the end of the bridge is a bombable door with a treasure chest containing a blue rupee. Get it if you want. Now, go to the two gaps in the bridge and drop down bombs so that they land in the eyes of the dead Dodongo. Once both eyes are lit up by the explosion of the bombs, it’s mouth will open. Now jump down and go through the door in it’s mouth.

Now in the next room, kill the two fire keese (you don’t get anything for it, but keese can be very annoying). Now go through the east door (the one on the right from where you enter the room). Now, kill the two keese, and go left around the wall, then right and up to where the block is. Go over the block. Now, ahead of you to the left (the northern door), you can bomb it and go through, there is a gold skulltulla behind an Armos. Now, go back to the blocks, and climb up onto the ledge. Now run up it, and jump over to the doorway. Go through it.

At the end, is a block. Push it down and you will find yourself back in the main room past the giant Dodongo’s mouth. Push the block onto the switch in the hole in the middle of the room. It will open the door to the boss room. Now, in this room there is a treasure chest with bombs. After you get the bombs, drop one in the middle of the room on that metallic piece of floor. It will bomb a hole in the floor. Go down the hole.

BOSS: King Dodongo

First things first, if you want to beat this dude. At the edge of the lava pit, there is slanted ground. If you stand here, King Dodongo can’t do anything to you. Now, when he rolls around, he will eventually bump into the wall and get up. He will then open his mouth, suck in some air, and then blow fire. What you have to do is chuck a bomb in his mouth when he’s sucking in air (if you run out of bombs, use the bomb flowers at the corners of the arena). It will explode inside him, and then he’ll fall down. Now run up and slash at him with your sword. Repeat this until he dies. Then get the heart container, and then go on the blue transporter.

SCALING DEATH MOUNTAIN

You don’t have to do this, only if you want a magic meter and the spin swing attack. Go up Death Mountain, past the sign saying Death Mountain Trail. Now, use your bombs to blow up the rocks blocking the trail, and go up. Now, there will be a long path, but rocks keep avalanching down on you. The best way to get past here unhurt is to hide under your Hylian Shield every time they start falling on you.

When you get to the end, climb up the wall, watching out for skullwalltullas. When you get to the top, bomb the door, and go through. Now play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce symbol and a great fairy will come out of the pool and give you a magic meter and the spin swing technique. Now, go outside, and talk to Kaepora Gaebora (the owl), and then hop under him. He will fly you down to Kakariko Village. You will land on the house next to the chicken lady’s house. Drop down to the little door, and go through to get the heart piece next to the cow in the cage.

Now, for Din’s Fire, go to Hyrule Castle. Get past the guard at the gate either by paying him 10 rupees or by climbing up the vines. Go over, and go to the dead end on your right. Blow up the rock with a bomb, and then go through. Play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce symbol and a great fairy will come up and give you Din’s Fire.

ZORA’S RIVER

Now go out into Hyrule Field, and go through the passageway following the river, up near the top right-hand corner of the map (south of Kakariko Village). After talking to Kaepora Gaebora, bomb the rocks and keep going. Go up to the dirt patch at the side of the river just before the bean seller (you can buy some beans if you want) and jump across to the other side of the river. Now go up ahead (watching out for Octoroks), and lump across at the end. Now go straight ahead. When you get to the edge, jump down onto the platform in the middle of the river, and jump from that to the other side of the river. Now turn right and go straight ahead until you reach the wall. Then turn right, walk across the shallow water to the other piece of land, then turn left and jump across to the land. Now go ahead until you reach the bridge. Cross it, and keep following the path until you are over another thin path. Jump down and walk up to the sign on the ground in front of the waterfall. Play Zelda’s Lullaby and the waterfall will part, letting you jump across into Zora’s Domain.

ZORA’S DOMAIN

Now, once you’re in Zora’s Domain, follow the path up the stairs until you’re in front of King Zora. Now take a left, until you reach the Zora at the edge of the waterfall. Agree to play the diving game. To win, you have to dive off the waterfall and collect all the blue rupees in the allotted time. A good tip is to make sure that your shadow is over the rupee when you dive.

