TIGERLILY BIOGRAPHY With a diverse and lengthy musical background as a singer
and performer With influences such as early Leftfield, Massive Attack, Me’shell Ndegeocello, Norman Cook and The Beastie Boys her inclination was always for fat, funky hip-hop inspired beats and breaks. Then in the early 00’s in Sydney, Australia there was a massive breakbeat explosion and with the advent of Fuzzy Breaks – a team of promoters who facilitated the movement of breakbeat from the back rooms the main rooms – her passion for breaks was solidly clarified and her path became clear… As she honed her skills more and more the gigs came rolling in… Big Day Out 2000, 2002 & 2003, Heist @ Veda, Hot Socket @ Veda, Mercury Hotel @ Newcastle, Glebe St. Fair, Freak Out @ Marrickville Bowling Club, Sketchy Sundays @ The Cat & Fiddle in Balmain, Inner Styles @ The Roxbury in Glebe, Boombox @ Miranda, Icebreaker @ Hobart Casino, Trisellis @ Katoomba, Silvers Nightclub in Coffs Harbour, Bar Broadway, The Manning Bar, The Arthouse Hotel, The Burdekin & The Greenwood Hotel. She has played alongside acts as diverse as The Church, Koolism, DJ Peril, Bionicbeatboy and the Offcuts and featured at events such as Abi Tuckers album launch and Madame Lash’s birthday party. Not to mention an endless list of house parties. Then she became involved in the production and organisation of a variety of gigs and events. Of course none of this would have been possible without
the incredible music of the following independent record labels…
FAT!, Finger Lickin’, TCR, Skint, Labroc, Streetwise, Botchit
& Scarper, Marine Parade, Catskills, In late 2003 she made the move the Queensland’s Gold Coast where she proceeded to make her mark. She played several gigs at Baja Bar in Coolangatta where one night she was joined by DJ (I’ve Got So Much Love To Give) Falcon who had such respect he invited her to mix up with him at his gig the following night! From November 2003 to April 2004 she held a residency at the brand new, super exclusive club ‘Elsewhere’. “The challenge of a residency took me to a new level of mixing. With the unwavering support of the amazing crew at Elsewhere and playing alongside local legends such as Ben Abrahams, Don Nadi, The Beat Trafffikers and Rock Hardson, I was compelled to develop complete faith in my abilities as a DJ” From here the logical progression was the move to the UK. Now two years on it has certainly proved to be a wise choice... since arriving in 2004 she has had many radio appearances including nuskoolbreaks.co.uk, Ministry Radio, iBreaks and BreaksFM. She has played alongside such luminaries as Tayo, The Freestylers, BLIM, Friendly, The Drumattic Twins, Paul Arnold, Soul Of Man and countless others. She has played International gigs in Hungary, Spain and Ireland and has gone from assisting with the promotion of top London breaks night Platform 12 to co-promoting (alongside Paul Arnold) the legendary Chew the Fat! parties held at London's super prestigious club The End where she also held a monthly residency. "The last two years have been two of the most incredible years of my life. I have been madly, stupidly, head over heels in love with the breaks scene in London and feel honoured to have been a part of it. I look forward to returning to Australia but saying goodbye has been one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever had to face." Now her two years in London has drawn to a close and she is currently travelling through Europe... stopping to do shows in Limerick (Ireland), Galway (Ireland), Belfast (Northern Ireland), Lisbon (Portugal), Augsburg (Germany) & Budapest (Hungary)... The sky is literally the limit for this girl! Future plans include setting up a DJ Agency/PR Company in Australia
and releasing a compliation through Fat! Records with a tour to follow. |
