Episode 4 - Chicago Games

KINJA: (Narrates while showing aerial view of Chicago) Today's events will all take place in downtown Chicago, Illinois. Victoria, who is wearing a very nice and expensive pair of Guiseppe Zanotti  high heel sandals, will introduce today's episode. (Camera zooms into Victoria standing in front of the Macy's Department Store on State Street in downtown Chicago.)

VICTORIA: Welcome to Chicago. Here we are in front of Macy's on State Street. This store once was the famous Marshall Field department store. We have four competitions today. Again we have Sarah Jessica Parker and Drew Barrymore as our celebrity judges. Sarah Jessica is wearing a pair of  Manolo Blahnik mules and Drew is wearing a pair of  Jimmy Choo slingbacks. Dean was not able to be with us for this episode so we have a guest chief judge - Dean who is the host of the wildly popular dangling.com web site. Weclome Dean.

DEAN: Thanks Victoria. Our first event is one that is near and dear to my heart - a shoe dangling contest. Two members of each team will choose one of the following 3 shoe styles to dangle. The first shoe is a  Nine West pump. The second shoe is a  Nine West Slingback. And, the third shoe is a  RSVP Flip-Flop. The Team will receive a score that is a summary of the individual scores and the judging will be based on creativity of the dangle, the difficulty of the dangle, and in one specific test, how well they can dangle the shoe off her toes withit barely hanging on. The maximun points for each contestant will be 100.

VICTORIA: For this event, each team captain picked two of its members to participate. Team Manolo has chosen Lisa and Missy, and Team Choo has picked Trisha and Nikki. As I explain the rules, Sarah Jessica and Drew will demonstrate. (SJ and Drew are seated in chairs with one leg crossed over the other.) The first 60 seconds, each contestant will engage in freestyle dangling in which creativity and difficulty will be subjectively judged. Then for the next minute, each contestant will have to sustain and hold a difficult dangle of their choice. to be successful, the shoe musy hang on the smallest portion of the foot as possible and not fall off or shift positions. Team Captains, please introduce your contestants and what they are wearing.

SUSAN: Representing Team Choo, we have Trisha wearing the slingback and Nikki wearing the flip flops.

KAREN: Representing Team Manolo, we have Lisa wearing the pumps and Missy wearing the slingbacks.

DEAN: Drew will call the freestyle segment and Sarah Jessica will call the difficult dangle. Okay, contestants, on your mark...get set...dangle!

Trisha's starting out with her right leg crossed and wiggling her foot out of the slingback strap. Nikki's crossing her feet at the ankle in front of her and slowly wiggling one foot to cause the flip flop to fall down. Lisa has folded the toes of her left foot downward and is dangling her pump and swinging it back and forth on the top of her foot. Missy has her feet tucked underneath and is slowly dangling one slingback strap off her heel. Trisha's slingback is now hanging on at a steep angle and she's rocking it up and down. Nikki has allowed one flip flop to come off. Now she'd tucked her feet underneath and is spinning her shoe in a circle on the floor. Lisa somehow rotated her shoe around and it's now dangling on her toes from the back of the heel. Missy's now brought her shoes out in front and crossed them into a dangle similar to Trisha's. (pause) Time's up. (All recover their shoes and return their legs to a normal position.)

DEAN: Now Sarah Jessica is going to narrate the difficult dangle.

SARAH J: Ready, you have one minute, go. Trisha's crossed her right leg and has the shoe n a steep dangle. Nikki's done the same with her flip flop as has Lisa with her pump and Missy with her slingback. They have 40 seconds to perfect the dangle and hold it. (pause) trisha has been able to turn her slingback to the side and has gripped the strap with her great toe. Nikki's trying to balance her flip flop strap on her great toe. Ooh it fell off. Nikki has to re-dangle. Lisa has her pump dangling off the nail of her pinky toe. how did she do that! (pause) Missy's doing much like before. She has her slingback hanging off her toes at a sharp angle. Okay, let's hold them...10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1. Dangling cease.

VICTORIA: That was a great event. After this commercial break, we'll have the scores.