After you win, go up to the waterfall and talk to the Zora again. She will give you the silver scale. Now, go back down to the water, and look for an underwater door. Dive through it, and you will be in Lake Hylia. Get the bottle at the bottom of the lake and go back through to Zora’s Domain through the door.

Now go up to King Zora and give him the letter in the bottle. Do this by stepping up on the platform, Z targeting the King, and pressing the C button that your item is set to. The letter is from his daughter, Princess Ruto, who says she’s inside Lord Jabu-Jabu. Then he will move aside to let you through the gate behind him (it takes forever).

Before you go through, go back down to the shallow water of Zora’s Domain, near the circle of rocks, and catch a fish with your bottle (they’re swimming around). It’s a lot cheaper than buying one for 200 rupees. Now go back up and through the gate.

ZORA’S FOUNTAIN

Now, first things first, you should probably get Farore’s Wind, it will come in real handy throughout the game (but it’s not necessary for the completion of the game). To get Farore’s Wind, go to the island in the south-east (bottom left) corner of the area, and put a bomb against the wall with the silver and light brown rocks. The wall will blow up, and you can go through into the Great Fairy’s Fountain. Once again, play Zelda’s Lullaby on the triforce symbol, and the great fairy will come out of the pool, giving you Farore’s Wind. Now go back out onto Lord Jabu-Jabu’s altar so that you’re directly in front of the giant fish’s mouth. Now equip your bottle with the fish in it and drop the fish. Lord Jabu-Jabu will open his mouth and suck the fish in, and you will get sucked in with it.

INSIDE JABU-JABU’S BELLY

In the first room, there will be two Octorok, which you can kill by bouncing back their shots with your Deku Shield, and there will be Shabom, which you can kill with your sword (contrary to Navi’s advice), or you can shoot at them with your slingshot. Now, to open the door at the end of the room, look up for a switch on the roof. Shoot it with your slingshot, and then go through the door.

Now, follow the path to the next door. Don’t bother trying to kill the Biri, to kill these flying electric jellyfish, you need a boomerang. Go through into the next room. Now you will meet Princess Ruto. After talking to her, she will walk away and fall through one of the holes. Go down the hole she fell through and talk to her. Talk to her again after that and she will agree to let you carry her. Now, pick her up and go through the door behind you. Now put Princess Ruto down and kill the Shaboms. Make sure whenever you move on, you don’t forget the Princess. If you die, let her drown, or leave the room she’s in without her, she will go back to the starting point and you’ll have to go back to her and start over again.

Now, go through the passageway until you get to a big room with an empty lake in the middle. Go down into the ‘lake’ and put Ruto down. Now kill all the enemies. Try killing the Stingers with your slingshot before they see you and fly at you. Also, there is a gold skulltulla on the wall, you can’t get it until the water rises. After defeating all of the enemies, chuck Ruto onto the land at the end of the room, and then step on the switch to raise the water. Now swim over to land and grab her.

Now go through the passageway. Use your slingshot to unlock the door, and then go through. Kill the Octorok with your Deku Shield, and then wait for a platform to appear. If you want, you can dive under the water here. There’s a hole you can swim through, but all that’s through there is a Deku Salesman. After you’ve hopped on the platform, wait until it’s reached the top. If you try and jump to land with Ruto, you’ll fall down and she’ll drown. You have to throw her over to land and then jump across.

Now you will find yourself in the second room of the dungeon. Go through the door to the room you first found Ruto in, but this time, instead of falling down a hole, go through the door at the other end of the room, watching out for Bari, giant Biri which, when killed, split up into Biri.

In the next room, go to the passageway to the right, watching out for the Tailpasaran. There will be a switch, but it won’t budge unless you hold Ruto while stepping on it. Now go through the door after unlocking it. In this room, kill all of the Stingers, and a treasure chest will appear. Open it to get the boomerang.

Now, leave the room and go to the passageway on the left from where you entered this room, or just keep going straight ahead. You can kill the Tailpasaran by throwing the boomerang at its tail. Now you will see a locked door and a blue switch. A blue switch stays depressed only as long as something is still holding it down. Stand on it, drop Ruto on it, and then go through the now unlocked door.

