Response

Despite the vast differences in the origins and environments of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, they do share one important aspect, the search for immortality. Egypt, reflected even in their creation myth thrived in a pretty peaceful area; the gods created man with the intention of protecting them. With the fertile Nile to give them life and with the benevolent gods protecting them the Egyptian people had little to worry about. The ancient Mesopotamians, on other hand were surrounded in a hellish environment, with two rivers that caused death with unpredictable flooding, a desert surrounding parts of the area, and with violent enemies all around them; it is no wonder their gods were so violent, temperamental and of little to no use to the people.