(Commercial Break)

VICTORIA: Welcome back to the Reality Shoe, Dean. How did our teams do?

DEAN: It was a close game with the following results: For Team Choo, Trisha scored a 93 and Nikki an 89 for a team total of 182 points. For Team Manolo, Lisa scored a 98 and Missy a 92 for a team total of 190 points.

VICTORIA: Congratulations team Manolo, you've widened your lead to 28 points with an overall score of 780. Team Choo, you are still in striking distance with an overall score of 752. Our next event when we return.

(Commercial Break)

VICTORIA: For our next event on the Reality Shoe, I will be quizzing the guys on the identifying parts of the shoe. (The camera shows a game show stage inside Macy's with each 3 man teams on either side of Victoria behind a podium. Behind them is a board with 10 hooks numbered 1 thru 10.) The five ladies on each team will be wearing the same high heel pump style we offered in the dangling game. Each shoe will have one sticker relating to one of the ten parts of the shoe. The game will take 1 minute 40 seconds to play. Every 10 seconds I will call out a new part of the shoe and a matching number the guys will have to find the shoe from the girls in the game, take the shoe off of them and hang the shoe on the wall behind them on the appropriate number I called out. Since it may be confusing Victoria and I will demonstrate. (Victoria is seated.) If I called out Heel/3, I would have to look for who had a sticker on the heel and once I find it (Dean grabs Victoria's shoe) I would take off the shoe and run to the board and hang it on the number 3 hook. One more thing, the teams will get 10 points for each correct match.

VICTORIA: As you can see, you need to be fast and have a good memory to do well. One thing that will help is that 7 of the 10 stickers will be visible from the outside. Reege, can I have my shoe back, please? (Dean obliges.)

KINJA: For the benefit of the audience, the parts of the shoe being used today (show image of shoe and as each part is read the location is highlighted) include the:

Heel: raised part of shoe under heel of foot
Insole: inside part of shoe on which foot rests
Quarter: area behind sides and back of shoe
Round: inside of the heel and underneath it/under the arch on outside part
Sole: the bottom part of shoe which touches the ground
Upper: portion of shoe which covers top of foot
Vamp: forward part of shoe upper, attached to sole
Waist: narrow part of shoe under arch
Welt: narrow strip sewn between upper and sole
Heel Cap: The thin rubber membrane that protects the heel from wearing down
DEAN: Our two teams appear to be ready. The guys are in their positions in front of the board and the ladies are seated with stickered shoes. Sarah Jessica's going to read the part of the shoe and the matching number and add a new one after a 10 second pause. Start the clock.

SARAH J: Waist - 6.

VICTORIA: The guys are all in front of the row of girls on their team. The Manolo guys are taking all their girl's shoes off and the Choo guys are only taknig off a few - but they're looking on the top and bottom each shoe. Both teams have a shoe in hand and are running to the #6 hook.

SARAH J: Quarter/5

VICTORIA: I see the strategy. Manolo has two piles - shoes with stickers inside and ones with stickers outside. Choo has only removed shoes with stickers inside and it appears they have crossed the legs so that the stickers on the bottom of the shoe can be seen easily. Here come two guys with shoes for the #5 hook.

SARAH J: Vamp/8

VICTORIA: Jay from Manolo locates one of the shoes from the larger pile and runs to the #8 hook. NM grabs a shoe off of Trisha's foot and does the same.

SARAH J: Round/2

VICTORIA: Snowman from Choo grabs one of the shoes on the floor and palces iton the #2 hook. Droppedit from Manolo takes a shoe from the small pile and places it on the #2 hook. Then he pauses and swaps that show witht he one on the #5 hook.

SARAH J: Sole/1

VICTORIA: Mikeey and Nigel C both quickly select a shoe and place them on the #1 hook. We're halfway there.

SARAH J: Welt/9

VICTORIA: Both teams look puzzled. NM from Choo pauses then takes a shoe from Susan and places it on the #9 hook. No one from Manolo has made a move. They appear to be frozen in thought.

