AN ICE-CREAM DISASTER

      “ Vanilla! Vanilla!” “No! Chocolate!” “Strawberry!” “Coconut! Coconut’s the best!” “ Never! I vote for Rum and Raisin!”

Shouts from the middle of the park where there was fountain could be heard at the other end of it. Not even the falling water sounds from the fountain could drown these voices.

            A group of teenagers were debating (yeah right) over what flavors of ice cream to buy.

Unfortunately, this debate led to a heated quarrel that broke out in two minutes’ time.  At first, all of them had given different choices of their preferred flavors and had argued immensely. Gradually, they began to take sides and formed into three ‘teams’.

The first team was made up of girls: Hildre, Keiko Shizuru and Botan; the opposing team was formed by boys: Wufei, Heero, Yuusuke, Hiei.

The former team wanted to buy Vanilla and Strawberry ice cream but the latter wanted to buy Coconut and ‘ Rum and Raisin’ ice cream.

            Relena, Yukina, Trowa, Quatre and Kurama unconsciously formed the third team; they were trying to make peace, and were failing miserably.

The ice cream man that day in the park was actually not the actual ice cream man. He was the ice cream man’s nephew, Duo Maxwell, and he was just helping out at the ice cream stall (or trolley) because he wanted to earn pocket money from his uncle.

One could say that he was really unlucky on his first day of work to meet this group of teenagers.

Seeing that a HUGE, heated quarrel or even fight was going to break out between the two ‘ teams’, Duo finally walked up to them, grinned cheerfully, and said,” Why don’t one of you guys give in? Well, you see, you can ……”

“ NEVER!!!!” came the outraged reply from both ‘ teams’, shooting dangerous “ Death Glares” at poor Duo. Duo backed away hurriedly, smiling nervously, raising his hands as if to ward them off. “ I was just trying to give some advice, haha…” Duo tried to defend himself lamely, and scuttled back to the ice cream stall and continued ringing the ice cream bell like a dummy, with a falsely cheerful smile plastered on his face.

            “ I will NOT give in or apologize! In the first place, we came out with the suggestions first! It’ll be INJUSTICE and against my honour to do so!” Wufei growled menacingly.

            “ Oh yeah!  I thought  we  came out with the suggestions first, huh! It’ll be INJUSTICE to us, not you idiots!” retorted Hildre.

            “Says who?” returned Yuusuke.

            “ WE say so!” came the sarcastic reply from Keiko.

“ Well, I say…”

“ Boo, hoo, hoo…”

Little Yukina’s crying suddenly broke up the quarrel, and everyone stared at her.

“ The ice cream man’s gone. I can’t have any ice cream now!” she sobbed, pointing down the lane. And there was Duo, pushing his ice cream trolley and creeping away quietly from the park on exaggerated tiptoes.

            “HEY!” all the teenagers of the group shouted,” Where the hell are you thinking you’re GOING!!! COME BACK!” Dragging Yukina, who was still sobbing, along, all of them gave chase to Duo and his ice cream trolley, demanding on the top of their voices that Duo stop.

            “ We’ll have Vanilla and Strawberry ice cream now! OK?! STOP!” shouted Yuusuke.” We will NOT!” chorused Heero, Wufei and Hiei, “ We are not giving in to some silly girls, Get it, Yuusuke?” ”Who are you calling silly girls, huh?!” Shizuru asked dangerously. “ You girls, of course!” came the reply.

At this moment, the sky suddenly darkened and lightning flashed, then as suddenly as it came, it disappeared!

“ Why you sissies, dumbbells, how dare you!” Keiko continued to argue fiercely. The rest of the group kept shouting for Duo to stop.

Duo only ran faster……………

Thus, this group of teenagers chased Duo all around the neighbourhood; arguing and calling him to stop at the top of their voices at the same time till……………

Back in the park, the evening wind blew gently, some leaves from the trees fell and danced in the wind as they fluttered to the ground……………………..