Now, in the next room there will be a Parasitic Tentacle hanging from the ceiling. Z-Target the narrow part of its body and throw your boomerang at it. It will retreat into the ceiling. Now, get close to it so it comes down, avoiding its swinging attack, and throw your boomerang at it again. Repeat this until it’s dead. Now a treasure chest will appear. Open it to get a map. Now leave the room.

Now, turn left and go through to the door. The red slimy thing is gone because you cut the red tail (Parasitic Tentacle). In this room, you have forty seconds to kill all the Shaboms. You can kill them easily with the boomerang. When you do this, a treasure chest will appear. Open it to get the compass. Now go out of this room.

Now go to the entrance to the room on the right, but go left a room. There is no longer a red slimy thing. Go through to face another Parasitic Tentacle. Beat this and then leave the room. The centre door no longer has a red slimy thing blocking it. Go through the door.

In this room, there will be some Biri and a Parasitic Tentacle. Kill the Biri with your boomerang, same as the Parasitic Tentacle. Now, leave the room.

Now leave this room so you’re back where all the holes are. You’ll find that the green slimy thing is no longer blocking a hole. Go down the hole (it’s the one in the north-west or top left corner of the screen). Now, go through the door. You will see the Zora’s Sapphire. Throw the Princess up to the platform with the stone. She will get it, but then the platform will rise and take her away. When it comes back down, there will be Bigocto on it. To kill him, you have to run behind him and stun him with the boomerang, then hit him with your sword. Repeat this until he dies, watching out for the spikes.

After you defeat him, hop onto the platform and it will take you up a level. Now, kill the Biri and go through the door. Then you will have to cross some wobbling red things to get to the next door. Stun them with your boomerang and then jump across them. Go through the door.

Now run and jump across to the platform. It will drop down to the second room of the dungeon. Now, run around to the other side of the room, pick up a box, run back, and drop it on the blue switch. Now go through the door that is now unlocked.

In the next room, kill all of the Biri, and then climb up the vines to get to the top of the tall rock. Then, target the switch on the roof and throw it at the switch. Because the boomerang is thrown in a circular sweep, it will go around the glass that’s in the way.

Now the boss door is open, so go through.

BOSS: Barinade

Firstly, make sure to dodge Barinade’s electric attacks. Now, use your boomerang to stun all of the things on top of Barinade. Then the jellyfish will come off the body. Use your boomerang to stun the body, and then kill all of the jellyfish. Now, when it starts flying, stun it with your boomerang and then start slashing at it. When it shoots electricity, dodge. Keep doing this and it will eventually die. Get the heart container and then step on the blue warp. Now you will get the Zora’s Sapphire.

THE TEMPLE OF TIME

Now that you’ve got all three spiritual stones, go to Hyrule Castle. As you near the gate to the castle, the sky darkens, and the game switches to a cut scene. Impa and Princess Zelda will ride away on a white horse, and Zelda will throw something into the moat. Then Ganondorf will come out on a black stallion, and ask you if you saw the white horse. Then he will ride away.

Now, go into the moat and get the item from the bottom of the moat. It is the Ocarina of Time. Get it, and you will learn the Song of Time. Once you’ve learnt this song, go into the Town Market, and into the Temple of Time. Walk up to the altar, and play the Song of Time. The door will open. Now, approach the Master Sword and press A in front of it to pull it out of the pedestal.

Then Ganondorf will appear, and with access to the Sacred Realm, will take control over Hyrule. Meanwhile…

SEVEN YEARS LATER

When you wake up, you will find yourself inside the Chamber of Sages, inside the Light Temple. Rauru the sage will tell you that you were sealed up here for seven years, because you were too young to be the Hero of Time. After he finishes talking, he will give you the Light Medallion.

Then you will appear next to the Pedestal of Time. When you try to leave, Sheik will appear, claiming to be the survivor of the Sheikahs, guardians of the Royal Family. She will tell you to go to Kakariko Village. Since you aren’t equipped to enter the Forest Temple yet, do as she says.

