1-Jackie Robinson's no. 42 was retired by Major League Baseball in 1997 to honor the 50th anniversary of his Major League debut and breaking of the color barrier. The rule did not apply to players who wore the number at the time, therefore Mariano Rivera is still allowed to wear the no. 42 and he will be the final Yankee to wear the no. 42.
