Prompt/Purpose
Post an original personal response to one of the Readings from chapters 6-8 or a visual text (illustration) from said chapters in The Humanistic Tradition OR a visual text from chapter 2 or 4 of your "World Views" text.
Your post should not be a simple summary or mere description of your chosen cultural expression. It should be a brief yet varied, insightful, and interesting statement of how you relate some specific part of the work to your previous knowledge, and how this work contributes to your thoughts or feelings. You may make a personal comment on it, or express an understanding of why it is culturally significant. Support your statement with evidence that your response comes directly from the assignment. A quote or paraphrase of a line or passage which includes page or line reference is the perfect way to achieve this objective for a literary text; a description or two from direct observation would suffice for a visual work, etc.
If you use a text (reading or illustration) to which someone else has already responded, be sure not to approach and/or respond to it in the same way.
Title your post with the name of the text to which you are responding ;)
Response
Music flourished in the Han dynasty, as it embraced the arts fully. Such as in Greek and Roman times, music was also for enjoyment as it was for rituals and ceremonies, and this significance is shown in this piece. The people pictured look somewhat jovial in their present states. It makes me smile to think that people have always had music around to express themselves in some way, whether how it started, in ritual or later in entertainment as the Chinese may have used it. It is culturally significant because it shows how the individual and humanism became important in China.