LON LON RANCH

Leaving the Temple of Time, you will have to go through Town Market, which is destroyed and full of Redeads. Don’t look at them, and just leave. Now, assuming you have Epona’s Song, go to Lon Lon Ranch. Now go and talk to Ingo, who is at the gate to the horse pen. Agree to ride, and then once you’re inside, play Epona’s Song. Epona should come running towards you. Mount her, and then talk to Ingo. He should ask to make a wager of 50 rupees by racing him. If he doesn’t say this, try jumping fences, or getting out and paying to get in again and repeating this or whatever, until he does. Do it, and then race him. If you win, he will ask for another race, but this time he’s harder, and if you win you get Epona.

After you beat him, Ingo will close the gate to the ranch. You have to make a running jump over the fence. Then, head to Kakariko. Epona can’t enter towns or doors, so you’ll have to leave her at the entrance. However, if you want to call Epona to you, play Epona’s Song and she will come running up to you.

KAKARIKO VILLAGE

Now, when you reach Kakariko Village you will find out where all the former inhabitants of Town Market are living – they’ve moved in to Kakariko!

What you have to do is go to the Kakariko Graveyard. Go to the first row of gravestones, and turn left. Go to the gravestone next to the wall, where there was a magic bean as a kid, it has flowers or something in front of it. Go behind it and pull it back, and then go inside. Talk to the ghost of Dampe the grave keeper, and he will offer to race. Then he will fly off through a maze. You must keep up with him, because when he passes through a door, it will close soon after. Also, he drops fire at you. If you can keep up until the end, talk to him and a treasure chest will appear, and when you open it you will get the hookshot. If you get to the end in a minute or less, you also get a heart piece.

To get out, go through the next doorway, and stand in front of the blocks. Play the Song of Time. The blocks will disappear, so now go up the stairs. You will be in the strange windmill, but at the doorway at the top. Jump across the spinning boards to get a heart piece, and then go down to the old man and pull out your ocarina. He will teach you the Song of Storms.

LOST WOODS

Now that you’ve got the hookshot, leave Kakariko and go to Kokiri Forest. Then go to the Lost Woods, and through to the Sacred Forest Meadow (remember, follow your ears…). When you come to the doorway blocked by Mido, play aria’s Song and he’ll let you through. In case you forgot, this is the way through (L=left, R=right, F=forward). R, L, R, L, F, L, R.

When you reach the Sacred Forest Meadow, you must get to the end. Watch out for Moblins, who guard the paths. Wait until they walk past you, then shoot their backs with your hookshot. When you get to the stairs, there will be a Club Moblin. Dodge his shots, run behind him, and hit him.

When you reach the place where you met Saria as a kid, Sheik will appear and teach you the Minuet of Forest. Play this song to warp to the Triforce pad outside the temple. Now use the hookshot to get into the temple by aiming it at the overhanging tree branch. Now go in.

FOREST TEMPLE

When you first enter the Forest Temple, go straight ahead and two Wolfos will appear. After defeating them, climb up the vines on the right-hand side of the room, until you get to the branch. Once you’re standing there, you can shoot the gold skulltulla that’s higher up (with your hookshot). Then, walk across the branch, and jump to the next branch to get the small chest, or if that’s too hard, hookshot yourself over by aiming at the chest. Open it to get a small key. Now, go through the door to get to the next room.

In the next room, kill the skulltulla. If you use your hookshot, you don’t have to wait for it to turn around. Go through the door into the next room. You will see a cut scene of the four poe sisters making the elevator go down, so that it’s inaccessible. Now, go to the door that’s straight ahead, at the other end of the room. Then, once you’ve gone through, kill the blue bubble by hitting it with your shield. This will take away its shield, so you can attack it with your sword.

Then, go through the next door, and you will face two Stalfos. Attack them straight after they’ve attacked you, when their shields are down. Watch out for their jumping attacks. After you defeat them, a small chest will appear, with a small key inside. Now leave the room. Defeat the blue bubble and go through the next door. Now, go down the stairs and go through the door on your right. You’ll have to play the Song of Time to move the block out of your way.

