2001: Across the US for MS

______Week 1______ ______Week 2______ ______Week 3______ ______Week 4______ ______Week 5______

06/17/01- This is the first of many journal entries. I will attempt to write in my actual hardbound journal every night of the trip. The entries will be transferred from paper to this e-journal whenever I can find and am willing to pay for use of an Internet café. It is 4:30 p.m. my time, 7:30 Ben’s time. I am due in at the Portland airport in 43 hours. I am sitting here, listening with my ears half open to Counting Crows, staring at the screen with my eyes half shut. But my fingers are moving rapidly because the sooner I finish my first entry, the sooner I can get some sleep. I have been awake since 5 p.m. yesterday, and after working my last 11-7 night audit shift at La Quinta Inn & Suites, I quickly fled from my previous 50+ hours per week work schedule, being sure not to forget the hoard of bike magazines I had previously stored on the top shelf at the office. There was no hesitation on my part retreating from the workplace, because when the best things in life are free, I wondered why I led a full-time work-life. Something tells me, wherever I work when I return, I’m going to work like I don’t need the money. I begin earning some for MS in 42 hours 50 minutes. -Simon
