| I've been playing the demo disc that came with the september issue of Playstaion Magazine. The demo features a playable demo of Lot 8 from woodward, riding as dave mirra. In the game, you can do practically any trick in biking and do them with ease. There really are over a thousand tricks possible, from candybar seatgrabs, to no handed tailwhips, to nothing backflips. The grinds are: TRIANGLE +sprocket, feeble, smith, toothpick, icepick, Luc-e, double peg, lipslide, and crooked. The Big Air tricks are: SQUARE +Tabletops, backflips, tailwhips, lookdowns, candybars, can-cans, supermans, and rocket airs. For the grab tricks, it gets a ittle more complicated. For instance, CIRCLE + up= x-up. But CIRCLE + up up=x-down. The one button touch grab tricks,ex: (CIRCLE+up), are x-up, seat grab, one hander, no hander, barspin, no footer, one footer, and peg grab. the double touch grab tricks are: x-down, switch one hander, double seat grab, double peg grab, and barspin to barspin back. Now, to make things even more complicated, you can add both the one button touch grab tricks and the double touch grab tricks to the Big Air tricks. For instance: can-can+nofooter=nofooted can can. Backflip+barspin=Flipdriver. And yes, you can land all these in grinds. Aside from air tricks and grinds, there are manuals, nose wheelies, wall taps, footplants, and fastplants. To manual, release X to bunnyhop, then before you come down, hold down and and pressand hold down X again. To nose wheelie, press up instead of down. It takes a little while to get the hang of it. The other few tricks I did by just pressing buttons so it beats the hell out of me how to do them. By far, the best part of the game is crashing. The crashes are very realistic and each one is unique for its own situation. After playing this game for about 5 hours in the past week, I still can't get enough. Get this game if you own any kind of bike. By the way, Dave Mirra (the one in the game), is not riding the pro model. He's riding the Flair. Don't ask me why. This game is pretty good for the first REAL Bmx game. |

| Dave Mirra 2 | ||||||||||||||
| coming in August. | ||||||||||||||
| The following excerpt is taken from the Official Playstation Magazine of August 2001. This is what they wrote about the game that comes out on playstation2 ONLY. DAVE MIRRA FREESTYLE BMX 2 "gotta beat the best to be the best" Based on what we know so far about Acclaim's Dave Mirra BMX on PS2, it appears that the company has found a perfect angle. Instead of the originals, where the goal was to complete a myriad of tasks on your bike, now you can create your own biker, win your own sponsors, and ultimately attempt to unseat Mirra as the top pedaller in the land. In previous games, there wasn't an ultimate goal except for finishing and wearing a SlimJim Tshirt because that was your sponsor. Now, you're out to be the best. Of course, 12 playable pro bikers appear in the game, including Mirra, the 10 time world champion. And you'll be privy to the 1500 tricks you can do with the modifier system still in place. The 11 levels range from Highway 47, to a train yard, to Devils Peak in the commercial district. Moving cars, trucks, trains, construction equipment and other dangers impede you all the while. The game also includes a nifty create a park mode and 10 different multiplayer games. They showed screenshots of the game and they don't look as good as I had hoped. The riding environment looks alot better but the character looks like a crappy 3-D cartoon. I hoped they improved on the gameplay too because when I even touch a wall, it doesn't mean I want to turn around and go back. |
