Mickie James AKA Alexis Laree
Mickie
James (AKA Alexis Laree) has been wrestling on the independent circuit for a
number of years now, and has finally been picked up by the WWE (10th October
2005). Mickie stands at 5'4" and weighs in at around 125 lbs, putting her
on a par with the likes of Trish Stratus.
Mickie started out at KYDA pro wrestling and managed several high profile wrestlers including Tommy Dreamer, whom she helped to win the heavyweight title. Mickie acted largely as a valet at this time, but wished to become a fully fledged wrestler. Unsurprisingly she attended a wrestling school, namely Dory Funk's and also attended several ECW dojos.
As time went by Mickie became more accomplished in the ring winning several championships including, the SCW Diva Championship (2001); the CSWF Women’s Championship (2003); and the PWF Pro Wrestling Universal Women’s Championship (2003).
At this stage Mickie began to get recognition from some of the bigger promotions. In late 2003 Mickie signed a developmental deal with the WWE, and then went on to have a dark match against Dawn Marie, which impressed many wrestling observers. This led to a contract with NWA Total Non-stop Action, where she had a feud with Trinity in 2003. Mickie became a regular feature on the promotion becoming a member of Raven's 'The Gathering' and had a long running feud with Jeff Jaret. After her time at NWA-TNA, the WWE became increasingly interested in Mickie and she got called up by OVW.
Things then became relatively quiet for Mickie, and it was not until mid-2005 that Mickie got her next break; she debuted on WWE TV in an unaired Sunday Night Heat match acting as CM Punk's manager. WWE's failure to make Mickie a regular superstar at this time gave many the impression that they had missed a valuable opportunity. But come 10th October 2005, and the appearance of a mysterious woman coming to Trish Stratus' aid against Victoria, it was clear that the WWE had realised the error of their ways and had made Mickie a WWE Diva.