SARAH J: Heel Cap/7

VICTORIA:Nigel C grabs a shoe from Jennifer and hurriedly places it on the #7 hook. Jay takes a shoe from the large pile and does the same. Droppedit and Mikeey still seem to be looking for what could be the welt.

SARAH J: Insole/4

VICTORIA: Must be an easy one. Mikeey and Snowman both have a shoe ont he way to the #4 hook. Only 3 more to go!

SARAH J: Waist/10

VICTORIA: Choo seems confident. NM takes a shoe form the pile to the #10 hook and even takes a moment to review the board. Jay grabs a shoe and places it on, well, the #7 hook.

SARAH J: Upper/3

VICTORIA: Nigel C confidently takes both shoes and places one on each remaining hook - anticipating the next shoepart. Manolo looks bewieldered - maybe neither one looks like an upper to them.

SARAH J: Heel/6

VICTORIA: Snowman verifies that the shoe on the #6 hook is a heel seeing the sticker on the tip. Nigel C notices the sticker location and grabs the #6 and #7 shoes off the hooks and thinks for a moment. NM is encouragnig him to put them back on the hooks. Jay picks one of the remaining shoes and places it on the #6 hook also.

SARAH J: Alright time's up. VICTORIA: Choo, you got 8 shoes on hooks and Manolo, you got 9. Let's light up the board to see how you did. Manolo, you have 6 correct for 60 points, nice job. How about Choo? Looks like you have 8 correct for a total of 80 points.

DEAN: The correct sequence is Sole, Round, Upper, Insole, Quarter, Heel, Heel Cap, Vamp, Welt, Waist

VICTORIA: Good job Choo, all you missed were 'heel' and 'heel cap.'

NIGEL C: That's my fault, I had both in my hand at the same time and I couldn't remember the numbers and time ran out. I knew that the heel was actually the heel tip.

VICTORIA: Team Manolo, you had a bit more of a problem. You did not get 'upper' hung up at all and you mixed up 'welt,' 'vamp' and 'quarter.'

JAY: We just ran out of time, lost track of what was where.

VICTORIA: Thanks for a good game! Manolo, your 60 points raises your score to 840 and Choo, your 80 points raises your score to 832. only 8 points behind. Drew, what's next?

DREW: Our third event is a 100-yard dash and it is taking place on State Street outside Macy's. Police have blocked off the street between Washington and Randolph Streets for the event. Each team member is wearing a pair of  D'Orsey pumps.

DEAN: I see all 10 of our ladies lined up behind the line. Get ready, get set. Go!

VICTORIA: We have a good start. Ooh, Jennifer and Karen collided. Jennifer's shoe flew off to the side. She's limping the rest of the way. Nikki just left a shoe behind at the 50 yard mark. The rest are motoring toward the finish line. Lisa just tripped. Her shoe almost came off but some how, she recovered and got back up and running. The race is over. It appears that the top 5 finishers were Karen, Trisha, Susan, Nikki then Maria.

DEAN: With 3 of the top 5 finishers, Team Choo gets 60 points and Manolo gets 40 points. This brings our totals to 892 for Choo and 880 for Manolo who has now lost its lead and trails Choo by 12 points. We'll be back after these commercials.

(Commercial Break)

SARAH J: Our fourth event of today's Reality Shoe takes place back inside Macy's and it is called 'Up and Down the Stairwell'. Each team member will be wearing  Birkenstock clogs and thin white socks. One at a time 6 of the ladies - 3 from each team - wil be asked, starting from the 40th floor, to go up 1 flight and down 2 flights of stairs as fast as possible. Each flight has two sections with a landing in the middle. If they lose a shoe going upstairs, they will have to go down to where it lands, retrieve it and continue the path. if they lose on going downstairs, they will have to go down and retrieve it and go back to the place the shoe was lost and continue.

DEAN: Teams have been chosen. Team Manolo is sending Missy, Lisa and Caroline and Team Choo is sending Nikki, Shelley and Susan. Team Choo is going to start us off and Drew and Sarah J are going to call it. We have cameras set-up in several positions on the stairwell to capture the game as best as possible. (See changing views of the stairwell.)

