On August 13th, 2001 I was diagnosed as having Diabetes. It was an expected yet surprising diagnoses. Expected because 6 family members have it. My Dad, 2 Grandma's, Grandpa, Aunt and a Cousin. Surprising because I never really thought I would get it.
My dr put me on a 1200 calorie a day diet so I can lose 50 pounds. As of August 13th, 2001 I weighed 166 pounds. Since 2001 I've pretty much stayed the same weight wise, I found out in 2004 that my cholestrol is high and was put on Lipitor, I joined Weight Watchers and have lost about 6 pounds, it's been a struggle but I'm losing weight.
Rick Mendosa's Diabetes Directory is a very extensive site with quite a few helpful links on it, most of the links below I believe I found because of this site.
Fitday- is a site that a friend happened to mention that she uses for her diet. You can type in the foods that you have eaten for the day and it tells you how many calories, carbs, protien etc that you have eaten for the day. It has helped me very much, I thought I was going over the 1200 calories every day but I wasn't by very much, usually I am about 50 calories away from 1200.
Mydiabetes to be honest I can't remember what this site is but I did like it.
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive & Kidney Diseases
Sugar Free Kitchen is a Shopping Site
Kraft has part of there website dedicated to diabetes
Diabetes Self-Management Magazine, this is a good magazine.
Diabetic Drug store has sugar free candy and other diabetic supplies. I believe I saw Splenda on the site.
a helpful site I found. It shows how many carbs and everything else you should have with each meal when you are on a 1200, 1500, 1800 up to 2500 calorie a day diet.
