Residence Admission after 1st year
(This category does not apply to Divinity students)
Students returning after first year must have a minimum AGPA of 2.2 on a minimum 3.0 credits to be eligible for residence at Trinity or St. Hilda's. Students returning after second year and third year must have a minimum AGPA of 2.5 on a minimum 4.0 credits to be eligible. All spaces allocated are contingent upon the attainment of these results. Applications for exemption from this rule may be presented to the Deans of College.

allowed a maximum of four years in the
All students admitted to Trinity residences between September 1998 and September 2001, including professional faculty students, were given a guarantee of two years in residence. This guarantee still holds for these students, but it is reaffirmed that these two years may not necessarily be consecutive. This means that third-year students who have not redeemed the second year of this guarantee will be able to do so for their fourth year.
Commencing in September 2002, only overseas visa students will be given a guarantee of two years in residence; the second year of such guarantee may be redeemed immediately after the first.
In each year, a certain number of spaces will first be allocated to students redeeming one of these two sorts of guarantee.

The Residence
Lottery is open to resident and non-resident students whose permanent addresses is not within the current City of
The lottery will draw a certain number of students based on quotas for each year and, within each year category, on the overall gender ratio in the College residences. The spaces for allocation by lottery will be apportioned according to the following quotas: 60% second year, 25% third year and 15% fourth year
As names are drawn, they will be assigned a number, so that students who do not make it in through the lottery will have an idea of how far down they are on the wait-list. The Residence Lottery will take place in or about February of each year.

Residence students who have been unsuccessful in, or not participated in, the Residence Lottery, but who believe that they have demonstrated a high level of community involvement in Trinity and/or the University of Toronto may apply to a board comprised of the Deans of Men and Women and the incoming and outgoing Heads of College and Arts, for re-admission to residence. Thirty-four (34) spaces will set aside for students in this category. The decisions respecting this category will be made in or about March in each year. It is assumed that spaces in this category will be used to capacity.
Residence students who have been unsuccessful in, or not participated in, the Residence Lottery, but who have obtained at least a CGPA of 3.7 and who have completed 5.0 credits in the Fall-Winter Session during which they are making their application, and those who have obtained a comparable average in Divinity, are guaranteed a place in residence. In addition, any students holding renewable scholarships with a residence stipulation are guaranteed a place in residence, provided their scholarship is renewed.
Thirty (30) spaces will be set aside for students in this category. In the event that more spaces are required, they will be drawn from the Divinity & Discretionary category; if fewer spaces are required, the surplus will be added to the Divinity & Discretionary category. Spaces will be allocated to students in this category in or about June or July in each year.
Students not admitted or re-admitted under any of the foregoing categories may appeal to the Deans of College for admission or re-admission on the basis of consideration for special circumstances, under the Divinity & Discretionary category, below.
Admission & Re-admission: Divinity & Discretionary Category
Forty (40) spaces, subject to be adjusted up or down as noted in paragraph 9, are reserved to a Divinity & Discretionary category.
These spaces are allocated first to new Divinity students who have never before lived in the Trinity College residences and wish to take up their guarantee of a space in residence.
The balance of the spaces are allocated at the discretion of the Deans of College, and may include the following:
a) All Divinity students, either new or returning, who have already lived in the Trinity College residences, either as undergraduates or as Divinity students, other than those admitted under the Academic Achievement category.
b) Should the demand from incoming Trinity students covered by the University of Toronto housing guarantee exceed the number of spaces initially set aside for this group in accordance with paragraph 2, some of the spaces in this category may be used to take up that excess in demand.
c) Students who have filed an Appeal as contemplated in paragraph 10, above.
d) Students covered under paragraph 3, above.
Re-allocation of Unused Spaces
Spaces initially allocated in the Guarantee Redemption, Residence Lottery or Community Involvement categories but then not taken up are offered to students remaining on the Residence Lottery wait-list, in order of priority.
Spaces initially allocated in the Academic Achievement or Divinity & Discretionary categories but then not taken up are offered to students at the discretion of the Deans of College.
