Obituary January 18, 1894

Weekly Valley Herald

It is with painful sorrow that we have to chronicle the

death of our worthy citizen, John Kugler; his death

came so suddenly and wholly unexpected on Thursday

morning January 11, that it created a sensation in the

whole community. John although having his faults like

all the rest of mankind was always ready to lend a

helping hand in whatever way he was asked. He was

good to his family, his aged parents, a faithful member

to his church and his societies (St. Antonius and St.

Joseph) as also one of the leading spirits of the Fire

Dept., his death therefore in the prime of life was a

shock to the whole community. He leaves a loving

wife, three children, his aged parents, 5 brothers and

4 sisters to mourn his early demise. The funeral on

Saturday last from the Catholic Church, was the

largest ever witnessed in this village, if not in the

county, fully 800 people escorted the remains to his

last resting place at the Catholic burial ground. The

local societies and fire dept as also the St. Bonifacius

societies and St. Bernard society of Cologne and the

delegation of the Chaska Fire Dept. participated.