In the next room, kill the Big Deku Baba and then turn right and go up the vine wall, killing all the skullwalltullas that you can. Climb up until you reach a little alcove with a door, and go through the door. Kill the blue bubble, and a big chest will appear. Open it to get the map. Now go through the next door and kill the Deku Baba. Then climb up onto the railings, and use your hookshot on the target to get to the platform with the red switch. Now step on the switch. The water in the well will go down.

Now, jump down onto the ground. You can get to the treasure chest on the island by using your hookshot on the chest, but all that’s up there is a heart in the chest and a gold skulltulla. Now, go down the well and run to the other end. There will be a small chest. Open it to get a key. Then climb up the vines. Come out of the well, then go forward a bit and turn right. Go through the door to be back in the main room. Now go to the door on your right. It’s locked, but you should have three keys so go through. Kill the Skulltulla and then go through to the next room.

Now, kill the blue bubble and go up the ladder straight ahead of you. Then climb up the ladder on your right, then go through the doorway ahead of you to your left. Now, take the second left and then turn left again and then through the next doorway that is blocked by a block. Push the block to follow the arrows, going forward and then pushing it left. Then go back through the doorway where the block was, turn right and the through the other doorway, and push the block as far as it will go. Now go back to where there was a ladder, you passed it as you were pushing the block. Climb up it.

Go forward, right, and then through the doorway. Now push the block as far as it will go. Then go back down the ladder you just came up. Then go right, left, and then climb up onto the green block, and then up the ledge. Now go forward and push the brown block as far as it will go, and then climb up it and up the ledge. Then turn right, right, and then climb up the ladder. Kill the two blue bubbles, and then go through the key door.

Now go through the twisted corridor. Then jump across to the platform, and then turn right and jump across to the key door, watching out for wall masters. Then go down all the sets of stairs until you come to a door. Go through it to face a Stalfos. After you beat it, a piece of floor will fall down and cover the hole in the middle of the room, and two more Stalfos will appear. When you kill one, it will fall to pieces, and if you don’t kill the second one in time, it will come back to life. The trick is to almost kill one, then kill the second. Then you can kill the first Stalfos really quickly because it’s already weak. After you defeat them, a big chest will appear. Open it to get the fairy bow.

Now go through the next door. | Go partway up the stairs and you should see a picture of a poe on a picture. There are three pictures in the room. When you get near the poe picture, the picture will go blank, and the poe will reappear in one of the other pictures. You have to find which picture the poe is in, and shoot it with your bow. Then this picture will disappear. Now, do the same until there are no pictures left. The poe will come out, and go down the stairs. Follow her, and you will battle her. She is Beth, one of the poe sisters. She will go invisible, and start swinging her torch at you. Protect yourself, and then slash at her with your sword as soon as she reappears. Repeat this until you defeat her. When you defeat her, the torch will be lit, and a big chest will appear. Open it to get the compass. Go back through the door next to the big chest, then in the next room go through the door. Now you will be in another poe room. To beat Joelle, do the same as you did with Beth. After you defeat her, the torch will be lit, and a small chest will appear. Open it to get a small key.

Now go up the stairs and through the door, then jump across to the next platform, and then jump left. Now go back through the twisted corridor and through the door. Now, use your bow to shoot the silver eye of horus above the door and go back through. Go through the corridor, and then jump down into the next room. Open the big chest to get the boss key, and then jump down the hole in the middle of the room.

Now, kill the two blue bubbles and then go through the now unlocked door. Now, turn right and run along the path until there’s a door in front of you, and one on your right. Go through the one on your right and the door will lock behind you. Now, you must face a Floormaster. Hold your shield up, and when it hits your shield, it will stop. Now hit it with your sword twice. It will then split up into about three little hands. You must kill all of these, with your sword, or they’ll grow back into a Floormaster. When you kill them, a small chest will appear. Open it to get a small key, and then leave the room. Now turn right and go through the door. Jump down, and you will be in the room where you pushed all the blocks. Go up all the ladders and everything until you’re at the room with the entrance to the twisted (but now untwisted) passageway. Now, shoot the eye of horus again to twist the passage. Now, go through the twisted passageway, jump across to the platform, and then jump right and through the door.

