TROOP EQUIPMENT
The troop owns a variety of camping equipment such as: tents, dining flies, cook kits, lanterns, cooking stoves etc… which is necessary to carry out the outdoor program of Scouting.  This equipment, as necessary, will be available to the troop, patrols and boys on campouts and activities.  It is expected that each boy will treat this troop gear in a manner following the scout oath and law.  See page 15 for a list of personal gear suggested for Scouts.

Equipment Repair or replacement necessary due to normal wear or tear will be made from troop funds.  Parents of Scouts will be held responsible for repair or replacement of troop equipment lost or damaged by their son(s) when that equipment is checked out for troop activities or individually.

The troop committee  chairperson must approve the loaning of troop equipment in advance.

Equipment when returned shall be received, checked-in and carefully examined before acceptance by the Troop Quartermaster.  Troop equipment will be inventoried and stored under the direction of the Equipment Chairperson of the Troop Committee.

UNIFORM

The Scout uniform helps to achieve the objectives of Scouting.  The uniform by itself cannot make a good Scout or a good troop, but its use has been proven to improve both the Scout and the troop because it is a visible symbol of Scouting and unity.   The Uniform puts all Scouts on the same level.  Each Scout is required to have and wear, within a reasonable amount of time after joining the troop, the following uniform items:

“Class A” Uniform
· Tan Scout shirt with appropriate insignia and patches (Southwest Michigan Council strip, red shoulder loops, and patrol emblem.)

· Troop number

· Badge with Scout’s Rank
· Troop 287 neckerchief (obtained from Troop)
· Neckerchief slide (can be purchased or made by Scout).
· Olive Scout pants or shorts. (decent blue jeans are allowed – see note on page 13)
· Boy Scout Socks..
· Boy Scout Hat (must have Scout symbol or be blank)
· Scout web or leather belt and buckle.
· Tennis shoes or hiking boots.  Socks are required.
·    Merit Badge Sash, worn at Court of Honor and other special events.

“Class B” Uniform (worn, as instructed by troop leadership, when activities may cause damage to the Class “A” uniform).
· Scout T-Shirt or Sweatshirt: Troop 287 T-Shirt/Sweatshirt or one with Scout emblem on it.
· Tennis shoes or hiking boots.  Socks are required.