DREW: Get ready, get set, go! And Missy's off and running, she's rounding the first landing. So far so good. (pause) One flight done and looking good. (pause) Missy's now hurrying down the steps. Missy's turning the first landing and her right clog flew off but slid harmlessly across to the back of the landing. Missy made a quick recovery. (Pause) She's starting the last flight down. There's a slight wobble, but she's fine. (Pause) Missy reaches the bottom and tags Lisa. (pause)

SARAH J: Lisa's rounding the first landing and amazingly it appears her toes are barely in the clogs but they seem to be hanging on. Lisa reached the top and she's coming down. She's turned her body inward to help keep her loose shoes on her feet. One flight down and one to go. (pause) Oh..half way down her left clog flew off. She's going to the bottom to retrieve it. She has to go back up to the landing and come back down again to finish her leg of the race. (pause) And she does and tags Caroline. (pause)

DREW: There goes Caroline. She looks like a pro in Birkenstocks. She's moving very fast with no problems. She's already at he top and coming down. Still doign well. (pause) One more flight (pause). She's completed a perfect run for her leg of the race.

SARAH J: (with all three girls) Well, you had a good race - a couple of stumbles and Carline, a perfect run. How dod you do it?

CAROLINE: Well, I wear socks and clogs quite often living where I do and I am used to keeping them on. I just walked like I usually do and it turned out well.

DEAN: That was an excellent run of 2 minutes and 12 seconds. Can Team Choo beat them. Lets see. Get ready, get set, go!

SARAH J: Nikki's off and running. She's doing pretty well. Oops, her right shoe fell off on the landing - quick recovery though and she's going on - a little more careful this time. One flight finished, she makes the turn. (pause) Nikki makes it to the top and turns around. She's going pretty fast now. Her clogs are really slapping with each step. (pause) One more flight to go. Uh-oh, her left shoe flew off to the landing. (pause) Nikki retrieves it and notices that the buckle has come undone. She just puts it back on and slowly goes back up to the next landing. (pause) A little slower, Nikki makes it down the first set of steps. One more to go. (pause) She finishes the last flight and tags Shelley.

DREW: Shelley seems to be trying the go slow and don't make a mistake route. Methodically she's taking the steps one at a time. So far it's goign well. (pause) Still going well - one flight done. (pause) Look at that rhythm! (pause) She's halfway there. She stops to push her toes farther into the shoes. (pause) She's at he first landing. (pause) Let's see if her strategy works. (pause) Okay another perfect run, but her time is close to the others. Susan gets tagged.

SARAH J: Susan's off and she's taking it fast. Her clogs are almost coming off with each step but they seem to be hanging on just enough. One flight done! (pause) This looks to be the fastest run of the day. is it enough. Susan's turned around. (pause) The down direction is even faster for Susan. She's flying down and swinging on the railing at each turn. (Pause) Susan's coming around the last landing and probably a victory for Choo. Wait! Her left clog flew off. Oh, it hit the railing and dropped over the side. Drew, can you follow her from here?

DREW: I'm on the way following one shod Susan down the steps. (pause) One flight and no sign of her shoe. We don't have any camera's below the 33rd floor.

DEAN: Susan, turn around at the bottom of the 33rd floor and come back with or without your shoe.

VICTORIA: Okay, Susan's back but missing a shoe. We'll have to send someone to look for it. And you and it was going so well.

SUSAN: I guess I just over did it at he end and it cost our team dearly.

VICTORIA: Your time was 2 minutes 43 seconds. Our scoring today is to give one point for each second of victory; and in this case Manolo gets 31 points. So Choo, you stay at 892 points and Team Manolo, you are up to 911 points - a 21 point lead as we end today's competition. (Camera shows all 6 contestants side by side with Susan's white sock glaring.)

DEAN: What a close game, sorry I have to miss it. Regis will be back next week.

VICTORIA: Bert found Susan's show I see. Where was it?

BERT: It was on the 13th floor landing.