Then go down the stairs of the poe room, through the door, through the next room, up the stairs of the next poe room and through the door, and then jump down to the floor and climb the ladder on your right. Now, kill the green bubbles and then go through the key door.

Now, in this room, jump across onto one of the platforms that are spinning around the centre one with a brazier. Now, equip your bow, and aim an arrow at the brazier. Wait until your platform has spun around so that the eye of horus covered in ice is behind the brazier, and then shoot. The arrow should catch on fire, and the switch will get pressed. It will twist the corridor you just came through. Go back through, and jump down. Now go down the hole in the floor.

Now, in this room, you have to get through the room without the ceiling squashing you. Look for holes in the ceiling, and make your way to the switch. Press it and go through the door at the end.

Now you are in the third poe room, but this one is a little bit different than the first two. First, shoot the picture of Amy the poe. Then, five blocks will fall down. You will get about one minute to put the pieces into a picture of Amy (four pieces – one piece is always a blank square). Each time you fail, you have to try again, but you get five seconds extra time. When you do this, Amy will come out of the picture, and you must fight her, just like Beth and Joelle. When you defeat her, the torch will be lit, and the door next to it will unlock. Go through this door. Now, kill the skulltulla, and go through the next door. You will find yourself in the main room, but on the balcony that you couldn’t climb up to. If you look down, you will see three torches lit, and the final poe waiting. Meg splits up into lots of herself, but you must shoot the real one with your bow. When she splits up, you can tell the real one because it’s the one that spins around first. Now the elevator will come back up. Step in it and go down.

Now, in this room, push a large block clockwise, and then go in the door with the skulltulla, and there’s a gold skulltulla. Now push a large block clockwise again, and then again. Now go through one of the doors and you will find a switch. Step on it, and then push a large block clockwise, and then clockwise again, and then again. Now, go through the door with a switch, and step on it. Now push one of the large blocks clockwise, and then clockwise again. Now go through the door with a switch. Step on it, and then the door at the opposite end of the room will open. Go through, and then open the boss door with the boss key.

BOSS: Phantom Ganon

When you enter this room, go up the stairs and enter the ring. Walk up to the centre of the ring, and then try to leave. Metal spikes will come up, and you can’t get out. Then Phantom Ganon will appear, and fly into a painting. Now, to stay safe, walk onto one of the Triforce symbols in the corners. Now his electricity attacks can’t hurt you. What this boss will do is come through a painting and enter the ring and attack, but there’s also a Phantom Ganon coming through in a picture that won’t enter the ring. This is the fake. You have to shoot the real Phantom Ganon with an arrow as he is turning white to enter the ring. Repeat this until his horse dies and he flies around. Now, he will shoot magic at you. Hit it back at him with your sword. Keep doing this until it hits him, and he will fall down. Then hit him with your sword before he gets up. Repeat this until he dies. When you win, get the heart container and then step on the blue warp.

After talking to Saria, you will get the Forest Medallion. Then you will talk to the Deku Tree sprout.

GORON CITY

After you’ve finished talking to the Deku Sprout, go to Goron City. Now go to the floor second from the top. There’s a Goron rolling around. Stop it with a bomb, and talk to him. His name is <whatever your name is> and is the son of King Darunia. Ask him about dragons, and then about the Gorons. After talking to him, he will give you the Goron Tunic. Now, go into King Darunia’s throne room, which is now open, and pull back the statue. Now a path will open. Go through and you will be in Death Mountain Crater.

Now, go across the bridge ahead of you to your left. Get across the gap in the bridge by using your hookshot on the wooden plank ahead. Now walk forward and Sheik will appear. She will teach you the Bolero of Fire. Then go past the bridge and turn left. Go through the doorway and down the ladder. Then go through the next doorway to enter the Fire Temple.

FIRE TEMPLE

In the first room of this temple, there will be two Fire Keese. After killing them, go up the stairs and through the door on your left. In this room you will meet King Darunia. After finishing talking to him, jump along the platforms to your left. At the end you will see a Goron inside a cage, and a switch just outside. After stepping on the switch, talk to the Goron and then open the small chest inside for a small key. Then leave this room so you’re back in the first room, and go through the key door on the right.

