This award goes to such a deserving person who will be honored tonight. This is the 2nd time that this Special Award has been presented. Due to this individual" love of music, he begain working in radio with a career that spanned 26 years. He worked for WMES in Ashburn, WFAV in Cordele, and K98 in Tifton. Anyone can catch a glimpse of him "speeding" down the road or sidewalk, navigating with a joy stick, to do his shopping or just visiting with his many friends. When he needs even more speed, he heads fo his van, which he drives with hand controls. He cooks his own meals, plays guitar, repairs saddles, does leatherworks, is actively involved in church, and assists the Fire Ant Festival and Relay for Life. He's a Western's buff who has the "largest" collection of western books and movies. His newest hobby is his computer and E-mail. This individual is always upbeat; he doesn't consider himself disabled; he's always happy, wearing a smile................He's and indivdual who has truly accomplished a lot. He once said, "I learned early in life that if there's something you want to do, go ahead and do it. If it's something you absolutely can't do, don't worry about it." By now, you probably know who I am speaking about. He was born Jan.5, 1940, to Joe Lee & Mable Pitts. He has touched lifes in more ways than he'll ever realize. He certainly has touched mine and my family's lives. He is without a doubt the most secure person within himself, that I know. His courage and abiding faith has taken, and will continue, to take him to levels beyond his limitations. He his truly an inspiration to those of us who know him. On the behalf of Turner Co. and the Chamber of Commerce, I am proud to present at this time "The Citizen of thr Year Special Award" to Thurlus H. Pitts, Known to all of us as "Tabby". |
This article was copied from the Wiregrass Farmer......at the time of the Chamber of Commerce banquet Tabby was in Tift Regonal hospital where he had suffered a heart attack on Monday Jan 14,th . He was unable to attend the award ceremony so I accepted the award for him. It was a great pleasure to accept the award, Tabby is truly my best friend and I love him like a brother. I must also note that the article was written by Tabby's good friend Shirley Kelly. Shirley read the article at the banquet and presented the plaque. I have heard Tabby say many times that "although I don't have any brothers and sisters I am blessed with a lot of loving cousins and more friends that I can count". |
