What is being done?

Schools, local councils, individuals, community groups been planting  Birdwing vine,  removing Dutchman’s pipe, helping  increase butterfly numbers.

Education is important to make people aware of  problems. For example, letters were sent to nurseries to ask them not to sell  Dutchman’s pipe vine.

Also important to map existing butterfly habitats.

How to Plant a Birdwing Vine

So plant a Birdwing vine or even better more than one in case caterpillars get very hungry.

Vines need sheltered position. Like semi-shade. Soil should be well drained and lightly mulched. Small, regular doses of fertiliser such as dynamic lifter are helpful. Soil should not be allowed to dry out completely. A trellis or support can help climbing.