Now, go to the door on the left side of the room (north). Go through it and rescue the Goron by stepping on the switch, and after talking to the Goron, get the small key from the small chest. Then go through the door, and go near the block up on top of the door. Play the song of time, then climb up the block, and through the door. Defend yourself against the tiles by holding up your shield, and then kill the Like Like and get the gold skulltulla. Now leave the room.

Now, go along the right hand side of the wall until you get to the door you first came through Instead of going through it. Instead, go right (facing away from the door), until you come to what looks like a doorway, but there’s no door. Bomb it and go through the door behind it. Then free the Goron and get the key. Then leave the room.

Now, go along the right hand side of the wall until you get to a key door. Go through it and then go across the bridge and go through the key door at the other end. Now, slide down the wooden plank and climb up the wire mesh on the right hand side, watching out for Keese. When you get to the top, push the block off the edge, and hop on. When the flame spurts out, it will push you and the block up through the hole in the ceiling. At the top, go through the key door.

In the next room, go left, climb up, and kill the Torch Slug by stunning it with your hookshot, and then hitting it twice with your sword. Climb up and kill the other Torch Slug. Then jump across to between the block and the crystal switch. Push the block off the edge, then jump down, go to the other side of the block, and pull it as far as it will go. Then climb up on top of the block and jump onto the wire mesh. Go up to the floor just above the crystal switch, go to the edge, and hit the crystal switch with your hookshot or bow. Then quickly climb up to the top and run to the wire mesh. Climb up before the fire reappears. Climb up to the top and go through the door.

Now, go around the edge of the next room, watching out for boulders, until you find a Goron in a cage with a switch outside. Step on the switch and then after talking to the Goron, get the small key from the small chest. Then go around the edge of the room until you find a key door. Go through.

Now, shoot the eye of horus on the wall, and then go through the now unlocked door. Open the big chest to get the dungeon map. Now, leave this room, and then go back into the room with all the boulders. Now, go to the north end of the room, and through the door. Free the Goron and get the key. Then leave the room, and go back to the room with the eye of horus (go straight ahead from when you leave the room you’re in, it’s the diamond-shaped room on the map), and go through the key door.

In the next room, run to the other end of the room, watching out for the wall of fire, and go through the door. You will be back in the boulder room, but on the platforms up the top. Jump across, kill the Torch Slug, and bomb the wonky floor on this platform. Go down and get the key for rescuing the Goron. Then go back up. Now, jump to the platform with the switch and press it. Then, go to the next platform that has a Torch Slug, and jump across all the platforms until you get to the cage with the Goron. Get the key, and then go to the door that’s on the platform next to where you blew a hole in the floor.

Now you should be back in the room with the wall of fire. Go to the key door in the middle of the room and go through. Then go through the next door.

Now, in the next room, watching out for Fire Keese, jump down and go left. Find your way through the maze, and get to the key door. Go through it, and then through the next door. Now, ahead of you should be a switch. Get to it, and step on it. Now the big fire barrier will disappear temporarily. Get past the barrier, and go through the door (there’s a fake door in front of it, so bomb the fake door and then go through. You will now be up against the mini boss, Flame Dancer. This mini boss is easy to beat. When it comes out of the fire, it has a flame body protecting it. Pull it out of its protection suit with your hookshot, and then keep hitting it until it runs back into the fire. Repeat this until it’s dead.

Once you’ve defeated Flame Dancer, step up on the platform, and it will go up. Then go through the door in front of you. Now, in this room, turn right, and climb up the wire mesh. Then, step to the edge of the platform, and use your hookshot or bow to hit the crystal switch down below. Then run to the wire mesh ahead and climb up it before the fire barrier reappears. Now go through the door ahead of you.

In the next room, step on the switch. The fire barrier will temporarily disappear from the big chest at the end of the room. Now run up the stairs until you get to the chest. If you get there in time, open it to get the Megaton Hammer.

