The Square Playground
Four children stand in the corners of a 20m x 20m square playground. At the same moment they start walking towards the next child as shown. They all walk at the same speed and they always walk directly towards the next child.How far does each child travel before they meet in the middle?
| The answer is 20m. The four children always form a square so Barney, for example, is always walking at right angles to the line from Abigail. So Barney is not walking away from Abigail nor towards her. So the distance Abigail travels will be the same as if Barney didn’t move at all. |