Now, go back to the beginning of the room, and step on the smiley face block. Hit it with the Megaton Hammer and it will fall down. In the next room, smash the two blocks with your megaton hammer and open the door. Now, in the next room, watching out for Fire Keese, smash the smiley face block. The floor will fall into a staircase leading down. Now, go to the corner of the room, pick up a box, and go down the stairs. Drop it on the blue switch and go through the door.

Now, step on the smiley face block and hit it with your megaton hammer. You can jump down and get the compass in a door near the big fire barrier, otherwise jump up and get hit the rusted switch with your megaton hammer. Then, go through the door and play the song of time. Jump down onto the blue block, jump across and hit the rusted switch with your megaton hammer, go down and get the small key from the Goron’s cage, and then go back to the first room of the temple.

On the right hand side (east) of the first room, next to the stairs, are some statues. Hit them with the megaton hammer and go through the key door. Now, kill all the enemies in the room, and the next door will unlock. Go through, then defend yourself against the tiles. Then, kill the Like Like and get the gold skulltulla. Then go through the next door. Now you will face another Flame Dancer. Beat it, and then get the bombs from the small chest that appears. Now go through the next door (at the south end of the room). Then, hit the rusted switch with your megaton hammer to free the Goron. Inside his cage is the boss key. Get it, then go through the door ahead of you. You’ll be back in the first room of the temple. Now, assuming you used the megaton hammer to smash the smiley face back in the room with the rusted switch and the big fire barrier, you should be able to jump across to the boss door. Go through.

BOSS: Volvagia

To beat Volvagia, wait until the subterranean lava dragon pops his head up from one of the holes. Then hit his head with the megaton hammer until he returns to his hole. After popping his head up, he always does an attack. One attack is to fly around breathing fire at you and trying to surround you with his body, the other is to go up to the roof and drop down boulders at you. Try hanging on to the edge of the platform during his attacks. When you defeat him, get the heart piece, and step on the blue warp.

You will see a cut scene of Death Mountain returning to normal, and then you’ll e in the Chamber of Sages talking to Darunia, the Sage of Fire. Then you will land on the warp pad in Death Mountain Crater.

DEATH MOUNTAIN CRATER

Now, go up the bridge (you can hookshot onto the part of the bridge hanging down), and turn left. Go up the next bridge, and smash the dark brown rocks on your right with the megaton hammer. Then go into the great fairy fountain. As always, play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce symbol, and then the great fairy will come out. She will double your magic capacity (magic meter).

ZORA’S DOMAIN

Now go to Zora’s Domain. Then go past the frozen King Zora into Zora’s Fountain. Jump across all the icebergs until you reach a cave entrance. Go inside.

ICE CAVERN

In the first room, keep going straight ahead until you reach a room with Freezards and a spike. Go through this room, then through the passage until you get to a room with a spinning blade. Get all the grey rupees in the room, and a door will unlock. Go through the door and through the passageway until you get to the next main room. Go up the path on your right, watching out for Ice Keese and Freezards, and jump across the platform until you reach the blue fire. Fill as many bottles as you can with of it. Keep jumping across the platforms until you reach a big chest covered in red ice. Use blue fire to melt the ice and open it to get the map. Now, refill your bottles with blue fire and go back to the room with the spinning blade.

There are two doors in this room covered by ice that can be melted with blue fire. Behind one is the compass. After getting the compass, go through the other door. In the next room, watching out for Ice Keese, you have to get all the grey rupees, using the block to help you. After you do this, push the block over to the now open door and go through. You will now face a White Wolfos. After defeating it, a big chest will appear. Open it to get the Iron Boots. Then Sheik will appear and teach you the Serenade of Water.

Now leave the Ice Cavern, and use some blue fire to unfreeze King Zora. He will give you the Zora Tunic. Now play the Serenade of Water to transport to Lake Hylia.

LAKE HYLIA

Go to Lake Hylia, put on your Zora tunic and Iron Boots, and sink to the bottom of the lake. Walk around the edge of the island in the middle of the lake, underwater, until you find a large, locked door. Aim your hookshot at the switch above the door and fire. The door will open, so go inside.
